sony responding seems like it won't be at the conference this year. there's no need to do that when they can leverage the rumour for impact at e3. in the same way that responding clearly to the ps4nodrm campaign was saved for e3 impact. tbh it sounds more like a 'god don't let the last guardian overshadow our months of careful preparation for e3' than something concrete about the game.

Did we ever find out much if substance about TLG before it went dark? Or have we spent the last five years building imaginary games in our heads that it will never live up to?

No, they responded because the rumor was spiraling too far out of control too fast. People were already calling for Yoshida to step down. You don't want bad press and people's hype deflated going into your biggest conference of the year. By responding the way they did, it keeps people's hype up for their conference.

That being said, I'm not saying TLG WILL be at E3, only that this rumor denying isn't any indication one way or the other.

No offense, but I, a very reputable source who is way better, smarter, handsomer, and less fat than IGN, says it is cancelled and everyone is like STOP TROLLING Y2KEV. IGN says it and there's a thread.

You people sometimes. Really. Oh look, Sony said it isn't. Can't wait for you to see NOTHING ABOUT IT tomorrow night. bububu TGS.

We need a compilation post for all these amazing gifs/vids coming out of this IGN Russia shit train.

Quite a lot about the game design can be derived from the trailers. Ueda said the design was finished long ago, so it seems like for the most part the game was finished, and the last couple of years have just been the porting process. I don't think people should expect a notably grander experience than they ever did.

So you still think it's cancelled?

It's nice of Sony brass to deny rumors, but these denials-- without concrete proof to directly refute them-- are losing their credibility.

Not that IGN is going to be proven right here, but at this point, there's more reason to believe them in this instance than a laughing Scott Rohde's denial.

Your plan to piss everyone at the tlg support group was hijacked by ign and their reporting, yoshida and rohdes uncancelled the game just to shit on them.

You have to wonder how far along they are and why they need (more than) a decade to make this game. Probably something similar that happened to MGR when it was still in the hands of KP. They have a vague idea for a game, but just can't execute it well and keeps going back to the drawing board. In this case they can't find help, because it's not a game that other dev teams have experience in.

We know they have spend millions of pounds and half a decade making this game. We know the game was moved to PS4. We know that Fumito Ueda is under contract to finish The Last Guardian...

On what planet, would cancelling the game be a sound idea?

That's not how it works. The burden of proof is on the accuser, not the accused.

Well I'm glad I took my friends advice and never played shadow of collasus long ago.

Last thing I heard before going to bed last night was the garnett on games podcast talking about this game.
Does he still invent his own words?
Sometimes I miss hearing a person say "conscientious" seriously. But not always.

At the end of may: "I looked into this, and at this point we’re not providing any additional clarification beyond what we stated around the PS4 announcement. If anything changes, I’ll be sure to keep you posted."-Sony Rep to Kotaku
http://kotaku.com/sony-wont-answer-these-questions-about-ps4-drm-and-use-510477281

Shuhei Yoshida at the end of February: "At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that."

People kept picking apart these answers to force an agenda that simply wasn't true.

When Sony realized what MS is doing, they saw an opportunity to blow minds at E3 and they took it.

Stop it.

It would be so stupid of Sony to keep insisting that it exists if it really has been cancelled. How does that benefit them in any way? It prolongs the agony with no reward. And when the truth comes out, we'll just hate Sony a bit more. Where is the positive? It doesn't make sense.

It's sad that we probably won't see this game ever and that we have to use our imagination how this game would have played if it was released for the PS4. I hope Sony is aware how many fans are angry with this news.

I believe you.

I think they haven't cancelled it.. but they're also not working on it. I think it's in development hell and will stay there.

We've been around and around this issue so many times, and neither side has been proven right. The rumors of cancellation are always countered by denials, but the denials haven't led to a damned thing either.

If it's not cancelled, great-- but there comes a time when more is needed than a "Ha, ha, ha... no it isn't." Quite frankly, neither side has any credibility at the moment.

If it was cancelled, they would have told us by now. Companies can't lie to potential customers, it's illegal. Either the game is still in development or it's been shelved, which a cancellation wrapped in PR speak.

Hasn't it been said to basically been in (slow) active development since the reveal? I mean even Ueda has said he's working on the game regularly, iirc.

Then Sony needs to do the communication with the world much better, because 3 friends of me are telling me that the Last Guardian is cancelled. So now they need to show something of Last Guardian for E3.

They read the IGN article didn't they?

Sony isn't going to adjust a marketing campaign because IGN ran bullshit. A lot of time and money goes into contriving exactly how to reveal a game for maximum sales. They are not randomly revealed when a publisher thinks a press outlet has backed them into a corner. TLG will be shown whenever Sony wants to show it, and if it is at E3, it was not forced by IGN's rumor.

Well the closest they've come to saying 'shelved' was when Tretton said it was 'on hiatus'. I believe that was then denied by Yoshida, who said it was never on hiatus and is in active development.

Ueda has said his creative work on TLG has ended.
