Yakuza 5 demo - 11/27/2012 (JAP PSN)

Im still surprised that they have not announced the 1 & 2 HD for the west. For a business strategy you would think that they would have done it by now, to buy themselves time to figure out what to do about 5.

Unless they are bypassing the HD collection and going straight to 5.

If anything Id guess we would hear an announcement next year.

I'm disappointed that they haven't at very least announced one way or another whether it'll get a release or not. I'm currently completely addicted to the HD port of Yakuza 2 on the HD collection for me has been worth every penny on importing. The games look nice in HD (bar the pre rendered FMV's), the load times are basically instant (makes a huge change to the terrible PS2 load times especially for random fights) and the trophies, while just a small addition has kept me playing to try and get every last one.

I've got Yakuza 5 on its way to me via EMS and am holding out hoping it will arrive before Christmas so I can spend my entire break playing that through as well!

ummm...always kinda short of cash. What is the best way to earn money? Should I try pachinko & slot? I have only 2 man yen for it though.

HD collection owners must be spoiled by its short loadings ;p

It's a very Japan-centric title. Good luck with that.

I just think that it should sell better than it does in the west. It's one of the most content packed series on the market. Tons of mini-games, side-quests etc. along with some RPG elements, a great combat system and what's generally a well told story.

I some times wonder how much the lack of full voice has on it. I was watching the Giant Bomb Yakuza 4 QL and they were at the part where Lily asks Akiyama for a loan, and there was one part where it goes from text to voiced cutscene back to text. They pointed out how that was odd, so I could see how that could turn some off.

They just need to do the PSN-only route. The boxed product clearly isn't working for them (considering every year I've seen the game go for 10-20 bucks a few months after release).

Just a stupid idea even less people would buy it if not available as a retail disc.
People who would never play the games jump on at those low retail prices.

Its never going do huge numbers outside Japan because of the "Japanese content" of the game regardless of the quality.

Why does Sega care if some guy who will only buy their game for 10 dollars buys their game though?

If sales of the franchise have consistently gone down since Y3, then what incentive do they have to release a boxed product in a store?

I have no idea if One Piece Musou did well as a PSN only release in NA, but I assume One Piece Musou 2 has more of a chance of coming to the US than any future Yakuza games anyway. Given Sega's utter silence, I'm just assuming that 5 is never coming and that my only hope is that The Patrick or someone else writes a guide for it.

Yakuza 4 was announced for a western release three months after it was available in Japan. So their silence is nothing new for the series.

They were also pimping sales numbers back then, so there was some optimism. I don't think they've said anything after Dead Souls came out.
Even the time between Y4 and DS had some news from Sega of America, IIRC.

I've always found traditional gambling games are the best way to make money quickly if you have access to them. Roultette especially, just save before trying, bet as much money as possible rinse and repeat. Buy gold/platinum plates from the prize desk in the casino and then trade them in for lots of cash in the pawn shop. I've done this tactic since yakuza 2 and it's always worked really well for me.

That's been mostly remedied in 5, its mostly full voice, although theres still some bits like that. But it's not just that, its actual properly acted out too in terms of animations and gestures. Oh I forgot to mention, but as the trailers have shown, the hostesses are full on voice now. It's a very personalized experience and it does feel like you're chatting it up with the hostesses. There's a lot of neat things about 5, but I can't gather my thoughts on it right now. On Saejima's chapter now. . . That said, it's definitely a different feel this time around. A lot more... dramatic? I have to say I really enjoyed Kiryuu's chapter though, it almost felt like he had a normal life for once. Unlike the Asagao experience. . . lol maybe I'm saying Mayumi > kids. XD

With previous titles, I agree. I think if they do localise Y5, then I think it's safe to say the idol thing will put a lot of people off. Unless they just don't advertise it on the box, which is one option, I guess.

Some good news is the level of the
Ueyama shop will carry over from one character to the next. So for example in Kiryus story since most likely you will have a surplus of cash its suggested to max out the shop then. Just confirmed this since am using Saejima now.

