Double Fine is likely developing a game called Brutal Legend. The owner of brutallegend.com is the now-defunct Circus Freak Studios and Caroline Esmurdoc, founder and CEO of Circus Freak, is now Executive Producer and COO at Double Fine.

Source

3) Red Fly Studio ... is developing Sierra Entertainment's new Ghostbusters game for Wii and PS2 for [fall 2008].

Source

3) The Far Cry franchise is coming to the PS3 courtesy of Ubisoft Montreal.

Source

6) NBA Ballers 3 (not the final title) will be slam dunking on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in April.

Source

10) After great success Athens 2004, Eurocom is developing sequel 2008 Beijing Olympics for Sega.

Source

3) Also coming next fall is the Wii version of Spore from EA Montreal, which be the first home console version of the title to see release. The Wii version feature an online mode for content sharing akin to that found in the original version and the possibility of online gameplay for the Wii version is being looked into. The DS version of Spore (which Jenova Chen was working on prior to joining thatgamecompany), seeing release alongside the original version in April, will support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for gameplay.

Source

4) Heavy Iron is working on WALL•E for PSWii60, DSP and PS2.

Source

4) The title Kyle Gray is toiling on over at Tiburon is not just good, is not just addictive and utterly intoxicating, it is a sublime experience that is the best DS game coming out this year. Maybe he'll say something about it next week, maybe Tuesday, maybe between 10 and 11 AM. Also, that other game that may be discussed during that time, something called World of Goo is shaping up to be pretty good, looking to be one of the year's best titles. It is nice to see two Kyles doing their work to help the reputation of Kyles everywhere after the harm done to the name by Kyle Sampson.

Source

7) Something called Gears of War 2 IS going to be at something called GDC.

Source

It's a Wonderful World is coming stateside next year as well.

Source

8) Black Rock Studio's first game under its new moniker IS a PS360 off-road title coming in the fall.

Source

8) Cryptic's Marvel project is dead, but they have two or three other MMOs that they are working on. One will peep its little head out [in 2008].

Source

6) Can you say NFL Head Coach 09 for Xbox 360 and PS3 without getting excited? I'm fairly sure you cannot.

Source

1) Disney has some sort of title "inspired" by Rock Band, also featuring the word "band."

Source

5) The future for Iron Lore's next title is not too existent as they are in the throes of shutting down.

Source

1) Namco is bringing Family Ski stateside under the name Wii Ski or We Ski. How marketing managed to pull out that one baffles me, it is the epitome of deft.

Source

2) The action game Certain Affinity is working on is a lighthearted, swashbuckling pirate adventure.

2) In addition to Left 4 Dead, the collective of sixteen or so known as Certain Affinity is working on two unannounced titles, at least one documenting their previously mentioned fascination with lighthearted exploits of swashbuckling, names floating around are Plunder and Pirate's Booty.

Source

19) Yet another Super Monkey Ball game is in the works.

Source

5) Titles for Apple multitouch devices will no longer be novelties with a few well-known franchises (most falling in the simulation genre) from a couple of companies you probably have heard of.

Super Monkey Ball, Spore, Sega, and EA are well known. Further explanation isn't necessary.

Here's the story about that from someone.

"2K Boston is still recovering - a good chunk of the BioShock team did not want to work with Ken ever again, and 2K definitely understood the sentiment and let them set up a new studio so that they can make Bioshock 2, leaving Ken with Project X. A good chunk of the other senior 2K Boston people who were sick of Ken but didn't move to San Francisco ended up scattering to other AAA developers instead. In Quincy, they're essentially rebuilding a team from almost scratch again."

It should be noted 2K Marin (the new SF studio) also consists of a few people from 2K Australia, the Quincy studio's Canberran counterpart.

Source. The part about 2K Boston hating Ken Levine cannot be proven true or false, so there is essentially nothing that can degrade this to a "partially true rumor". However, I'm leaving it in there so people can see all the info without having to dig around SG's blog.

3) A sequel to Carnival Games is coming in the fall, with other platform(s) added to the mix.

Source

2) The forthcoming The Incredible Hulk game will the jolly green dude in environments that actually exist in the real world.

Source

The first glimpse at the [The Incredible Hulk] game will come within [March 2008].

Source

... I'm sure we all know that one of those unannounced titles is the sandbox The Dark Knight adaptation in development.

Source

7) Silicon Knights' game for Sega (previously known as The Box) is now going by the recently-trademarked name The Crucible: Evil Within (most popular choice from that survey from last December).

Source: The mega Xbox 360 survey leak in June.

... Alive is the latest from France's Darkworks coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC...in the future, with an emphasis on survival, not so much the horror that has filled the companies past games (however, this will likely maintain the M rating of those titles). Unlike past games, Alive will feature an online multiplayer mode. ...

Source

25) Mario Superstar Baseball Wii is sliding to home base [summer 2008].

Source

11) The next KOTOR is being worked on at BioWare, pre-production and some early production has been done internally at LucasArts, though.

Source

2) Don King's Prizefighter is NOT very good, as previously said.

Source

3) Turns out ShellShock 2 is a survival horror title, which does explain the zombies. Also, it is now a FPS.

Source

3) Some unfortunate news, Underground Development (formerly known as Z-Axis) will be closing down in the next month or so, following completion of work on the PS3 port of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

Source

1) Capcom will be publishing the debut title from Bionic Games, High Impact Games' sibling of sorts, which is a Wiixclusive original sci-fi actioner whose name escapes me.

Source

1) BottleRocket Entertainment (Rise of the Kasai) is the developer of the Splatterhouse revival.

