Sony: “PS4 ‘generally sold out at all retailers”

The Target by me regularly has one or two in the case, I have never seen any other Ps4's at retail other than that. Wal-mart, Best Buy, Gamestop, etc are always out.

I think the 7-11 by me may have a Xbone in stock

I don't think that's it. One of the problems with ramping up production that high when manufactured by a third party (Foxconn) is that, generally speaking, you have to keep production up that high for a long time as part of your contract. So, for example, if they'd wanted to be able to produce 1.5 million consoles in China per month instead of 1 million, they'd have to agree to do that for the entire year, which may or may not have been worth it just to try to make sure they met demand for the first 3-5 months.

Mmm. Yes that's a very fair point; I wasn't aware production contracts were constructed that way.

Finally saw my first PS4 in the wild at a Texas Target the other day, nearly tripped over some XB1s on my way out.
This almost made me spill my yummy Pink Lemonade as we await yet another Blizzard here in Brooklyn and the NYC area.
Oh, and yeah, them PS4's are still sold out. Plus my local GameStop has moved locations without telling anyone. THEY HOARDED ALL TEH PEE ESS FOURS!

Winter is coming. Stock up on PS4's as they will be the de facto currency in the new America after the storm hits!

I've only ever seen one PS4 in stores since it launched and it got bought while I was there. I've seen a ton of Xbox Ones in stores, and only seen one person buy one. I've seen lots of people ask about PS4 stock at stores.

I live in Seattle too, which is pretty much, like, Microsoft's backyard.

I am happy that I was finally able to get one today thanks to Amazon. Will be here on Friday. Now I just need to figure out what games to buy! :D

Tiny Brains is $10 on PS Store right now as well. Great little PS4 coop title if that's something you're looking for, also PS3/4 cross-buy, which is nice. Normally $20

Resogun, Battlefield 4 and Black Flag if you haven't already played them. Not to mention the great free titles like Warframe and stuff like Outlast and Don't Starve(not my cup of tea, but some like it) if you have a PS+ subscription. Also it might seem weird, but I also find watching the PS Live streaming to be strangely addictive.

Costco had a grand opening near me last week. Had a pallet 5ft high of Xbox Ones and PS4s. Over the weekend they got down to around 5 PS4s left and still had a pallet of Xbox Ones.

So, uh, watch out for Costco grand openings in your area. They will be well stocked in PS4s. That's all I got.

Sounds fun! I will have to try it. :)

Are both Outlast and Don't Starve still available with PS+? Has BF4 gotten more stable?

Well I think they alternate so you probably can't get Resogun or Don't Starve for free now. Outlast is still available though as it's the February title. Battlefield 4 is ok for the most part. There are some issues, but it's a good time to get into the game as they are giving you rewards for logging in every day by unlocking battlepacks, which give you weapon addons without having to get alot of xp to get them. That goes on until the end of February I believe. You should still get a $10 credit in the box to use towards something on the PS Store also. That would get you Tiny Brains for free or something like Flower. Trine 2 is also fun if you haven't played that.

I got one earlier today too! Shipped this evening, Friday delivery :)

Someone made a new thread about them being in stock on Amazon, that's how I found out, but it got locked pretty quick.

I think someone can make an overall general availability thread with links to all retailers and that would be allowed, but some of the mods don't want people posting seperate threads every time it pops up on Amazon or another retailer even though it is helpful to people since it's still pretty hard to find.

I picked one up yesterday in my local gaming store... In Brussels. Media markt and any other retailer has been sold out for months. I have no idea how the guy has them in stock. He was very secretive about it though... He handed me the ps4 in a big white unmarked bag over eh counter and told me not to tell anyone where I got it from ...

Sounds legit.

Is Sony having supply problems or is the Ps4 just that in demand? It's Feb and they're still selling out so fast...

Probably a little of both. No doubt demand is still high, but the PS4 isn't being replenished at retailers very much. Japanese launch is probably eating-up a bunch of their current production

I'd imagine they're limiting shipments to retailers to prep for the Japanese launch. I bet a couple weeks after that (maybe a few) supply will be more spread out around the world again

the only supply problems they're having is that they're spreading the stock around the world rather than saturating two or three markets.

not sure if its a better strategy than Microsoft's but it seems like they're selling whatever they're making and they're making more than Microsoft.... so 1 + 1 = 2

Taken Feb 3rd, at Wal-Mart... it's also in stock at Gamestop, it doesn't seem to be selling out anymore here, most of the complaints are the same, no games, or no exclusives worth getting.

Looks like a single returned Ps4 (box looks like its been opened).

Not exactly a pile high picture of PS4 stacking the shelves is it ?

Is it going to harm your feelings to have the PS4 in stock and have photographic proof? If you want I can take a picture of my local Gamestop too with their big "PS4 now in stock" sign.

As for the return thing... not sure how that affects anything, if someone returns it, it is technically stock not sold, as for Wal-Mart's open box policies, they send all open products back to the manufacturer, so what you're saying is two things, pointless, and not true.

Meanwhile In "Tier 2" Territory with no official Xbox One release date yet :

Yup, my country (Belgium) does not even have a release date yet...but it already has plenty of Xbox One's stock (took those pictures just walking in 2 different stores in Brussels last week).

Meanwhile, in my local American Best Buy:

Not uncommon to see stacks of them just sitting around like this. Never seen a single PS4 in stock.

Yep, I have a few pictures like this too, like this one taken mid Christmas rush

I'm kinda worried about this gen overall, nothing is selling out like the Wii did, and might not ever... if no exclusives give incentives to buy next gen, we might see a smaller generation than last. :X

I broke down and just got a bundle off of Gamestop online. It came with 1 year subscription to PS+ and a extra controller. I just returned the extra controller at my local Gamestop for a full refund and I was planning on getting PS+ anyways. So basically I only spent a extra 15$ for the S&H

I have no hurt feelings, I have 2 Ps4 and live in UK (I have 2 360's as well).

It was a simple observation of a picture of 1 damaged box and your assumption that Ps4 are piled high give me a good laugh this morning. So thank you.

No point in getting into a console sales debate for USA as NPD is out today.

Are people in the U.K really struggling to find them? My local Sainsbury's (fallowfield, Manchester) has had them in stock for weeks. Both the solo pack and the Killzone bundle. Had them on shelves as recently as yesterday. Never seen them out of stock there.

Isn't the PS4 actually selling faster than the Wii did? Wii just had much less supply so it was harder to find for long periods of time.

Huh?
I guess you are the one with the "hurted feelings".
Posting a pic of a single PS4 in store (10 days ago) and talking about "not selling out anymore" is quite funny. Keep cool and relaxe, my friend.
