The best thread was the one about how Sony need to fix the Vita control problems now. lols.

Gaming side has been truly amazing today. In an Abbott kind of way. Pictures of 3DS's in toilets, calls for StuBurns' dick, people trading in/selling 3DS. Damn.

If that was ever going to happen it should have before today.

Edit: Jeepers, this thread is moving crazyfast. Over 4pages in under 24 hours.

Edit2: At this rate we'll need a new thread by mid November.

Nope. They will get even more fired up now that they have had a chance to think up some good zingers overnight and google some "evidence" for why they are right. Expect more stupid threads tomorrow. I am sure the Mods are already dreading it.

Can you imagine if Amir0x was still a mod after this 3DS fiasco? He would be banning people for not throwing their 3DS's in the can.

Best threads are community threads. Gaming is just full or random assholes who I hate instantly after reading one of their shit filled posts. Off Topic is full of depressing stuff with people talking about how they want to kill themselves once a month; I remember the OT being a lot funnier a couple of years ago.

AusGAF ftw and other community threads ftw.

I've always liked Gaming, since argument has always been the form of communication I've felt most comfortable with. I've hardly played any games lately though, so I haven't read it in a while.

Without hyperbole though, I think most would agree that Nintendo have dropped the ball with the 3DS (so far). A lack of quality games during the launch period, poor online implementation and now the add-on fiasco, these are certainly some significant missteps from the perceived dominant player.

The gaming section on GAF is becoming unbearable. So much fanboyism and system warz creeping in.
I wouldn't say it is that bad, usually the trolls get pushed out quickly enough when the fire isn't burning so bright, this whole 3DS thing has stoked their coals but the threads in Gaming have been better these last few weeks than the rest of the year from what I have seen. Whenever rumours get spread the discussion is slowed down by the trolls but thankfully most of the information has been correct since e3. Even the 01net stuff was taken with a massive grain of salt by most people, well, until today of course.
There is a bunch of regular posters who usually jump into the first page of almost every new item to make sure there is some proper, intelligent discussion going on (usually even including an AusGAFfer or two despite our time difference) with the trolls left to drag out the last few pages. I've noticed the trolls tend to stick around Nintendo threads more than the other consoles since they think they can lay the boot in a bit more at the moment.

I don't know why I bother reading this thread anymore.

Waste 30 mins scrolling through 4 pages of raging about politics that I should maybe care about for some reason, but don't.

They really need to beat the 3rd parties into submission, it is all well and good to dump the usual Mario et al games on your new console but they could really wipe the floor if they had some killer 3rd party titles. Imagine if they poached a few of the big developers like Bioware or Irrational? It would take some very in-depth negotiating with one of the big publishers like EA or Take Two but making some concessions in order to have the next big franchise on their platform would be more than worth the cost. Eliminate the need to buy a competitors console through having all (non-first party of course) the big titles on the WiiU and 3DS.
Exclusive Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest is a good start for Japan but they need to target each region and lock them down. It would be an insane proposition but imagine locking the FIFA franchise for 2013 to Nintendo only? Would be delicious.

And that's even with Gaborn being told to cut down on the messed up news stories he kept making threads for...

Thank god they put in some time researching shit.
What does Second Life have to do with Japan? [stereotype]Besides the people liking the same genres of porn?[/stereotype]

The fanboyism is getting worse, but a lot of it is classic GAF. Crazy overreactions, love of games the rest of gaming kind couldn't give two shits about, obsessing about Dark Souls and Persona.

But yeah, AusGAF is by far the best GAF

I don't think this is true at all. The fanboyism always ramps up when there are new competing systems around. When the Wii, 360, and PS3 were all fresh, things were pretty crazy. Then they went into a lull which brought out the PC zealots. Now it's Vita vs 3DS. It's prior to be being on GAF, but I've read a lot of the old PSP vs DS threads when they first came out and there was crazy stuff then too.

