Nothing sets the tone for a great Rap record than a great introduction track my top 3 personal favourites

1. Stillmatic Intro- Stillmatic by Nas: This introduction is a fucking masterpiece the best there is to any record period holy shit the Stacy Lattisaw sample the straight up fire lyrics "Blood of a slave heart of a king" it's fucking eternal the Afrocentric Asian is making a comeback in on this record and he wants the world to know he's still half man half amazing.

2. The Illest Villains-Madvillainy by Madvillain: A whimsical psychedelic trip of an intro no vocals just Madlib showcasing his bizzare textured sample books of 1950's b-movie horrror films, 60's cartoon clips, jazz, funk you name it pretty much the twilight zone of hip hop intros yet utterly mesmerising and sets the tone for one of the most endlessly creative rap albums ever.

3. Da Introduction-E. 1999 Eternal by Bone Thugs N Harmony: Holy shit the build up is eerie atmospheric and unbelievably unsettling before transitioning to bone thugs signature melodic rapping it creeps up on you from out of nowhere. Fucking chilling, the production even to this day 22 years later is out of this world, hat's off to DJ U-Neek.

So Gaf what are your favourite Rap album introductions ?

TheBowen

Sat alone in a boggy marsh
Intros that are just intros, or do you mean songs that are first ton the album? Or Both?

Case G Funk Intro On Doggystyle is still one of my favourites, and an underated pick that i can think of is 'No Introduction' Of the nas album 'Life Is Good'

Soapbox Killer

Grand Nagus
The intro for Only Built for Cuban Lynx is the greatest of all!

That John Woo sample, dudes using an entirely new slang structure was world changing for thine young hip-hop ears.

Striving for Perfection.

Midnight Marauders. Perfect lead into Steve Biko (Stir it Up).

The skits are short and concise as well.

Midnight Marauders is pretty much my answer for anything Hip Hop.

I miss the Trini-Gladiator.

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

GHOSTFACE, CATCH THE BLAST OF A HYPE VERSE, MY GLOCK BURST, LEAVE IN A HERSE, I DID WORSE, I COME ROUGH, TOUGH, LIKE AN ELEPHANT TUSK, YA HEAD RUSH, FLY LIKE EGYPTION MUSK

AW SHIT ...and so on about how the Wu-Tang spark wicks and master tricks like Nixon.

Seriously, you can't beat the Wu-Tang. It's almost as if they warned people that the Wu-Tang Clan is not something you should fuck with.

I was listening to some old Gucci tapes today and came across this intro to the Burrprint: The Movie 3D. It's absolutely hilarious.

I woke up this morning, I looked in the mirror. I said "Mirror, mirror, MIRROR! Who's the coldest nigga in Atlanta?" The mirror said "Do not ask me any more stupid questions! IT'S GUCCI! BURRR! BURR!! BURRR!!!"

Jay Z has consistently incredible intros:
-The Dynasty Intro (which probably inspired the Stillmatic intro)
-Can't Knock The Hustle
-A Million and One Questions/Rhyme No More
-Bleeks Vol.2 Intro
-Hova Intro
-The Rulers Back
-December 4th
-The Prelude
-No Church in The Wild

And What We Talking Bout and Kill Jay Z are decent (I prefer the former).
The only bad intros he has are Holy Grail and the intro to Vol.2.

I gotta quote The Dynasty Intro lyrics:

"The theme song to The Sopranos
Plays in the key of life on my mental piano
Got a strange way of seeing life like
I'm Stevie Wonder with beads under the doo-rag
Intuition is there even when my vision's impaired, yeah
Knowing I can go, just switching a spare
On the highway of life, nigga it's sharp in my sight
Oh! Keen senses ever since I was a teen on the benches
Every time somebody like Ennis was mentioned
I would turn green, me, being in the trenches
Him, living adventureous, not worrying about expenditures
I'm braving temperatures below zero, no hero
No father figure, you gotta pardon a nigga
But I'm starving, my niggas, and the weight loss in my figure
Is starting to darken my heart, 'bout to get to my liver
Watch it my niggas, I'm trying to be calm but I'm gon' get richer
Through any means, with that thing that Malcolm palmed in the picture
Never read the Qur'an or Islamic scriptures
Only psalms I read was on the arms of my niggas
Tattooed so I carry on like I'm non-religious
Clap whoever stand between Shawn and figures
Niggas say it's the dawn, but I'm superstitious
Shit is as dark as it's been, nothing has gone as you predicted
I move with biscuits, stop the heart of niggas acting too suspicious
This is food for thought -- you do the dishes"

Edit:
Blitzed
Jay Z The Dynasty intro.

They thought it was cool to burn crosses on your front lawn as they hung you from trees in your backyard.
They thought it was cool to leave you thirsty and stranded, Katrina.
He thought it was cool to carry a gun in his classroom and open fire, Virginia Tech, Columbine, stop the violence.
They thought it was cool to tear down the projects and put up million dollar condos, gentrification.
They think it's cool to stand on the block hiding product in their socks to make quick dime bag dollars.
They think it's cool to ride down on you in blue and white unmarked cars busting you upside your head.

Freeze.
Cause the problem is we think it's cool too.
Check your ingredients before you overdose on The Cool.

I love the opening for Food and Liquor.

God, this album and the Cool are soooooo good.

Ayesha Jaco - Lupe's Sister

Food and liquor stores rest on every corner
From 45th and State to the last standing Henry Horner
J&J's, Harold's Chicken, good finger lickin'
While they sin, gin, sin sin at Rothschild's and Kenwood Liquors
The winos crooked stagger meets the high stride of the youth
Searchin' for the truth
They rebel and raise hell across alleyways and in classroom settings
They get, high off that trunk bass and 20/20 rims
They rock braids, Air Force Ones, and Timbs
They drink Hennessy, Hypnotiq, and 40's
They call they women hoes, bust downs, and shorties
They keep funeral homes in business and gunshot wards of hospitals full
Prisons packed, bubblin' over in brown sugar
They keep empty, Westside lots crowded, hype's powdered
The well is running dry
The days of Malcolm and Martin have ended
Our hope has descended and off to the side
Waiting for the reinstallment of the revolution
Because we are dying at the cost of our own pollution
But God has another solution, that has evolved from the hood
I present one who turns, the Fiasco to good...

No lies detected.