Source

III) Big Huge Games Wii title is God the Game

Source #1, Source #2

2) According to Vancouverian who told me previous Next Level Games information, the developer is working on a new Punch-Out!.

Source

1) Nintendo's new handheld will see release in late 2009.

Source

2) Afrika is a "nonviolent game" with "positive social themes." Something certain to appease those who have always wanted to spell doom to fictional poachers without violence.

Source

9) Heavy Rain an "adventure game" that features a number of things I've never seen before in a game and it has been in production for at least two years by now..

1) Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer continues two things from Fahrenheit, the player plays as multiple characters and levels and areas players
have access are incredibly small, thus the game looks amazing and much effort is made to highlight even the finest details.

Source

3) When is The Sims 3 coming out?
Currently scheduled for February 2009 around the ninth anniversary of the release of The Sims.

Source

2) Raven Software is working on some action-RPG sequel set in the Marvel universe. Originality! Excelsior!

Source

4) Infinity Ward has begun working on Call of Duty 6. Originality! Excelsior!

Source

3) THQ Studio Australia's third-person action title is based off Warhammer.

Source

7) Watch out Mario Kart because Electronic Arts racing to the finish line [in 2008] with MySims: Racers for the Wii and DS.

Nah. Hah! Surfer Girls prevails again! Source.

Insomniac Games is indeed developing Resistance: Fall of Man 2 (no, not Rise of Man, as some people have created) tentatively scheduled for release next November. Aside from the first and last level, the game takes place entirely in [redacted], where someone who may or may not be Sgt. Nathan Hale (who plays a role in the story) has to deal with the Chimeran invasion of the [redacted] in [redacted] such as [redacted]. And there is a cliffhanger ending that sets up for a third title. Vehicles will be included in multiplayer this time around, one will be able to take to the sky with three new vehicles or boogie it down on the ground with the three vehicles from the first game's Campaign.

Source. Resistance 2 does not have "Fall of Man" in its name. There are no vehicles in MP.

1) The Jet Moto series is alive in the same way a rock is. Twisted Metal has a future on that new console that ends with a 3.

Source. The impossibility of new Jet Moto games has not been confirmed.

15) Ghostbusters game is coming 2009, likely not being developed by ZootFly, and is coming to PS360 and possibly Wii.

Source. Ghostbusters: The Video Game is coming in 2008, not 2009.

16) Street Fighter IV is 2d/3d/cell-shaded on the PS360.

Source. Platforms have not been confirmed.

20) Factor 5 would like to develop for Wii, but there are not any concrete plans for a title.

Source. There apparently were plans.

2) Treyarch is currently working three titles that will see release next fall, Spider-Man: Red vs. Black "featuring an original plotline chronicling one of the comic world's greatest rivalries," Call of Duty 5 "a historical shooter that introduces many innovative ideas never-before-seen in the series that will excite fans," and James Bond 007 (working title) "an explosive action game with a strong online component that lives up to the legacy of the greatest action character of all-time" that will be the first of annual releases.

Source. Exact names have not been confirmed.

1) No Skate DLC is happening because EA Black Box is busy working away at the sequel, which will take place beyond San Vanelona.

Source: Electronic Gaming Monthly.

17) Red Steel 2 not before May, with multiplayer and co-op.

It's apparently not coming out before May, lol.

2) Is Gears of War 2 coming out [in 2008]?
Definitely, Gears of War III is coming out 2010, after all.

Source. Gears of War 3 coming in 2010 is not confirmed.

5) When is RE5 and SFIV coming out? Any interesting tidbits?
September/October and July/August, respectively. The lead female character is Sherry Birkin, who is in her early twenties, and Wesker is will likely show up.

Source. SFIV is coming out in July to arcades. Sherry Birkin (who isn't the lead female character) and Wesker are both in RE5, but it's being released in March 2009 along with Street Fighter 4.

2) Resistance 2 trailer next month (you are probably reading this in February, so later this month), as well seeing the game (which looks amazing) in action in non-trailer form.

Resistance 2 was shown privately to N'Gai Croal. However, nothing was shown publicly (as generally assumed by everyone).

2) Namco also has an American-developed Wii cheerleading title, in which one uses the balance board for clandestine dancing operations and the nunchuck/Wiimote combo as pom poms.

3) Yeah, Wii cheerleading title is from THQ not Namco Bandai...turns out I did not notice the words "American company" (in reference to the publisher) in the original communication.

Source #1, Source #2. The original rumor of Namco developing Wii Cheer was true. However, All Star Cheer Squad, a different cheerleading title by THQ, was announced before which lead to the second quote. Because of this, SG rectified her original rumor to make it seem true even though it was real to begin with.

1) What American publishers have titles that support the Wii Balance Board coming out [in 2008]?
EA, Disney, Activision, Majesco, and one that starts with a T.

THQ's game "All Star Cheer Squad" uses the balance board. The other four publisher's support of the balance board has not been confirmed.

6) Guitar Hero DS IS one of the four Guitar Hero games that EGM mentioned and IS coming out this fall.

Source. A fall release date has not been confirmed.

1) Guitar Hero Aerosmith will rock this way in July. Unsurprisingly, Guitar Hero IV: [insert superfluous rock subtitle here] is out in Rocktober. As previously reported by the internet, Guitar Hero On Tour is out in June. There is a fourth title (as previously reported by EGM) that is "an action-packed Guitar Hero experience like no other" or, in English, it is different from the other Guitar Heroes. Also, those universally loved boss battles are returning.

The first three titles have been confirmed to exist. The fourth title isn't confirmed, but could be GH: Van Halen. The return of boss battles haven't been confirmed.

