Dunno if any of you guys saw it but I was asking about trading a dota 2 item for a knife a couple pages ago. Let me tell you it is near impossible to do it.

1) Trade 1 for 1 straight. X
2) Trade Dota item for money. Money for knife?
3) Thrade Dota item for keys. Keys for knife?

I had a rough go of it a few weeks back. Mine was mostly on the personal life side, but taking a break from my habits (including gaming) and chipping away at some new ones really was a major boon for reorganizing my headspace.

This isn't to say that you should or shouldn't, but just to give some insight on what helped bring some balance for me. Godspeed.

1) Looks like the best option, even though I'd be way overpaying.
2) I'm too worried of getting paypal charge backed to do this and would rather not go through the steam market.
3) I feel like this would be the best option for someone whose good at trading. But I really don't like the idea of sitting on keys.

edit: I wonder how many "Hi add my friend" messages I'll get.

How do I bet on matches? I've got a cs lounge account, but do I need specific equipment to enter? Also do you win money for your steam wallet or do you win new equipment?

On the lounge frontpage you pick a series on the right, then select a team and bet up to four items from your inventory. It's likely to not load for multiple reasons. First your Steam profile and inventory have to be set to 'public', then try reloading using the Community API (orange text on the left), if it still doesn't show try going to your profile, hit 'refresh' and 'add trade', if it loads there it should work in the betting screen as well.

Sometimes you'll still be out of luck due to the site being an all-around piece of shit, so always get your bets in early. When you finally manage to place one a bot will send you a trade offer on Steam. You can always switch teams and add additional items from your returns until shortly before the game starts. You can see your active bets on the 'my bets' screen, everything you win is stored there too and can either be reclaimed or bet on another match (this circumvents the bot queue so it's smart to keep skins you don't want in returns for future betting).

You win back skins based on the value you put in and the odds of the match in question.

You use weapon skins on lounge to bet on games. If you win, you get your skins back + some extra value, which depends on the odds. If you got any trouble, you can use the User's guide on their website.

Prolly going for a small underdoge bet on Faith with these kind of odds which I usually do when two lower tier teams go up against each other. It saves me from heartattacks and who know's... they might surprise us. :d

I once looked up the probabilities of getting a knife and apparently it's less than 1 percent.

The game we played on overpass last night was total domination, we went 7-8 on t side but once we got onto CT, shut the team down (aka did not let them win once). I'm pretty sure the nova's damage is tenfolded on that map. On no other map can I just walk onto site, do a 3 on 1 retake without batting an eye. It makes me want to name my gun but I am at a loss at what is worth $2 to rename it to.

I always cover the slot machine wheel with my hand whenever opening a case. I don't ever want to see a knife go by and not get it.

Well I watched Lirik (twitch streamer) open up 1500 usd worth of cases (cases + keys bought from steam market) and guess what, not a single knife lol. Also it was money that was donated to him for that purpose...That guy is obviously doing something right :p

So I've been having a debate with a friend and fellow CS:GO player lately as to whether or not de_dust is a good map from a design standpoint. I have been playing CS on and off ever since the early beta days of the original all the way through Source and now Global Offensive, so I'm arguing on the side of de_dust being a good map. He had never played a CS game a day in his life until recently getting into CS:GO, so he thinks that Dust 1 is merely a relic that only seemed worthwhile in a time before better maps were available.

So I thought I'd kick the discussion over to this subreddit to get some more input. Here are some of our points thus far in our debate:

My Arguments:

  • de_dust only dropped in popularity once de_dust 2 came along and improved upon it. Once the newer, better version was available people didn't want to return to the original as much. Thusly, its popularity has dwindled steadily over the years while Dust 2 remains the most played map in CS:GO.
  • If Dust 2 was never created, I think that Dust 1 would still be played regularly today.
  • Dust 1 is definitely a little CT sided, but other than that it succeeds from a design standpoint of having interesting choke points and paths to create exciting skirmishes. The added staircase under bridge that was implemented in CS:GO's version of de_dust is a noted improvement.
  • The bomb sites being so close together is unique to Dust 1. Very few official maps, if any, have this kind of bomb site placement relative to each other. This is neither good nor bad, necessarily. Just something worth pointing out as unique.
My Friend's Arguments:

  • Dust 1 isn't played much anymore because it's simply a poorly designed map compared to most of the official maps today like Inferno, Mirage, Nuke... etc. Dust 2's popularity has nothing to do with Dust 1's decline.
  • Dust 1 has too much wasted space, such as the entire half of the map near T-spawn.
  • Choke points are too cramped and favor one side over the other (I'm assuming CT).
  • The map's design doesn't allow for much variety in terms of approaches on the T side.

So that's what we've got so far. I look forward to hearing from players both old and new on this subject. It's very possible that nostalgia is clouding my judgment of this iconic map, but I also think that it's still a perfectly viable, well-designed map.

Original Dust was very hit and miss for me. If you played on a public server 8 times out of 10 the T side is too scared to push the tunnels and get stuck in the doorway.

The new CS GO version is fine for public/competitive in my opinion, the stairs in the underpass make it better and I wouldn't actually mind having it in the current competitive list. (militia and assault though, hoooooo boy)

I agree with your friend. Dust 1 is heavily CT sided. One of the bomb is in the CT spawn. CT can cover A and B easily with little manpower due to chokepoint designs. Usually B site is the way to win, but since smokes are so powerful this game, it is easy to lock down the T.

De Aztec is a similarly broken map with B being the only logical attack point, but CT will easily cover it from two vantage point, while T have only one logical rush spot, Double Doors. Don't expect to survive a bridge rush against a competant team.

Also tried Militia for the 1st time yesterday on Competitive.
Was actually pretty fun once our team got used to the map.

We were down 14-8 and came back to win it... XD
Def felt like a T sided map...

Have had to teach people how to play Mist.
Once they understood how vertical the map is, they had a lot of fun. (They hated it before)
(Also how fast you can get to any location)

Anyone watching "Tejbz" on twitch, some guy called Chubby just gave him a Slaughter - Bay and then tried to give him 4 other knives, one being a fade...

He declined the 4 other knives though, morals....
