I had to turn off V-Sync, because for some reason it would tank my frames to 30, nothing helped.

I'm playing on Ultra @ 1440p w/ FXAA (because TXAA is blurry garbage) and I'm getting 60+ fps. No stuttering, no problems - except for V-Sync completing destroying my frames for no reason.

How do you fix that problem where my FPS goes to either 30 or 60?

If I turn off vsync I get tearing.

I can't test myself, but you can try the following:
Disable V-Sync in the game, force V-Sync On through your GPU driver control panel.
or
Disable V-Sync in the game and GPU drivers. Use D3DOverrider and enable V-Sync and the setting labelled "Triple Buffering".

Since the game is 64bit and D3DOverrider only works with 32bit process you'll have to go to the darkside and get Raedeon Pro. I'm pretty sure it works with 64bit applications and should work regardless what GPU you have. Still at work so can't test sadly.

Anyone else download some small update form uplay this morning? Was this the day1 patch that has been mentioned.

No idea what this small download was...

C'mon guys...

i5-3570 non-K 3.4 (3.8 Turbo)
7870XT 2GB, Core @ 1100MHz
8GB DDR3

How pooped am I with 2GB VRAM? I'll be looking good for 1080p, high settings, right?

Triple buffering seems to already be in the game, with v-sync set to 1 frame I hover around 45fps.

Ah, I was wondering if this game shared that feature with Far Cry 3. Yes, V-Sync set to 1 frame should do what you want. If you set V-Sync to 2 frames, you will get basic double-buffered V-Sync that will drop you to 30fps if you cannot maintain 60fps. At least that's how it is in Far Cry 3. I really need this work day to end. =/

Could you post your specs?

Looks like my i5 750 is having trouble keeping up with this game. Managed to do ok through AssCreeds 3 and 4. Time to tweak the LoD settings I guess.

Finally some CPU benchmark.

GameGPU

The game obviously takes advantage of the extra i7 threads but it's only a 10% boost, which is about what I would have expected from hyperthreading. The 2 additional physical cores in the i7 3970X make a much more significant difference. i5s still out performing every AMD CPUs across the board. The i5 2500K at stock speeds seems to be holding up just fine and overclocked to its true potential it should still be an absolute beast.

I'd love to know how the older i5 750 (and the i7s of that generation too) holds up against the AMD chips. I wouldn't be surprised if it won out even at stock clocks.

Yep, and im glad most of us in the PC build thread kept hammering i5's over the AMD 8 cores. The i7 which are only 4 cores 8 threads, still out perform AMD's true 8 core due to superior clock for clock performance.

2500k beats all the AMD 8 core CPUs in the first chart in the OP too, eh. A lot of 8350 people were patting themselves on the back for choosing it over i5's. Well...

Same for the i3 vs FX 6300 debate. Watch_Dogs was supposed to be the game that proved us wrong there too.

Could you post your specs?

i7 4770k @ 4.2GHz
GTX Titan SC
Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR3 2133MHz
SSD Samsung 840 PRO

Maxed out and smooth. The 6GB of VRAM in my Titan is definitely a godsend here.

I am definitely hitting 60+ frames at all times, when things get insane, i.e. I got into a battle and there were 15 cop cars all exploding because of my grenades I dip to 50.

That's why I'm confused by benchmarks that show my specs should be getting lower - I can tell you this much, whatever frames they were getting are incorrect. Because I am getting way higher than that.

I have an old i7-870 - 8Gb with 2x HD7970 in Crossfire. I'm waiting for the Oculus CV1 before I upgrade so I guess I'm better off skipping this one for now?

Seeing as I've went laptop gaming, I was wondering how well what I have will run the game before buying it.

(I replaced my old laptop because the internal motherboard fried itself.)

i7-4700HQ
8GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M (2GB)

(Assume that I'll be making use of the 30 FPS lock.)

You'll be fine, you'll be at worst around 8350 levels. Look into OCing that i7 too, still plenty of life left in it yet.

My I5 3570K is overclocked to 4.3GHz (from the 3.8GHz turbo setting). Would it be beneficial to try and eek out some more to see if I can get to 4.5 (if temps etc being okay - I am using Hyper 212 cooler). Would 200MHz make much difference?

I am using a 2GB GTX 670 with 8GB RAM BTW.

I am still waiting for the data to be delivered via carrier pigeon so I cannot test performance until it finishes downloading.

It would make very little difference to overclock 200MHz - I'm talking a few frames.

Your limiting factor here will be your GPU and it's low VRAM (if you want to play on Ultra).

I did, it's at 3.9~GHz currently. So in-game I am getting around 45+ in open world and 80 in doors.

What settings are those at? And the rest of your system too?

I was going to compare that against those graphs posted in this thread to see how you're shaping up with that OC but I can't see what testing was done, as in whether it was in or outdoors.

This is my settings for Ultra settings at 1080p on a single card. You don't need super sampling to make it look good. Super sampling just bogs down the framerate, and it's pointless unless you have SLI.