3) A sequel to Carnival Games is coming in the fall, with other platform(s) added to the mix.

Source. Carnival Games DS isn't the sequel.

16) EA's next-gen snowboarding title that may or may not have SSX in the title is coming [fall 2008], at the same time frame as "the best snowboarding game ever" (or so I'm told numerous times) Shaun White Snowboarding (which is also shredding next-gen systems).

Shaun White Snowboarding is coming this fall. An SSX title will not.

3) The next Diablo (probably titled Diablo III) will feature a single-player component (akin to previous titles) and an MMO component (less akin to previous titles), will be announced sometime [Spring 2008] and is still on track for release before decade's end.

Source. There isn't an MMO component.

4) Who is the company remaking games for PSN?
Square Enix was the company that the EGM rumor was talking about, but the games are not full-fledged remakes.

Well, Square Enix released some PS1 games on the Japanese PSN. Does that count?

3) Sony's will be launching a greatest hits line for PS3 soon with Resistance, Warhawk, and Motorstorm to start.

Source. This rumor was posted in February and the announcement came in July, so that kinda ruins the "soon" part, though.

4) The final version of Super Monkey Ball for iPhone will feature at least fifty levels and a number of mini-games. Spore definitely is not the sole appearance of a high-caliber gaming franchise on the iPhone and is not even the bee's knees of these franchises.

Source. We'll see about the "bee's knees" part.

4) A Montpellierian says Yoshitaka Amano is hooking up with Ubisoft, possibly for Beyond Good & Evil 2 (not the most surprising thing in the universe, as the Ancel-Amano relationship is rather amicable), which three Montpellierians say is just starting production (which contradicts what I previously heard...I think and totally disappoints me).

I'm not bothering with finding out if the game had just started production or whatever, so yes, my laziness is the reason this is a partially true rumor. Oh well.

5) No Wave Race, Luigi's Mansion's 2, Excitebike (it's called Nitrobike) or 1080 for Wii. Punch-Out for Wii, if it has gone beyond the prototype that was made last year, is a remake of the original NES title.

Punch-Out Wii is a remake. The other stuff is unconfirmed.

2) Also coming next year from Backbone Entertainment is a version of Gauntlet for the DS, the hack-and-slash adventure will support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for multiplayer with up to four players. Gauntlet will also make an appearance on Nintendo's other system in the same timeframe.

Source. The is no version of Gauntlet on the Wii at this time.

3) Three Wario games are in development.

Two games (at the time of the post's creation) were known to be in development: Wario Land Shake It, and Made in Ore.

1) Activision hopes you like Spider-Man, the company is producing two further web-slinging titles in addition to this fall's ultimate Red vs. Black, one follows our wall-crawling friend as he teams up with Wolverine for amazing some reason and the other I don't know about but has to be spectacular. Originality! Excelsior!

Red vs Black is apparently Web of Shadows, the Spider-man game featuring Wolverine mentioned in the rumor. There's also Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, which features Spider-man.

Also, Take-Two plans on introducing Bioshock swag, starting with various items featuring the recently-trademarked "Every Man Has a Choice, I Chose the Impossible."

BioShock swag was not introduced.

20) Fight Night 2008 is coming to the Wii.

EA Chicago was closed down.

3) Warner Brothers is interested in the prospect of making a movie called Halo.

The Halo movie was initially funder by 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures, and was later basically cancelled.

1) Facebreaker is the successor to Fight Night (it did start as a Fight Night Round 4/Fight Night 08, but evolved into something more unique), but do not fear as it is does not disregard the strong gameplay of its predecessor. Unlike the terrible Prizefighter, all people who have made significant contributions to Facebreaker are actually getting paid and are credited.

Source

II) Everquest is coming to PS3

Source

5) Mass Effect will be hitting the PC with bonus content included late this year/early next year.

To be fair, Mass Effect was announced for PC with new content. However, it is to be released May 2008, not Fall '08-Spring '09. The falsities outweigh the accuracies (since said accuracies were rather obvious to say). Therefore this rumor is deemed as false, especially since said rumor was made only days before the announcement.

9) Grasshopper Manufacturer's next game, a PS360 title, IS delightfully polarizing.

Grasshopper's next game is Fatal Frame IV, a Wii game.

Far Cry 2 has also been delayed because it was terrible. The game does not look like NEAR what has been shown. Even with the best PC available to the developers, the game just does not match what has been shown so far. Far Cry 2 is both bad and requires one hell of a machine (PC) to run.

No explanation necessary.

Max Payne 3 will see release in either summer or fall of [2008] for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

The believed-to-be-canceled game that was at development alongside the previously-believed-to-be-canceled Manhunt 2 at the now-defunct Rockstar Vienna has not been canceled and is currently being developed by an unknown Rockstar studio. Take-Two plans on having one major sequel release from Rockstar each season of [2008], with MC:LA for winter, GTAIV for spring, [Max Payne 3] in either summer or fall....and DNF (Duke Nukem Forever for those who do not like acronyms) in either summer or fall (whichever one that MP3 does not come out in).

Midnight Club: LA isn't coming out Winter 2008, DNF and Max Payne 3 aren't coming out this year, etc.

4) Itadaki Street DS will see a release in the states sometime [in 2008].

12) Nintendo is most likely co-publishing Itadaki Street DS here stateside and the game is almost certainly to get a new name (and I have been told it was Nintendo's idea to release the game outside of Japan). If the game does well, Itadaki Street PSP may be released stateside.

Not really.

1) Crysis is coming to PS360, but not until Q3 of EA's fiscal 09 [October-December 2008].

Not really.

