Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

There is always a possibility that these 3 will get remastered and ported to the PS4. Nothing's been announced as of yet though.

That would be great, but I guess that will all depend on how well Kiwame sells. We know that 0 sold fairly well, so hopefully they do come over on the PS4. I'm tempted to just get a chaper PS3 soon and play through 5.

It actually doesn't matter as much how well Kiwami and 0 sell because this is a franchise that was made for and sold for the Japanese and Asian Market. The western market is often not even a factor for making these games, only after they've already been released.

To that end, I am expecting some sort of announcement this year for the games. Either a Yakuza 2 remake, or a port of all of them to the PS4.

That is very true on their target market for this series. I'd take Yakuza 2 remake any day over 3-5, I haven't played that since it released on PS2. From what they have done to Kiwame, a remake of Y2 would be awesome. Then they can re-release the rest on PS4. :)

I normally don't make jokes about games giving me sexual tension/feelings but a Yakuza 2 remake on the Dragon Engine....... well, that'd be the closest a game can possibly get for me.

Y'all hype up Yakuza 2 huh, hopefully Kiwami sells well enough that the rest of us that missed the train first time get a chance.

The only other game in the series that's comparable in terms of characters, story and overall setpieces and gameplay is actually Yakuza 0.

And Yakuza 0 will win for a lot of people simply because the gameplay is much more refined. A Yakuza 2 remake is gonna tip the scales in the right direction.

Yakuza 0 has better and more fleshed out characters in general. Yakuza 2's setpieces are absolutely amazing, and the main villain is one of the best in gaming ever. Like EVER.

This fucking third Rush training fight. I keep trying to run around him, but Kiryu ends up getting snagged on a crowd member and taking a hit. This training line is not fun.

Edit: got it, no running this time, just blocking. My complaint about the training still stands though.

His not - There is absolutely no indication in any of the Yakuza titles that he is.
He takes great liberty in light consensual sex with multiple hostesses whenever there is an opportunity. He also has tremendous constraint when he feels like a deeper relationship is at stake (because of his every present involvement and association with the Tojo Clan).

See Y1 through Y6.

Obligatory (not Y1 through Y6)

that's the second round of those gifs in this thread. can you provide some instances of him getting it on with the hostesses?

I've finished the game, fantastic stuff. From my understanding I can mop up side missions in premium mode but is there any item to mark them on the map or do I just need to keep wandering around like a tit to find them?

For Kiryu, finish the tax story substory which is unlocked after defeating the Electronics King to get the trouble finder. It marks the start locations of substories.

For Majima, I believe you have to finish the friendship gauge of the store right in front of his apartment to get that item, though I might not be remembering that right.
i don't understand, so it is possible that he is gay? if there's no direct indication of him being with a girl?
Since this seems to be a big issue for you, YAKUZA 2 SPOILERS
He makes out with a FEMALE love interest.
And in Yakuza 0, SUBSTORY SPOILERS
sleeps with about 6 different women.

He just chooses not to get romantically attached because of the baggage that he has i.e his Yakuza ties.

I just do the Bob and weave than back dash.

Terrible training though.

ah, thanks for clearing that up. after having been a fan of the series for so many years, it has been something that i wondered.

The character in Ishin and Kenzen is not Kiryu. The whole idea behind those games is that they can take existing character models and their archetypes and play them against expectations.

Also, Kiryu flat out tells someone in a 0 substory that he isn't gay.

Are there actual substories with the dates you can get through the Telephone Club? So far I've invited a girl for dancing and Karaoke but it's not clear if there are ever events that are supposed to come of it.

There are
7
separate substories that can occur from the phone club.

Once you've gotten a date with a girl and
manage to identify her
, then the substory ends. You can do stuff with her like play pool/darts or sing karaoke but it's not related to the completion in anyway nor is it a requirement for anything.

You can use this guide if you're having trouble. http://www.khhsubs.com/rggzero/chatline.html

nah, you only get substories with the telephone club
(7 in total, 3 false girls, 3 good girl, and 1 where she doesn't show up)
, going out with them after that don't do anything

What are the Horny dude advice about who's hot in town used for?

The sexy gravure videos. The women he's talking about have videos. So either you have to finish their substory or talk to them and finish their friendship gauge or in one particular scene in Kiryu's case, play a lot of pool and eventually beat her at it.

Ah, wasn't sure if there was anything beyond the initial meeting. Thanks.

It's literally each Yakuza title (including Dead Souls) post hostess game max affection cut-scene.

Much like with Zero's sexy calls scenario where Kaz appears in from of a hotel with a woman, in the other titles, hearts appear or a sound of great satisfaction.

Unfortunately, no elaborate cut scenes where hands connect with buttocks.

...Sadface.

Instead he does livechats with Japanese pornstars.

It is absolutely hilarious watching a 50 year old guy beat the shit out of 6 people and then go into a livechat and type OPPAI or "BOOBIES" while the woman is taking off her shirt.
Truly a relatable protagonist.

I managed to sell a friend on the series by telling him that this happens in Y6.

It is strange that for a Japanese game laser-focused on an adult audience and filled with mature storylines and plenty of violence, showing nudity or sexual content is somehow a bridge too far.

I never cared for completion in Yakuza as much as this game so Amon had way more health bars than I expected, at least especially because or health standards in compared to Y5, Majima legendary down, now for Amon Kiryu... fuu

Now... Just a thought: In addition to the standard release, how much more or less would a Z rating version sell in Japan?

Is it (the concept of both Yakuza titles) a bridge too far?
You mean an uncensored version? Not a lot. Japanese developers tend to avoid Z rating like a plague. Koei Tecmo fought very hard to get Hokuto Musou and Berserk Musou down to D rating.

Here is a post from Nirolak that puts things in context

Well, there's kind of three factors here:

1.) The teenage market there is more central to the industry than in the West.
2.) Once you're not putting in tons of blood and gore, which culturally is a better fit for Japan, it's a lot easier to keep your rating down, especially since innuendo doesn't seem to raise CERO ratings very quickly.
3.) A lot of the kinds of violence that would get you an M in the West would get you a CERO Z in Japan, which means many retailers won't carry it.

Bruv......come on now. Really?

Different strokes.

I genuinely can't explain why I enjoyed the Haruka section of Y5, given that I can't stand any of that Miku or idol stuff that's big in Japan. Probably helped that it came not long after Saejima's chapter dragged on for a little too long.
