I think he became too annoying for the mods or something and then permedlan, like tdg. Quite sad really although both were irritating but both were large parts of the college threads and had funny moments

We do. I hate seeing someone banned and then spending the next five minutes trying to figure out why they were banned based on their post history.

I like the way SomethingAwful does it. When you see someone banned or probated, you can click on their avatar and it'll link to their ban history, complete with reasons for each of them. Each of the bans links to the post they got banned for, which will have a big (USER WAS BANNED/PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST) on it. It's basically a comprehensive way to let you not follow other users' examples.

I saw big_z got banned for saying he wished some game went to XBLA instead of Wii. Is that a permaban? He was one of the active members in the nike+ thread. Please say no.

Yeah, sometimes I've wondered about this exact same thing. You have no way of knowing it either, unless you have contact with that person outside of GAF. It's kind of weird finding out posters you knew are banned when visiting any thread...especially old threads where it's just banned, banned, banned, banned.

Opa was the asian guy who had an epic meltdown when sega went 3rd party. Was fun reading his stuff. I liked the smaller gaf, its kinda big and bloated the magic is gone, sorta like scott hall.

It's alright. I came into the game late. But I see plenty of quality posters come and go. I am making a 2010 resolution to be a better quality poster in the OT. :D

The best ones are the locked ones that no one can subscribe to, and posters who were around back then have to link for anyone to even view. The number of bans in those threads is pretty hilarious... especially if the ban happened over two years ago.

The forums are expensive to run and are supported by the ads, so if you use Ad Blocker... keep it to yourself, is the basic message. fistful started ranting (in multiple posts) that it wasn't his responsibility to keep NeoGAF afloat by viewing ads and that he proudly used Ad Block to avoid them, and so he was banned.

It was a bit of an extreme situation, not someone slipping up and accidentally admitting to using Ad Block in a single post.

Sometimes the old threads are a hoot to read through and see who has been banned as well as others who haven't posted in a long time. Stumbling upon a poster that your memory has slightly forgotten about and then it's a small shock to find out that they no longer post here.

Although it sounds incredibly ridiculous, I feel special having lived through the various landmines and such.

My favorite of the last batch of juniors was Plywood, that cool motherfucker.

And I fucking miss crushed, the guy was a gaf staple. Same thing goes for fistful, I miss that pedo motherfucker :_(

crushed showed up in late 07 IIRC, was basically a 4chan cross-poster with enough tact to stick around for a few months, but not enough to stay for awhile.

had a funny avatar of a guy mashing a keyboard with a big smile on his face.

I can see why the mods banned him (he could be fucking annoying), but that guy was funny as hell. Made the epic Smash Bros thread even better. :D

//Edit: ah yes, I remember now... I think Crushed was banned as usual, but not perma. Then he started communicating through his avatar (while banned) and I think that was the final drop for the mods.

I think he was also banned just before the Smash Bros thread was closed. Everyone was waiting for his return, and minutes before sp0rsk closed the thread he was unbanned and posted a ginormous awesome-smiley.

FlameofCallandor was mentioned, I think he was banned cause his avatar was too annoying but he chose to keep it anyways. Seriously.