4) Driver 5 (working title) is not exclusive to the PS3 (nor was such ever the case), it will be hitting PC and 360 as well sometime [in 2008].

Oh and not really. Maybe Driver 5 is being worked on, but it isn't coming out this year.

1) Wolfenstein is coming late summer/early [fall 2008] for PS360 and PC.

True. (Not really.) It is coming out for PS3 though, which SG called, but falsities outweigh the facts, etc.

5) Some of the 2008 additions to the Xbox Originals lineup: Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding, Amped 2, Armed and Dangerous, Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Blinx 2: Masters of Time & Space, Blood Wake, Brute Force, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Dead or Alive 3, Deathrow, Dino Crisis 3, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Fable bonus content, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, GunValkyrie, Halo 2, Jade Empire, Jet Set Radio Future, Mechassault, MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, Midtown Madness 3, Ninja Gaiden, Quantum Redshift, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Phantom Dust, Rent-A-Hero No. 1, Shenmue II, Sneakers, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Stubbs the Zombie in "Rebel Without a Pulse", Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus, ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth, Tork: Prehistoric Punk, Voodoo Vince, Whacked!. Service expected to have over one hundred titles end of next year.

2008 has come and passed; practically none of these titles have been released on the XBO service. And there's definitely not over 100 titles available.

1) Factor 5's next title, a [PS3-Only] downloadable affair out [in 2008], will feature multiplayer.

Factor 5 isn't releasing anything in 2008, and they haven't announced a downloadable PSN game. Maybe it'll feature multiplayer, maybe it won't.

2) EA Tiburon is working on a Wii-exclusive title.

4) EA Tiburon's Wii-exclusive title is a new intellectual property that is one of the two or three new intellectual properties from Tiburon that will see release [in 2008].

For consoles at least, EA Tiburon is essentially only working on multiplatform sports games.

6) The two-dimensional Grand Theft Auto titles (with Mission Packs included) will grace console(s) [in 2008] in a downloadable form.

Nah.

2) Mad Doc Software is working on a new entry in the SWAT series for PS360 and computing machines.

Not anymore! Mad Doc is now owned by Rockstar, the SWAT series is owned by Sierra.

5) Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow and God of War: Chains of Olympus will appear on PS2 by the end of [2008].

Nope. Maybe in 2009 though.

6) Sony Bend has another PSP Syphon Filter title for [fall 2008], storyline ties into some game coming out [in 2009].

No, they're working on Resistance: Retribution. Maybe they're working on another PSP Syphon Filter, but it's not coming out this year at least.

3) The market of masses shalt not fret, the interesting and different new intellectual property that is Criterion's next game will appear on [Wii and DS], amongst others, perhaps [in 2008].

Maybe their next game is a new IP for Wii, but if it exists, it's not coming this year.

"I don't mean to be a tease - all I can say is that I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is "in game", as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion."

I am fairly certain this is Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain.

2) Also, I can confirm I was right (as were many others), that PS3 title the BBC journo said was going on about is indeed Heavy Rain. The teaser trailer, which will see release sometime in the next few months, follows the main character from a morning ritual to the frantic reaction to a seeming lacuna in time (the subsequent journey is the game's main plotline) and the explanation of the game's title. The technology is quite impressive, all the characters in the game are aware of the environments and contexts that they are in--it effects how they behave, what they say, how they feel, et cetera--while taking in their personality and personal experiences into account so that a character's behavior is consistent, realistic and varied.

The BBC guy said it wasn't Heavy Rain.

2) Facebreaker will KOing in [October/November].

Actually, September.

3) I am told The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" will be in Guitar Hero IV. Definitely apropos.

"Teenage Kicks" isn't in Guitar Hero: World Tour.

12) Zoonami has a few titles that will be available through WiiWare next year.

13) Q Entertainment is working on WiiWare title or two for release for next year.

Apparently not.

V) In [2008], Sony will announce and make available its answer to XNA and WiiWare.

No.

2) That Max Payne 3 that some Canadian Rockstar studio is working on may be pushed back to 2009, might take crown of the new Duke Nukem Forever (since DNF is coming out next fall) as development was supposedly started from scratch when said developer took mantle of Max Payne 3 last year

DNF isn't coming in 2008, lol. Falsities outweigh accuracies, etc.

2) The Mother/Earthbound series is coming to Wii and/or DS stateside, very possibly [in 2008]. A Mother IV is only slightly more likely than Shenmue III

I'd type "mother fans ;_;", but since the fan translation patch has been released, that wouldn't be entirely accurate...

6) Microsoft thinks that a sequel is worth paying for the exclusivity of despite knowing nothing about it (aside from the title) and team behind the original is not really doing the sequel. [SG confirmed that the aforementioned game is BioShock 2.]

There's a BioShock 2 trailer on the BioShock PS3 disc. If MS really did pay for even timed exclusivity, I doubt they'd allow 2K Marin to have the first trailer debut on the PS3 version.

9) At least one 360 SKU with built-in WiFi will be out later this year.

Sorry!

2) Anyone looking for an indicator of what they will see in The Sims 3 ... [will] have to wait until the 17th. Simultaneous Mac release...what?

No Mac release at all. It is coming out for the iPhone, lol.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...s-edition.html

A source close to the title has informed me that Max Payne 3 is being developed for PS3 as well. And another source tells me that the game is being developed in Vancouver.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...formation.html

Exclusive: LA Noire information

* The game will be a free-roaming title with a historically-accurate recreation of Los Angeles in 1947.
* Team Bondi has even hired a costume designer to research the clothing of the era so the game's attire can be accurate.
* Aside from main story, side missions will be based on actual cases pulled straight of the newspapers of 1947.
* A US Marine plays a big role in the story.
* Not so exclusive...but LA Noire definitely ain't coming to Xbox 360, the size of the game is an obstacle to this.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ve-things.html

1) Ready At Dawn is working on a PS3 title.