System war. System war never changes.

so i was reading a report the other day, a football report that says next season for park football (local amatuer clubs) councils have to double the rental fees for the grounds to be able to maintain them, which in turn will make football cost about twice as much to join up and play, even for kids

can we please stop making fucking policies, and decisions that is just increasing the fucking probability that kids are going to have an obesity problem. It's ridiculous. You have the government spending so much money trying to get kids thin and eating well, and you have dickhead fucking councils doing shit like this, but still giving themselves ridiculous payrises and paying stupid money for stupid things.

Every week it seems i read something that discourages kids from playing sport. Schools banning sports @ lunch because they are worried about public liability insurance. Councils banning sports in parks because of the same thing except organised sport

In the 1980s when i grew up WE DIDNT HAVE THIS SHIT AND WE DIDNT HAVE A FUCKING PROBLEM.

guy on the drum tonight (ABC24)

'Australians are addicted to middle class welfare'

'due to economic prosperity we have bigger houses, more cars, eating out more and buying more alcohol and they think this should go on forever and its not going to'

'welfare in australia is now about greed and not need and the politics of today is not helping'

'The only reason Australians think they are struggling is the politicians keep telling them they are'

QUOTED FOR TRUTH, MAKE THIS MAN PM

apparently ABS released a report today that shit isnt going up anywhere near as much as abbott thinks it is. And the only reason people think they are struggling is because the politicians keep telling them they are.

i don't like house prices, but other than that im not like carbon tax will make things 1000x more expensive

house prices, are still ridiculously overpriced every economist agrees and they are not in line with world values.

First home buyers in this day and age is not middle class welfare. It's help people get somewhere to live because housing has become out of control and the government can't do anything about it. The reduction and exemption of stamp duty (a bullshit tax setup by a state government to just cash in on the fact people want to move houses every so often) is not middle class welfare either

I've said it once and i will say it a million times. Australia does not need state governments. They are the biggest drain on our resources ever, they tax the shit out of everyone. I mean what kind of institution taxes a business for being successful? Payroll tax is the biggest load of shit i have ever heard of. Punishing businesses for paying employees wages?

Get rid of state governments and you will solve many of this countries financial and tax problems. State governments are at war with the Federal Government in many aspects (look at Fed gvt vs nsw on mining royalties for just one example, WA for the other) and you realise why having so many levels is ridiculous.

i mean what. That is the biggest deterrent ever for companies to hire people.

FHB should be means tested though. The fact its not is a disgrace.

True, but you tend to bitch about the cost of living more generally than that.

I've read a few articles lately saying that you know things are going ok when the cost of living is made into a political issue. People are worried about worse things when things are going bad, like whether they will have a job tomorrow or not. Seems like a reasonable point.

You don't have to buy a house to have somewhere to live.

Yup, I can support a family on less than 40 grand a year with a little bit of Parenting Payment for my partner to cover the stupid loans she made before the little guy came along. Life doesn't have to be expensive and decadent. She tried making up some kind of casserole from my hometown cookbook that had like, curry powder, mince meat, carrot, zucchini and other random stuff. Tasted like arse so I grabbed one of the Aldi $3 pizzas out of the freezer and 20 minutes later dinner was done. A lot of necessities are a lot cheaper now than they used to be, the real painful one is rent and utilities because there just isn't any competition to keep prices down. Rent goes up because everyone wants to charge more and people are living longer so they need somewhere to stay. Bring down gas and power prices and I would be laughing.

Spot on. A vested financial or emotional interest flames the fuel of war.

FHB is middle class welfare. It doesn't make houses more affordable. It lifts the price of entry by the same amount, only benefiting sellers who get an extra $10k or so. That's exactly middle class welfare.

Fred. Seriously. It is beyond reasonable to expect someone to

1) pay off someones mortgage forever more

2) not build assets via the 'great australian dream'

Housing is a necessity, and every economist agrees it is a necessity. Sure if you cant afford an ipad, whatever but if you can't a house there is a real problem. Rental shortages, arsehole agents and fuckwit owners who wont fix things for owners, is also a major problem.

also, at home with julia LOOKS AWESOME. 8pm tonight abc1. has a fake alan jones.
