You say that as though every PC user here pirates games, and you're the only one paying for them. It makes you seem like you think you're morally superior to the rest of us, when in reality, you're just advocating what the rest of us consider normal behavior. Ultimately, it makes you look like a self-important douche.

In short: Hey, fuck you buddy.

I am rather surprised the thread got this long already. I didn't know the first game had such a following on GAF.
Haven't seen the official thread? Really never went into it myself but the title piqued my interest in itself. GAF is the reason I bought the game. Really liked the first chapter and need to get back in it but I liked it and will get this.

I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of people on here did pirate it. Way less than the average outside of GAF though. It's too bad.

Well, this thread clearly needs this type of bullshit.

Wow the engine looks nuts, just put some fucking vsync in there for gods sake. That ruined an otherwise great game for an ATI user like myself. I like the new model, and the premise sounds awesome!
On a side note: Are any of the novels in english at all? Or are they in peasant language? (not english)

Bring on the porn cards 2.0!

I'm interested in playing the first game after watching this :D What kind of DRM does this use?

Enhanced Edition is $17.99 on amazon (as mentioned) can you patch it to get the directors cut stuff?

Some quick responses
Here are some wishes:

- Make the graphical options comprehensive and individually toggable. Metro 2033 for some bizarre reasons doesn't allow this, which is very annoying.

- Allow us PC users to turn the graphics up so high the GPU screams for mercy. If you are worried about the "Crysis effect" - crybabies bitching they can't max the game on their new rigs - just make a simple to tweak config/.ini file and leak how to enable the rig-killing effects.

- You seem to favor a naturalistic/"realistic" graphical style. Good. Please, don't overdo the bloom, SSAO, DoF and blur effects. And no piss-yellow/shit-brown next-gen filters, please. Or make them optional at least.

I just hope they make the combat and skill progression more compelling. I felt both were pretty weak in The Witcher. The combat was boring for the lack of skill and thought it took. I'm not sure how far I got in it, but I never really got into the game. I felt like I was running errands most of the time. I think I'm on my first visit to the swamps.

Add me to the group that never made it past the first chapter. And I really disliked the combat system's timed click thing.

Maybe the sequel will be better out of the gate.

O yes, pretty much the above. I managed to make it to the first town but then they start these mmorpg-style fetch quests and I kinda lost interest.

Think I've started the game 4 or 5 times allready... Anyway, re-installed it last night and now I'm so gonna finish it! :lol

Right, due to circumstances I bought the frikkin game THREE times so fuck that. Why does everyone always think PC-gamers are pirates, certainly on an "adult" board like this.

3 times digital distro; first e-tailer download speed was too slow and I had to have it NOW, so I bought it again at another store and the third time I thought you had to buy the Enhanced Edition separately.

Yeah I FAILED

!

First book (which is the best in the Withcher saga) is available in English already. English translation of the second is is planned for 2011, could be synchronized with Witcher 2 release actually.

But the short novels collection dubbed "Last Wish" is one of the best if not THE best fantasy book i ever read, and its also translated, so go and buy it asap.

I haven't read it in English, so I cant comment on the quality of the translation though, but if it at least half as good as the original/russian translation it will not be possible to put the book away until you finish.

The english versions are quite excellent and well worth a read - I have no idea if the translation itself is any good, but taken for what they are both Last Wish and Blood of Elves (which I read in that order, fwiw) are fantastic.

And now I'm annoyed that I haven't read the short story that shipped with the EE - that shall be remedied in the next hour :)

I also read the books in original Polish language. The great thing about the Witcher is that it takes so much from Slav history, customs, general atmosphere. In Western history/fantasy you got Knights/Castles/Kings, but because Eastern Europe was behind Western Europe in Middle-Ages we had a lot in History class about the classes in society, social and economic life in Poland, etc.

Witcher is just like that - it rains, people swear, people are uneducated, everywhere you look you thing "omfg, this is such a dump". It feels a lot more "real" than other wRPGs which go "high&mighty" route. Another thing is Racism - there is a lot of that in the Witcher, which makes it what? 10 years before Dragon Age came out?

There is ofc Geralt being the horny dog that he is...:lol

V-sync works fine with D3DOverrider running. I can test it again later if you'd like, but I don't recall a problem.

Same here, and the disc version is the original european collector's edition which I got even before I had a worthy PC just based on GAF hype and... well, the box is beautiful. :D

I wonder if this version is gonna integrate steamworks, cool if it does but if it doesn't and there's a nice CE... double purchase again. :lol

Yes, the Enhanced Edition can be patched to the Director's Cut. Hell, I have the original release, and I was able to get all the new content for free. One of the patches removed the DRM, as well.

In short, CD Projekt kicks ass. Enjoy the game! :D

Install the game and start the launcher, there's an "update game" link.

CD projekt's Lead Character Artist comment on Geralt model variations:

It’s understandable that no one likes things they got attached to being changed - that’s a fact, that’s why the new face woke up so many emotions. Let me give you a short clarification though Smiley

In case of TW1 Geralt’s face was done, as I remember, 3 times totally from the scrap. It changed a bit every time, which you can see on various promotional materials. Since we started working on TW2, the face has changed another 2 times (the face from the first leaked material, believe it or not, was totally different than the one in TW1). We’re just constantly looking for and complaining.

Since the times of TW1 we got experienced and got more skills, we can make more realistic faces which have proper proportion and human features. We also have incredible concept artists whose creations are way better than the ones from TW1. That’s why we decided to redesign all main characters, and once again design their faces, just barely based on the originals (keeping only the most important features - Dandelion’s little beard, Zoltan’s haircut, etc)

Once we had the full set of main characters put together side by side, Geralt started to look strange... his disproportionate face stood out making the impression of badly made model. It pushed us to iterate Geralt one last time, thanks to which the White Wolf got his human proportion, which bizarrely provoked many of your comments.

For you, the old Geralt had a face with intentionally highlighted ‘wolfish’ features, for us he was simply a badly made model.

Nevertheless, you rightly point out in your comments that Geralt looks too young, has too shallow scars, too few of them and too flat texture - WE’LL FIX THAT! The texture of the face definitely needs to be fixed and will definitely make Geralt look differently. We’ll probably mess with the eyes as well. However, the proportion of the face, its structure will probably stay the same - we won’t come back to the old proportion both for technical reasons (ready facial expression system is done based on this head) as well as for time limitations (each iteration of Geralt’s head takes a lot of time, which is always too short). Moreover, we’re simply happy with the face which you could see on the main page of GameTrailers:

geralt.jpg

In your comments you focus mainly on the last shot from the film, in which Geralt’s face is in strange grimace. Let me point out that those shots were not prepared especially for the film, they are part of the game, they were recorded and used in the film which you will have the chance to check on Thursday.

Regarding the rest of the model:

Geralt’s hair in the film and current gameplay has no physics applied (the hair is still), has no shader (which will diametrically change the look) and is taken from the first leaked material (June 2009) - we plan to make it from scratch. Additionally, there might be a possibility of changing the haircut by the player, I’m totally in favour of that.

On the film Geralt is wearing a heavy armour - that’s why he’s looking powerful and heavy, in TW2 the character will have much more equipment elements and armours. There will be light armours - just like the first three in TW1 - and heavy ones like the one from the film. Scabbards are not fully done yet, that’s why they split while sword is being taken out - that will be fixed. We also have a sabre with curved scabbard, already done. Maybe it will be presented on Thursday as it looks super cool.

Well, it took me a while but I hope I dispelled a few of your worries. I’m sorry I won’t answer your specific questions but you created loads of them.

Keep tight and thanks for your support!