4) Darkwatch 2 is currently in development at High Moon Studios for Xbox 360 and PS3.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...xclusives.html

Oil's Well is making a comeback on downloadable title.

Forza Motorsport 3 is currently in development at Turn 10 and aiming for a spring/summer 2009 release.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...re-things.html

1) The Gears of War trilogy will be finished on the Xbox 360.

2) IO-Interactive's next Hitman game, tentatively slated for release [summer 2008], is coming to the Wii.

4) Even though the forthcoming Prince of Persia 4 will probably not be coming to the Wii, the system will receive an "alternate title" in the Prince of Persia franchise.

7) Sony Bend is working on a PS3 Syphon Filter title slated for release sometime in 2009.

8) Neither of n-Space's two Wii titles stars a ghost. However, they are even more ambitious than that ghost game and far better. One features a temple level that looks like it was swiped out of Red Steel and the other more ambitious title features an alien reptilian creature who bares quite a resemblance to Ganondorf. I'd be surprised if either sees release before March 2009.

9) Ubisoft will be publishing Soma, the Human Head/Mark Ecko collaboration coming to PS3 and 360 sometime before two years from now, and which I guarantee is way cooler than the overrated Prey.

11) That non-Metroid game Retro Studios is working on is a new IP that is not an FPS.

15) ChuChu Rocket! comeback for DS and/or Wii.

21) Fuse Games + that pink round guy that floats = their next DS title.

22) Super Punch-Out! is coming to Virtual Console [in 2008].

23) Monster Games is developing another game for Nintendo, that is not an Excite Truck sequel.

24) Wii Motor Sports Airplane is a WiiWare title.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...st-things.html

3) Ubisoft Montpelier is working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, Frédérick Raynal's new game (creepy), and an MMO. One of those will see release [in 2008] and the other two in 2009.

BG&E2 is confirmed for 2009, the other two titles are unknown in virtually every way. There isn't enough substantial info to prove this true or false.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...-not-read.html

3) Rumored new Zelda title for Wii? It's happening. Multiple titles. But the new big, epic Zelda for Wii is probably about two years away [in 2009].

4) Nintendo is working on 30+ WiiWare titles, including some based off franchises such as Zelda (two games) and Mario.

7) I heard something back in March or April about a Shenmue title for Wii, but I have not heard anything since about it and doubt that there is any truth to that. Despite announcements to the contrary, I've heard from quite a few people that Shenmue III has never actually entered production. To my knowledge, Shenmue Online is the only Shenmue title currently in development.

2) WiiWare titles based on DK [and] Metroid are in the works.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

1) Eden Games is currently working on a new Test Drive title for a release late [2008]/early 2009 on PS3/360/PC, the game will use the open-world gameplay and online features seen in last year's Test Drive Unlimited.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ts-vol-ii.html

3) F-Zero is coming to Wii and possibly, but probably not, being developed by Monster Games (according to someone with a rather legimate email address).

4) A new Skies of Arcadia for the Wii seems to be a yes.

6) KHIII, if it is coming out. is definitely coming to the Wii, they need the game's demographics (which lean a bit younger than your average SquareEnix fanboy) to purchase the title. They are Disney, who is co-publishing the title outside of
Japan.

10) No Wario World sequel.

17) A new PSP is three or four years away

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

I) Jade Empire II is a mix between steampunk and Chinese mythology

IV) Night Driver, Canyon Bomber, and Crystal Castles are coming back as downloadable titles

1) The game counterpart of the 2009 Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg HBO miniseries The Pacific (the follow-up to 2001's Band of Brothers) is being developed by Delirious Games, who has not even announced a game prior to landing this license and I had never heard until yesterday, for PC/PS3/360. It is a third-person shooter with "innovative features." Concept art for the title can be found at the developer's site.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

3) Indiana Jones has "a brand new development team on board" and is "back on track." I now understand why someone who was working on the title was a bit nervous when I talked about it with them a few months back.

4) Rent-A-Hero No. 1 will be available on XBLA (on Microsoft's Xbox 1 game download service) next year. I recommend picking that one up.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

2) Retro Studios is working on two games (and possibly more), one for DS and the other (a new IP that is not a FPS, as previously mentioned) for Wii. Neither of which involve the word Metroid.

5) The next Tony Hawk game, what I call Tony Hawk's X (Activision, feel free to use that title), will abandon the series' signature arcade style in favor of "redefining skateboarding games with the most realistic representation of the sport ever seen in a game." In other words, Skate took a bite out of the sales of Tony Hawk's Proving Ground.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

4) Kirby will be tilting and tumbling on WiiWare.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

1) What is 2K Boston's next game?
That secret Project X that has been in development since last year or so, should be announced next year and is coming out in 2009. It's a tactical RPG. You can guess the genre of the game coming after that in the year we made contact.

3) What is the other title Eidos Montreal is working on?
It is from one of these franchises: Legacy of Kain, Thief, or Fear Effect

While this is an unconfirmed rumor, Eidos Montreal did post a job listing for a game starting with a "T".