Am still in
Saejimas
story currently.

The hunting part is actually pretty long if you want to do all of the sub quests and go through the story for it in the small hunting village which you wind up in. The system itself is pretty simple and the shooting mechanics are not too bad, just that dont expect to drop everything in your sight with the shotgun with how slow aiming is, follow up shots are and how long it takes to reload. Though overall its fairly well done and a good way to make a lot of extra cash. Am almost done with the whole hunting bit though. So far in the game Ive spent 55 hours and am still only on the 2nd character chapter which is Saijimas story.

Really enjoying the game and must say its quite well done for the most part.

Yakuza continues to be Sega's most stable franchises in Japan. If only they could figure out how to get people in the west to give it a shot.

I bought Yakuza 3 because I heard good things about it, when it arrived in the mail tough, it layed in the backlog for years. I forgot all about it until I had finnished Sleeping Dogs, and some person on a forum asked how it stacked up to Yakuza.

So I popped it in and played it for the first time a few months ago, I were sold. It were fantastic. I think I played 50 hours in the span of 3 days... And the little time I didn't spend sleeping the first day, I spent going online and buy Yakuza 4, wich were just as good. :)

If I were Sega-boss, I'd try to get Yakuza 3 in the year-free titles in PS+, just so it got in alot of people's hand.
If more people would just try that, I think the majority of those who did would also buy Yakuza 4, asap. And Yakuza 5 when/if that comes to the west. :)

Yakuza 5 videos are being pulled, Sega blocked my recording of the demo worldwide.

Sega being a bunch of retards again? Wtf yeah thats really going to help them promote their game for free.

Seriously its like they had some new legal adviser dipshit with his fresh paper in hand thinking hes gonna save the company or something with the levels of stupid thats been going on recently.

What's hilarious was that 4gamer video for blocked for a bit. But I'm guessing they got the proper permissions from Sega since it's back up

Finally in Sapporo, its so super neat being in a snowy city. *_* It's all I can say for now since I'm so tired, but I definitely spent a lot of time hunting in the earlier chapters. His another drama was a real blast.

I'm in the Saejima's part too. I really enjoy every bit of the another drama but it successfully destroy the flow of the main story. The series always have this problem with the well made(?) quirky and heartwarming sub stories that I want to play along the main story. But they are less long than the another drama and don't take that much time to complete.
Even I'm complaining, I don't have a good idea to solve this problem though :p
A good thing is the main story is not compelling. It haven't got me like "I do want to see what's next but I do want to play the side stuff now, what should I do?".

I picked the game up when I was in Hong Kong a few days ago for about 450HKD (roughly 60 or so AUD).

Looked at some stores in Osaka today and it's like 8000 yen (over 100AUD). Haven't opened it but it came with some sort of artbook and soundtrack CD.

**conversions are "in my head" guestimates

Good job Sega, after Shining Force and this, now you've shown everybody that you're a bunch of unpredictable cunts and have driven everyone away from promoting your content.

OMG the questions you can ask the hostesses! o-o Like if she's into S/M or straight up ask for her 3 sizes. This is so fucking hilarious.

Oddly, those are pretty common questions in Japan when you reach a basic level of intimacy with someone.

I really hit a wall on the Saejima section. I've never enjoyed his fighting, but good god is the start of his story boring.

I haven't even reached the city yet, except in those two INSUFFERABLE flashback/storytime bits (but at least now it's clear what's meant by 現実世界でアフターデート in that one trophy description). It feels like I've spent hours on this episode already. I actually haven't even touched the game the past 4 nights. I was getting really sick of the TV Hakata-ben, ばってん I'd give anything to go back and race some Devil Killers to the Daytona theme at this point.

Yeah you don't get to actual Sapporo until
chapter 4
.

Also the dating here rivals most dating Sims.. You actually just walk around the city and chat for a bit