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB OC (1200/1800)

You need to download Sweet FX 1.5.1 Configuration
http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/

Download the Sweet FX Watchdogs preset. There are a few but I chose this.
http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/1675/

Load the watchdogs.exe on the Sweet FX configurator. Then load the preset. Some people might have trouble viewing the preset, but close it, and reopen it.

Once you see the preset configuration, simply click add sweet fx on the right column then save config.

Use the Reddit PC tweak guide here
http://www.reddit.com/r/watch_dogs/comments/26c3ew/deferredfxqualityconsole/

DeferredFXQuality= PC
PostFXquality = off
Resolution= 1920 x 1080
(Adjust to your liking)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After you are done with the settings, this is what you should have.

AA: OFF (Sweet FX has it's own SMAA)
AF: 16x (Through Nvidia Control Panel)
Ambient Occlusion: HBAO+ High
Shaders: High
Shadows: High
Everything else Ultra

You'll get at least around 45 AVG fps.

gtx 670, increased core clock to +154 on afterburner

i5 2500k at 4.2

I had to put most settings to medium except shaders which are on high, no aa and textures on high and get 60 fps like 95% of the time ( drops below 40 only when driving and turning a lot, which gets annoying)

Even at them settings the game looks pretty, nothing incredible or jaw dropping( except when it is night, raining, ground is wet and lighting occurs and you are looking down an ally, then it looks pretty jaw dropping)

It hurts so bad having a 780ti with only 3gb ram. Why, nvidia? Why?
1440p am cry.

I have
I5 3570k @ 4.5ghz
Asus dcuII 780ti 3gb
8gb RAM

All settings ultra with fxaa

With vsync off I hover around 50, give or take 10fps.

I resorted to playing with vsync 1 and its been locked at 30, while in some very rare cases dropping below that.
:(

What settings are those at? And the rest of your system too?

It was with 2x670s with all settings being set to High, temporal SMAA. I was aiming for medium settings at 60 FPS.

Using the low preset the FPS would go from 45 to 70 so there are settings that would definitely drop the load on the CPU to a more manageable level. At no point in time were the GPUs running above 75% max load with any of the settings.

I guess aiming for 35 with maximum quality settings is also an option.

  • i7-4770K 3.5GHz
  • GTX 780ti OC 3GB
  • 16GB DDR3 2400Mhz (Currently clocked at 1600)
  • Windows 7 x64
  • Driver 337.88

FPS ranges from 50-63 while driving around. Moves around from 61-75 when on foot and dips to the 50's on some rare occasions when there's a bunch of explosions going on.

Overall it's running pretty smooth aside from the stuttering which I'm hoping is cleared out a tad with the release later today. The random stuttering is the only thing that's bothering me right now.

  • 1080p
  • Everything set on Ultra
  • Temporal SMAA/TXAA 4x (I switch between the two depending on the setting)
  • HBAO+ (High)

Exact specs as me, awesome.

How do I properly lock to 30 fps? The "Adaptive (half refresh rate)" setting in the NCP doesn't work the way I want it to. Fraps shows 30fps, but it looks worse to my naked eye.

My rig:

i7 3770K @ 4.2 Ghz
Geforce 780Ti with slight factory OC
Display: 2560x1440

Graphics settings on Ultra preset, but I also raised Ambient Occlusion to HBAO+ Low.

Display settings are 1440p rez, High textures, Temporal SMAA, Vsync 1 frame, prerender 3 frames max.

I get a fairly solid 60 FPS indoors, outside the frame rate is between 50 and 60 while walking, between 40 and 60 while ina vehicle at high speed.

Outside, even with the drops to 50 the game feels responsive and fluid. On a car you get occasional, brief stuttering, almost like micro-stutter in some game engines with SLI on, but nothing too severe, and obviously happening on consoles as well, as evident on playthrough vids.

This almost disappears completely for me by bringing down the view distance a notch to high - but it's not worth it, so I left it Ultra.

Game is hella fun!

Vsync 2 will lock the FPS to half your refresh rate (so probably 30 FPS). You cna also set a framerate cap on GPU OC tools like afterburner or Precision X.

Late 2012 27" iMac

i7 3770 @ 3.4GHz
16GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz
GTX 680MX 2GB

I'm using the default settings for HIGH @ 1080p.

The frame rate is always above 30, and mostly in the mid 40's.

With it set on default ULTRA settings, It's mid 30's, and drops down to mid 20's for a quick stutter when driving.

I'm downloading it on my PC now.

i7 4770
16GB Corsair Vengeance
EVGA GTX 770 4GB

... and we'll see what kind of difference that gear makes compared to my iMac.

No stuttering at all? Even driving around fast?

I have an i7 3770k @ 4.4ghz, 16GB of ram, 2x GTX 780s in SLI and I get stuttering when driving around fast on ultra, even w/ the newest nvidia driver.