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

3) BioWare Austin's first massively-multiplayer role playing game, coming 2009, has a fantasy setting akin to the company's previous fantasy role playing games, possibly based on the intellectual property those fantasy role playing games revolved around. As previously mentioned, this is not related to Star Wars, BioWare Edmonton is working on that one. But the new Star Wars MMO, tentatively slated for the latter half of 2009 (possibly coinciding with the premiere of the Star Wars TV series), is in development elsewhere. LucasArts may have a second MMO up its sleeves as well.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...olume-vii.html

2) What is this new Blizzard MMO?
Demons, the Blizz don't do new IP.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

1) That previously-mentioned "something from J.J. Abrams that is not Lost is getting the game treatment" is that Star Trek movie.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

3) Team Ico is working on two titles (maybe three), one major and the other(s) smaller. The smaller one(s) is/are more like Echochrome and does/do not take place inside the Ico canon.

4) Kane & Lynch 2 is still happening.

7) A2M is working on Indiana Jones for people who cannot stand to play consoles with the number three in the name--DS/Wii/PS2/PSP.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...th-things.html

1) That Avatar game that Ubisoft Montreal is working with will ship with high-quality stereoscopic 3D glasses (like the ones that you get when you see an IMAX 3D film).

2) Namco is working on a console 3D (as in the context above) Ridge Racer title.

3) The current version of Indiana Jones has pretty much nothing in common with what was seen in the E3 06 trailer. The version where Indy is Ali rhythmic taps of the A button is no more and a signature, announced feature or two may have disappeared.

4) A2M's Indiana Jones title, which has had a far more stable development, follows same plot its big next-gen siblings, but in an alternate universe sort of way. Waggle-lovers shan't worry, Wii is the lead SKU for the title.

6) There is a "Christian and historically accurate response to Spore" in the works.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...nth-thing.html

Avatar is not a MMORPG.

It is an epic action-RPG in which the actions of the player decide the outcome of the game (kind of like Mass Effect) and it kind of looks like Final Fantasy X.

9) [Fall 2008's] Wolfenstein takes place in some large, open hub city where you select missions and go about them. And there are side quests too! So it's like Saboteur, except with more shooting, less French people, and is not published by Electronic Arts.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...rd-things.html

1) Those who purchase Halo Wars will be treated to an exclusive sneak peak of Peter Jackson's Halo: Chronicles ala Zone of the Enders and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

2) That previously-mentioned virtual recreation of an existent earthquake from Eidos is called Downfall: San Francisco and takes place following the San Francisco Earthquake in 1906.

6) Blue Castle Games is working on a sequel to The Bigs, which will see release this MLB season and a racing title (and an action title).

The first part of the rumor isn't true. However, it's not enough to mark this as false completely.

What is that non-L.A. Noire PS3 exclusive from Rockstar?
The spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver from Rockstar San Diego.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ht-things.html

1) Amongst the forthcoming casual releases from Ubisoft is a "dating simulation" called First Kiss, a "town management simulation" going by the title of Mayor and a "medical simulation" called Emergency Unit. Oh, one cannot neglect future masterpieces like Monkeyz and Dinoz. And there is something about yachts as well (hopefully, a yacht racing title, I have always wanted to race yachts).

3) Codemasters is publishing a Hollywood simulation akin to the The Movies.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ust-go-on.html

1) Factor 5 has not abandoned the PS3, despite yesterday's announcement appearing to indicate the contrary. Also, some may mishear one of the company's forthcoming projects as Toucan Sam title.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...1/listing.html

1) Obsidian is NOT making Baldur's Gate 3.

4) L.A. Noire is still NOT coming to the 360.

5) A Wii Star Fox IS under development.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...-believer.html

5) Crytek is overseeing, but not developing the console versions of Crysis.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...e-forrest.html

3) Have you ever seen millions of dollars used to market console DLC? Something called GTAIV will change that.

4) GRIN's AAA science-fiction film tie-in coming this year is about this journey in the stars.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ntry-they.html

3) Yes, Onimusha 5 is coming out [in 2009] for PS360. So are Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2.

7) That epic space game from EA is not a new Wing Commander, but a new Wing Commander is in development.

8) One of those Rare XBLA titles stars Mr. Pants.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...e-created.html

remember this story? that figure was actually €21 million ($30 million) and it has only gone up from there (by gone up i mean it has doubled to €42 million/$60 million). by the time killzone 2 comes out it will dethrone shenmue as the most expensive video game ever made. ... the studio has high turnover and a few other things. because of this incapacity a nice portion of the team at studio cambridge is assisting in development. to top this off the game may be pretty but it's barely mediocre and past the point of no return. the september release date floating around will without doubt be missed if guerrilla sticks to their intention of not releasing the game until its done which will be early next year.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...moskepsis.html

1) Retro's next title is a Zelda spin-off, announcement could come around E3.

Wasn't announced at E3. Not enough to mark false.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...2/hogtown.html

4) That Shrek game is a music game, an absurd music game.

1) Next year's Star Wars MMO, not being developed by BioWare or Sony Online Entertainment, will launch simultaneously for PC and consoles alongside the debut of the first Star Wars TV series in fall 2009, of which the storylines of the game will tie into. Those Artistic Lucases already have a second online title planned that I've heard has nothing to do with Star Wars.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...d-thunder.html

2) Disney's Wii Balance Board title is some licensed thing with Hannah Montana and her High School Musicals.

4) Some more about the last two words of this blog's title. Star Wars Galaxies will shut down within a year after the release of the new MMO. The Artistic Lucases think that they have the only IP that can pose a serious challenge World of Warcraft and find that the setting of KOTOR is too niche to be a threat. They apparently expect the new Star War MMO to have at least three million subscribers by the end of the first year. As previously mentioned, some Edmonton studio is doing some Star Wars RPG about some knights in some old republic.

