Why the fuck are you guys posting all the Xbox 360 stuff, I'm pretty sure thats basic Source Engine Assists and not for Dota 2.

GAF, I can't decide if this is something I should shrug about or lose my shit about.

Decide for me.

Neither. Valve has put their new engine into the wild starting with Dota 2. They chose Dota 2 first most likely to give the custom map makers the new Source 2 tools.

Why no shrug? Because now we know Source 2 is ready for prime time. It's real, it's happening and being battle tested on their most popular game.

Why not lose shit? Because it's Valve and we probably wont hear about anything else until next year.

So you could go with a "Huh, cool."

I'm capable of losing my shit for a year.

With all the comments Valve made about Microsoft in the last 2 years and that their policies are very different, it would surprise me, when they are going exclusive Xbox. Gave criticized Sony alot for the PS3 and its architecture and Microsoft uses a bad architecture for the ONE. Furthermore Sony seems to be a lot more consumer friendly and open ( Network, Peripherals and so on) and this is what Gave Newell likes. Unless Microsoft opened a very big bank account I can't see Valve going exclusiv.

You can convert the new map source format (vmap) into a KeyValues 2 file using dmxconvert in dota_ugc/game/bin/win64/

Sounds like it'll be really easy for them to make the HL:Source equivalent for their old games. Maybe even like how they ported HL2 to the Orange Box engine, as an update.

i remember a valve rep saying they want to reach fans on as many platforms as possible

The games are coming.
The games with 3's are coming.

Nah, they're just doing this so they can slightly improve the hats in Team Fortress 2, keep Dota 2 going, and find more ways to sell unfinished, hardly functioning (nowadays often eternally "early access") indie games to their users for them to make excuses to justify the existence of.

Not really comparable. And unless you noticed, Valve and Sony kind of kissed and made up.

No way they are supporting Xbox One with the new engine. Gabe started a big war against Microsoft and its Windows, it would make no sense. Also, some time ago a NeoGaf user working for Valve leaked some screenshots of the Source 2 engine to cboat. That would probably mean bad news for Xbox One in relation to Source 2. I'd exclude support for it for now.

I wouldn't read too much into the "Xbox" stuff, it'ss just a general sign that Source 2 still has some controller- and console-oriented elements. Probably not an indication of any specific console project, and definitely not some Xbox-exclusive thing.

Please don't.

No. Dota 2 doesn't actually use it yet either if I have understood it correctly. Just the alpha of the newly released mod tools for DOta 2.

So DOTA2 is still Source 1, but since Source 2 is backwards compatible we can use the Source 2 Hammer to edit it?

At least you didn't mention Episode Four again; the game never existed. ;)

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?
Why did the Starcraft 2 "custom game" scene never flourish like it did in WC3/BW. Is that type of gaming scene is dead? SC2 Arcade is free too.

I hope DOTA 2 scene will pick up the custom games torch like the late 90s early 2000s...

"Custom" and "MOBA" are two words I'd like to never see together in a phrase.

(Also... Why are we talking about Blizzard here?)

Dota 2 is going to have map editors and all that, isn't it? Dota began as Warcraft 3 mod, and if Dota 2 gets tools for modding, it may take over the custom scene Warcraft 3 had but that doesn't flourish quite as well in SC2.
