I mean, they're often almost naked and touch each other while half naked, because they are halfnaked. Swimming is a very clothless sport. The presantation of the posted free stuff is not very lewd. Leaving far less to the imagination than a wash of liquid latex, the seams of their bodysuits ride along their figures like high cut bikini lines. Fit so snugly as to reveal every curve and crevice, the disparity here makes one feel rather voyeuristic. To top it off, their outfits even come complete with built in high-heels! This absurdity is given even further undue attention by the many up close and cropped shots of the ship's most valuable assets.
And speaking of figures... It's rather easy to see that the male characters come in all shapes and sizes. Some characters are older, fatter, shorter, or taller. They even come in varying degrees of ugliness too (Dr. Sado)! While the entire female cast remains youthful, [REDACTED] little [REDACTED]s with beautiful faces, and ideal proportions. The only conclusion that can be made here, is that this truly, truly, sexism....

Never played any of the games in this series, and I know the anime focused a lot on the character-related aspects (that's a good thing! Play to the strengths of the medium), but I enjoyed it. It reminded me a lot of Blessing of the Campanella, with all the homunculi and the general friendly feeling of the magical world. One based more on commerce and exploration than questing, with very few actual villains. A more peaceful sort of magic. Still in a pre-industrial fantasy world, but it's got a warmth and heart that provides a nice alternative to a bunch of other things. I feel it plays to my interests a little more than Chaika did, and reminded me that Shining Hearts existed. I should probably check that one out sometime too, for a similar feeling of warm and fuzzy fantasy. Wilbell was one of my favorite of the cast, though Linca would be a close second.
And with that, my spring season comes to a close just in time for Glasslip and the TBS shows tomorrow.
Dude you haven't even reached the Benizakura Arc in Gintama yet, which is episode 58 soooo good. I would recommend you to continue the show because it's really special, but if you don't want to I won't force you.
Free Eternal Abs reminds me that these shows serve as idealized entries into homosocial circles more than anything else. In the same way that shoujo reverse harems allow me as a male viewer to understand the mechanics of gaze is a relatively guilt free way, Free really does let me look at the four/five girl shows in a way that allows me to be completely distant from any emotional (or admittedly hormonal) response.
I think the lack of a hormonal response may be distorting your point of view. Strip everything away from Free! and ask yourself what the emphasized relationship is. It exists between the viewer and the show itself. There is no absence of sexuality that exists inside of something like Free!, it simply redirects those thoughts in a way that directly targets the viewer. The characters that build up the show almost entirely avoid the acknowledgement of these blunt sexual displays. The focus is not on "cute boys doing cute things" because the show isn't based on the behavioral patterns of its cast, instead the drive of the show is to romanticize an idealized "male body" as a direct transaction for the viewer's pleasure.
The philosophies and practices of a show like Free! differ markedly from "cute girls doing cute things" shows like say, K-On or even Yuru Yuri, where the sexual contract between the viewer and the show are unsigned. Yuru Yuri has incredibly light undertones of sexuality that exist, but it isn't a direct interaction that targets the viewer's sexual desires specifically. Instead these implications follow a line of light romance that is supposed to alter the relationships between characters within the world.
I don't really think all of these shows can be placed under the same umbrella. Does Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? fill the same role as something like Free!? Of course not. I think it's potentially misguided to just mark off what appeals to fujoshi as being the same as shows that cater to men just because they can share certain pieces.

Heck I don't really have a problem with some of the free gifs that are slightly suggestive like the one of a character unzipping his pants where you can see his swim suit underneath.
What I have a problem with is the gifs or images that are simply ass or crotch shots, or gifs/images of the characters dry humping each other even if they're fully clothed.
In the same breath I don't mind pictures of cute/sexy girls in cut/sexy outfits and that isn't what the problem was, it's when it turns into overly sexual talk or conversation focusing on overly sexual parts that it turns into a negative. It's really all in context and presentation

I think that's a huge problem with Captain Earth. They basically tell you everything in the preview, then you wait for Adachi and friends to figure it out and it takes forever when it's so obvious.

Yamato is an amazing series but you raise a valid point that is often overlooked. The series has several notably embarrassing fan service shots that just weren't needed.....just like the heels and the girls wearing skin tight suits.