This is one of those bits of speculation I hear that I hope is true, but probably is not.
6) Take-Two is declining interest on a BioShock movie because they want the film to be based off the game's original "cult deprogrammer" story, which apparently no one is interested in despite that it seems far fitting for celluloid than Xbox 360. In the very likely case that this is not true, please pursue making a film off this story.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...cry-tough.html

1) Despite few signs of the first game being near completion, Microsoft is so confident about Too Human that they gave Silicon Knights the greenlight to commence work on Two Human (not the real title) last fall. Microsoft expects Two Human to go into full production by fall. Apparently, Microsoft is crazy enough to believe Dyack will have this baby ready in 2010.

2) Dyack's scary baby with Sega named The Crucible: Evil Within or something, scheduled for birth [in 2009], could not be anymore dissimilar to Too Human and is more akin to their perpetual gloom simulator.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...-not-date.html

2) A sequel to 2007 GOTY Alvin and the Chipmunks is on its way.

4) RedLime is not Road Rash nor is it [insert locale here] Strike (I am not so sure how you crazy kids came up with those ones), but I do see the correct answer amongst the guesses by commenters on a blog post about RedLime (do not bug me about it, you shall find out about it sooner than you expect outside of the blogosphere).

5) For the twenty-five or so people who have emailed inquiring about it, the new gig of Harvey Smith (one of the most underrated talents of the Austin scene) is game director of an unannounced title at Arkane Studios Austin.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...-door-and.html

Rockstar is fully owned by Take-Two and it will stay that way, as will the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...tru-tetru.html

3) As previously mentioned, the last crack at a new Road Rash was a PS360 affair over at the now-defunct Warrington studio. Despite no new plans currently existing for another Road Rash, the prospect is being contemplated.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...scientist.html

1) Fable 2 will see a release on computing machines this decade.

2) N-Space is going back to its roots with a PS(t?)Wii60 license music game aimed at the tween demo. They have also apparently finished development on their version of The Force Unleashed and are in the midst of development of a new dual screen title. No word on whether they are still Nintendo's Floridian inamorata.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...onaldinho.html

1) Ready At Dawn's first dive into original intellectual property is multiplatform, as in PS360 and possibly Wii.

4) Apparently, N-Space is no longer Nintendo's Floridian inamorata.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...got-small.html

1) A little title called The Godfather II will feature a deep online component somewhat akin to Grand Theft Auto IV.

3) Some more about L.A. Noire:

* Team Bondi's goal is to have every NPC in the city feature a distinct personality and different knowledge sets
* The game is not being funded by Sony, who dropped the title (Phil Harrison and Brendan McNamara can't stand each other, McNamara & Company's tendency to miss milestones did not help either, but had very little to do with Phil's decision), there is nothing stopping a 360 release.
* The amount of music in the primarily jazz soundtrack is "comparable to GTA."
* The detecting mechanics are described as "an analysisfest" to which reaction has been polarizing, one calling the detective elements "fatally boring" and another remarking that the mechanics are "absolutely innovative." The former dubs the game "Assassin's Creed: Noir Edition" and the latter went on about "investigating the social structure of 1947 Los Angeles."
Finally, information about at least some of the crimes you will be investigate in the game can be found here.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ff-winner.html

2) Turns out Namco Bandai is quite fond of my taxonomic abilities. Deft folks in marketing, I shall help you with naming the inevitable localization of Namco Carnival, so here's a few suggestions: We Party, Let's Play, Let's Party, or Amy Winehouse Trades Crack for Acid and Designs a Video Game.

4) The Digipen alumni at NST's current Wii title is an action game apparently featuring many lasers that is shaping up to be better than Project H.A.M.M.E.R., fairly original too.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...rry-up-im.html

I learned a few days ago [Red Dead Revolver 2] was a sequel, not spiritual successor (yes, that information was wrong), coming to PS360, official announcement later this year, release [in 2009].

... a team at EA RS is currently working away at a new Simpsons title.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...er-girl-x.html

1) Any more info on Ready At Dawn's first original IP?
It is a departure for RAD, and if how it was described to me was any indication, it should be capable of going mano a mano with any of the franchises they have previously tackled and stand out amidst the superabundant normalcy. It sounds like something magical.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...3/bop-bet.html

2) TimeGate Studios' has a title called Spirits and Souls, presumably this is their MMO.

3) Day 1 Studios has a title that was described to me as "a first-person shooter taking place in the most thrilling of gritty, realistic urban environments." Sounds like something avant-garde I have never heard before. I wish them the best of luck, but the marketplace has a tendency to shun those who dare to be original and it just sounds too bizarre for me personally.

4) NaturalMotion is ramping up production on "an original title that defines its own genre" that they compare to Psychonauts and LittleBigPlanet.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...os-i-hate.html

1) CD Projekt Red's next title, which walks like a The Witcher sequel and talks a The Witcher sequel, will also be hitting consoles.

2) Gusto Games, the developer of the somber minimalist masterpiece Urban Freestyle Soccer, is working on "a children's survival horror title" (I'm not kidding, those were the exact words that someone used to describe this to me). Guinness World Records better watch its back.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...0-million.html

3) Yep, Eidos Montreal's second title is [a Thief game]. Probs will be lacking in the internal drama department.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ng-rhinos.html

1) Omikron KARMA has been killed because the David Cage did not feel the story was up to par; however, something not Heavy Rain has taken the place of that title.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...will-make.html

1) It might be worth noting that the Shenmue mobile game an occasionally recurring piece of gossip (which I am always hesitant to belief, as it would require Sega to put more money into a franchise with no guarantee of profit and it does not mesh with the rest of Sega's mobile lineup for Japan).

4) Activision has a tie-in for next summer's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Originality! Excelsior!

