Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

Just finished 0 last night and it was one hell of a ride. Those Majima scenes made the man tears flow. Great game and I'm glad more people are fitting into the series.

doesn't he do some borderline gay stuff in the samurai spinoffs?

Noooo. Not at all....

When it comes to weapon durability, why do some weapons have pink numbers and some only have blue numbers? What do they mean exactly?

As much as I love Kiryu, I will admit that they make him too much of a paragon of virtue at times. "Which is exactly why Rikiya was SO WELL DONE in Yakuza 3. He felt like the "younger country bumpkin" version of Kiryu, only funnier.

AAHH..Stop it. I love Y3 so much, hoping, wishing the remastering is in the works as I type.

Blue is the durability, and pink is the ammunition.

Most melee weapons have limited durability so you can only use them a specific amount of times before having to repair.

Ranged weapons/some melee weapons have infinite durability but instead have limited ammunition so again, you can only use them a limited amount of times before having to repair them (repair is technically reloading but whatever).

i kinda wonder sometimes is kiryu actually gay?

His not - There is absolutely no indication in any of the Yakuza titles that he is.
He takes great liberty in light consensual sex with multiple hostesses whenever there is an opportunity. He also has tremendous constraint when he feels like a deeper relationship is at stake (because of his every present involvement and association with the Tojo Clan).

See Y1 through Y6.

Obligatory (not Y1 through Y6)

I do wonder if they will ever move from the staple story tropes of the series of
someone gets shot from off screen but is fine by 2 cutscenes later. And that no matter how complicated or ingenious your master plan is, fists will prevail at the end.

At some point the drama moments feel like nothing because it's so predictable lol.

while most of the time i would agree about this trope, did you play Yakuza 5?

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Speaking as someone who only played 4 and 5, I like Kiryu a lot more in this game than in those games. He comes off as having more personality and is generally a more likable person. I think part of this comes from the fact that he's regarded as a legend in the later games, but here he feels vulnerable and a bit out of his element, making him easier to sympathize and empathize with.

Working on Majima's Cabaret Club stuff. I have beaten 4 of the 5 clubs now I am going to take on the Moon Club. The whole Cabaret Mini game is a ton of fun.

Isn't he living with a girl in 5? Can't remember her name right now. Yakuza 1 spoilers:
His first love (Yumi) hurt him though, didn't it? Don't think he ever recovered from it really.
He is,
but Kiryu the white knight never did anything remotely sexual with her even though she was practically throwing herself at him lol.

That, and I think he just understands that with his ties to the Yakuza, there just isn't a situation where he can get romantically involved, and not have those ties come back to bite him.

Having a daughter figure in Haruka also probably makes the notion of finding another flame more challenging than it is.

Either way, he's approaching 50 in Yakuza 6 already. Not an impossible age to find another flame, but also already past the peak of his life.

There are 20 year-olds that would simply jump at the chance to get at this. Age really is just a number for Kiryu.

I felt like that at first but then switching back to majima after starting your businesses was like going from winning the lottery every 10 minutes to being on benefits.

Speaking of which I have the initial district maxed out, and by god the rest of the city is so fucking expensive, whats the next district to tackle?

Electronic King.

Anyway, for the business mini-game, don't be afraid to spend the money, but remember to keep enough money to invest in advisors leveling up your properties at every turn.

You'll recoup your investment very quickly.

Real estate seems like a hassle until you finish the cabaret stuff which nets you like 10+ billion.

Transfer that stuff back.

Speaking of which I fucking love the characters and justification in the lore for transferring money between the 2 characters.

It's so good.

Just started the real estate minigame, does it get any more complex? Seems really simplistic, just raise the meters and collect.

Yeah, sadly there's not that much depth to the real estate minigame aside from the boss encounters.

Majima's
Cabaret club management
on the otherhand is INCREDIBLY fun and surprisingly deep.

How much of my time is gonna be taken up by the real estate and night club businesses?

If you want to complete them you have to sink a fair amount of hours for each of them (maybe between 10-20 hours each?). The rewards for completing them are amazing though, worth the time

I like Kiryu but I want him fleshed out a lot more. Right now he's pretty one note; IMMA MAKE ORPHANAGE DAD PROUD AS A YAKUZA/I FIGHT FOR MY FRIENDS but delivered in a very well executed package. The way he lets shit shine through the cracks sometimes is really nice, like his annoyance or irritation when people thank him or make a big deal out of things or how he opens up with Nishikiyama ever so slightly and cracks wise sometimes or when he talks shit. But I don't get enough of it to give me a clear picture of who he is. The substories all sorta follow the same pattern, as well as the minigames which always make Kiryu seem like he can't be fucking bothered to have outside interests and everything seems to annoy him. He's just a little too stoic.

The dude is boss as fuck and legitimately funny in the substories, but it almost feels like two different characters.

The events of Yakuza 1 really do a number on him, and turn him into Kazama levels of badassery.

Difference in the future games is that unlike Kazama,
he wants to get out of the Yakuza life and stay out. It's always the circumstances or the legacy he's built for himself already that keeps coming back to haunt him.

But yeah, the general lack of depth to this character has been there since forever. It's why Yakuza 4 felt like such a breath of fresh air by bring 3 new protagonists into the mix, 1 of which cracked jokes like nobody's business. Hell, Akiyama literally had an ability where you could grab an enemy and then taunt, and he had separate taunting animations depending on the distance/position the enemy was.

yeah, all the characters felt better to me than kiryu, even tanimura

Do you guys think there is a possibility that Yakuza 3-5 gets ported to the PS4? I've played 3 and 4, but never had the chance to with 5 since I had sold my PS3 by that point.

Is just that, but the last district pays ALOT. The Majima work is much more fun but dosent pay as well.

Anyway for money i just farmed Mr. Shakedowns. I had trillions of yens without bothering with the jobs.

But completing the jobs sidestory will unlock more fighting moves and in the end it unlocks a new fighting style.

Already got the Platinum trophy for Yaluza 0, now waiting for Kiwami and then Yakuza 6 that looks great with the new engine.

Overall i enjoyed more the story of Yakuza 4 and the content of Yakuza 5, but Yakuza 0 was probably one of the most funny games with hilarious sidequests. And had the best collectibles. U cant beat collecting japanese pornstars pics and videos :D

There is always a possibility that these 3 will get remastered and ported to the PS4. Nothing's been announced as of yet though.