5) Factor 5's title for Brash is an odd one, calling the director of the film simply a "game fan" might be the understatement of the century and I am going to be very upset if the screw this up, unless I am going in the wrong direction from the cryptic clues I am being given.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...loop-loop.html

4) If an anonymous comment on this blog and a somewhat cryptic, pun-laced email from a very reliable Dallasite are to be believed, Retro Studios is going the way of Digital Anvil. Hopefully this is not the case.

UPDATE: Thanks to Jeffk for making me realize my glaring omission of Clive Thompson. The somewhat ambiguous words of a venerable Austinite don't bode well for number four.

UPDATE TWO: Something definitely went down at Retro last Friday that made a number of folks not too eager to head back in to the office today. An office that they may not be occupying for much longer.

UPDATE THREE: Another Texan says "pretty much no one at retro would agree to relocate at nintendo's behest, as asinine shenanigans are typically met with little fanfare." Not that hard to believe.

UPDATE FOUR: The proximate Shacknews says that Retro is not closing shop and corroborates the tale from the commenter about senior staff being escorted off premises, but I'm told from a few folks that that there is a general feeling of uneasiness in the Retro offices that could lead to more departures. The quote in the previous update is not meant to imply that relocation is going to happen, just that no Retro employees would relocate if Nintendo asked them to since there is no real incentive for them to so considering Nintendo's previous behavior. Giving extremely little autonomy does not create favorable sentiment.

Note: As said by Shacknews, "Design director Mark Pacini, art director Todd Keller, and principal technology engineer Jack Mathews were escorted off the premises last Friday." This doesn't necessarily mean Retro is closing down, or relocating, but it does prove that something big happened at Retro. Despite this, it doesn't prove the myriad of other rumors in the blog post true nor false; therefore, this is staying as an "unconfirmed rumor".

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...ter-dream.html

3) A Parisian says the Yoshitaka Amano Ubisoft hookup is not called Beyond Good & Evil 2, but Ancel is apparently involved in this relationship.

4) Ancel's studio also has a "kinda epic but kinda expected" Wiixclusive (not named Beyond Good & Evil 2), apparently on track to ship for this holiday season.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...hing-make.html

1) Luxoflux is the developer of next year's tie-in for Michael Bay's avant-garde indie film Transformers 2, which is based on Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins. Wouldn't it be ironic if a version of this was Robomodo's project with Activision (unlikely, but they do have an awesome logo with a robot)?

4) Even though Sega Superstars Tennis is not doing particularly well, Sumo Digital is working away on "a new entry in a venerable Sega sports franchise that draws upon the team's previously-established expertise."

5) Loose Cannon Studios', a Kirkland-based studio founded last year primarily consisting of ex-Sucker Punch folk that were the creative force behind the Sly Cooper series, debut title is "the most hilarious thing to ever come from King County" and features "mesmerizing art direction." Color me interested even though I can't recall anything real hilarious springing out of King County, so this may just the interactive equivalent of New Love, American Style.

6) The release for A2M's Indy game is currently scheduled to coincide with the Crystal Skull home video release.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.c...l-come-on.html

1) Propaganda Games' forthcoming PCS360 action-RPG is due out in 2010, "an original open world title" and I hear Oblivion is the game to beat/inspiration/reference/party hat supplier.

4) If a quite reliable Parisian and a couple other Frenchmen are to be believed, Microsoft is attempting to get exclusivity rights to a Le Petit Prince game.

True. That said, I'll probably have to come up with a "partially true" status thingy because she did call the Ghostbusters game by Zootfly and most of the R2 info.

As i said in the other thread, this is complete bullshit.

If for whatever reason you don't believe me, ...you can read THIS interview with Peter Moore which went up on the 5th.

Fight Night Round 4 is in development and will be released early in 2009. Facebreaker is not, and has never been planned as a successor to the Knockout Kings/Fight Night franchise. The two titles are being developed by two different studios, and are aimed at two different markets. Surfer Girl is full of shit.

Whoa calm down, it's only me pulling something I believe to be an obvious development out of my ass, similar to a lot of Surfer Girl's predictions... errr... rumors.

Like SFIV 3D yet cell-shaded. This was the consensus opinion anyway. If you were wrong, oh well, but the likelihood of this being right seemed higher than a high-res 2D fighter.

Wasn't it announced that they are working on Deus Ex 3 now?

3) Also coming next fall is the Wii version of Spore from EA Montreal, which be the first home console version of the title to see release. The Wii version feature an online mode for content sharing akin to that found in the original version and the possibility of online gameplay for the Wii version is being looked into. The DS version of Spore (which Jenova Chen was working on prior to joining thatgamecompany), seeing release alongside the original version in April, will support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for gameplay.

hmm the Wii version is confirmed, but is it the online/sharing component? where?

and wasn't she right on the juiced/stuntman things? hmmm I guess it was known before the THQ conference / gamasutra report.

Still, impressive work.

I remember the rush of joy when I found out about the Ghostbusters game. Heres hoping it doesn't turn out to be a huge digital dog turd.

The Mother rumour had better be true.

One does not taunt me with false Mother rumours. Oh, they do not.

4) GRIN's AAA science-fiction film tie-in coming this year is about this journey in the stars.

I'm not allowed to say what it is, but I can confirm that this is FALSE.

1) Nintendo's new handheld will see release in late 2009.

How will we know if that's false or not until the end of 2009?

Nice work, but I agree with the others: keep the true and false rumors separate.

Eew, another Mark Ecko game? :(

Good work in this post though, makes things a lot more convenient than the clusterfuck that is the original Surfer Girl thread.
