Rushy reveals Driveclub's car list

Has there been actual confirmation that future DLC will include cars from American and Japanese companies? I mean, I would assume yes, but I also would have assumed they would be included in the original game!

Google Driveclub Japanese Cars. Can't link the site though.

if you want to play 1000+ cars in a game, you always have GT.
It has far better selection than anything else.

DC focuses on latest cars and mostly supercars. Thats the whole point of the game.

I might accept that if they had a Lamborghini. I mean if you are going to focus on supercars, you gotta have Lamborghini. And yes, every other game has Lamborghini. But that's cause there are a decent amount of us who think Lamborghini is a must. And to say supercars are the whole point of the game and leave out one of the most well known ones... sorry, it's still lacking by that criteria.

What? I planned to get the SP irregardless, no harm for me. I much rather have a great looking game with great looking cars, than a whole bunch of average looking cars in an above average game (won't name names so I don't offend).

Now, if DC doesn't end up looking like Infamous as a racing game, we got a problem.

Yeah, but for me it's an absolute dealkiller to be honest (even more so than the Microtransactions which I do try to make a point of at least trying to avoid games with them, I already wanted to not buy it over that but I admit that is something I could get over if the game was good enough). That's the first thing I look for in a racing game, what Lamborghinis does it have. And adding it as paid DLC won't make it better cause that just means it's more expensive to actually get the cars I insist on it having.

I'll just hope for another driving game to scratch that itch.

What micro transactions are there in DC? You buy the full season pass or the ones they release separately - the full season pass representing a 66% saving on the cost of buying separately. So far as I'm aware you can't buy individual cars.

Not only that, but PS+ only users still get an additional 8 cars, all the track updates associated with India and the weather & photo modes.

Plus - you'd miss a great playing game because it doesn't have one kind of car? Wow. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.

He probably means build quality.

You get what you pay for.
He could mean that. Regardless, reliability in American cars hasn't been an issue for two decades... the interiors are just very plastic-heavy.

Well worth the money for reliability and performance.

Wouldn't surprise me if Forza Horizon 2 bought the rights. Can't understand why there aren't any Lambos.
Yea, I wouldn't doubt it either. Seems like an odd omission otherwise.

But seriously no American or Japanese vehicles?

Count on DLC with vehicles themed for those markets. "Super American Muscle Pack $4.99 :/ not even the Stingray?

http://m.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1102_2012_ford_mustang_boss_302_test/

This $40,000 American car will beat an Audi R8 and BMW M3 around Laguna Seca and do 0-60mph in about 4 seconds.

You're half right. The fastest R8 time is a good 4 seconds faster than the fastest Boss time. The fastest cars on Laguna Seca are US cars though with an assortment of Euros and GTRs and Lexus LFAs, which makes it all the more puzzling why there is only one US hyper car and no Jp cars in the launch lineup.

Gonna hope a Viper GTS-R makes it in a DLC... my all time favorite in GT and the greatest car for making powerslide turns (and the awesome torque to accelerate out of them)

Have they revealed any of the car models in DLC?

Why are the BMW 135, 235 and Merc A45 AMG in the sports class? They are hatches. Very hot but still hatches. The 235 I can kind of give a pass too as its a coupé but the 135 and A45? No, the models were conceived to get both manufacturers in to the medium family hatch market.

Lots of BMW's have issues. My friend has had 3 and treated them like baby's because of the issues that can arise.

Don't even ask my BF, an aerospace engineer who also knows a lot about car repair, what he thinks about BMWs. I had one once that he worked on. I got to hear about all the really bad design flaws that could have easily been done better on that car and how it was designed like a piece of crap and designed to be really annoying to work on. And in general he likes german cars. He liked the car until he actually had to work on it. And from what he explained to me, I can't say that I am impressed (things like overcomplicated venting system and making designs that made it hard to get to anything when you easily could have designed it differently, have it work just as well, and be easy to access to things. At one point some electronic piece they had was designed in a way that made it easy to break and even I could understand the issue with it <- they apparently glued the contacts to long metal pieces rather than short ones which made it easier for them to break off when apparently that piece on any other car did it on shorter metal contacts <- I'm not an engineer, that is about my understanding and i don't remember what piece it was but I can understand that longer metal pieces break easier than a short metal piece).

Yeah, if I ever want him working on my car, I'm not allowed to get another BMW.

47, according to IGN.

But there you'll find the obligatory GT-R, the usual Chevy/Dodge/Ford soapboxes
don't shoot, I'm just kidding!
, and some Porsches.
Did rivals have tuning? I have it but it's in my backlog. If nfs rivals only had 47 cars and no tuning I'd be pretty shocked.

Yes. But then?

DriveClub is not Need For Speed.
IIRC, the reason why there's no mechanical tuning in DC is to make sure everybody has the same chances.

Also, I can't understand all the people saying they won't buy/play this game just because it's missing their favorite car/brand.
Such an idiotic argument.

But well, it's a DriveClub thread, so what did I expect?

Well I guess it is fair enough that if someone loves a certain brand or car that they'd want to play it. On the flip side, it is probably unlikely that there'd be more than 50 cars so all you'd be doing is potentially replacing someone else's desirable car with your own. So you're not going to make everyone happy.

Racing games tend to do strongest in Europe, and they have to start from somewhere so I don't think it is too ridiculous to start with your stronghold.

To skip a game over it would be a bit stupid, and to me says you're not interested in the game that much if that's your deciding factor - like the guy who said they're skipping the game because there is no assist to turn on or off. Skipping a game because you can't turn ABS on or off? Yeah you were clearly unable to contain your excitement waiting for this game to release.

Only 30 FPS? Skipping!
Not open world? Skipping!
Doesn't have Nissan? Skipping!
No assist toggles? Skipping!
Hash tag used in marketing? Skipping!

Of course, every single engineer is better than every engineer working for BMW. And every modern car is hard to work on, welcome to 2014 with way too much electronic and way too less space between the parts.

That has nothing to do with the build quality of those cars, because you cant compare it to an early 90's car and how easy those were to repair.

This is a bit off-topic but no way are BMWs poor quality, especially compared to American cars. German motors are the best in the world, alongside some Japanese manufacturers.

No Lamborghini is strange. No way MS hogged the rights to Lambo after Dan Greenawalt cried about EA hogging Porsche...

Dan Greenawalt did not cry. In fact, t10/ms let go of the exclusive Ferrari contract ms had.
He even made a statement about it in some interview, and the importance that manufacturers are not kept from games.
Then, we had that EA presentation where that dude from Ghost (former criterion) was gloating in front of the big screen showing a 458 saying "We welcome Ferrari back to Need for Speed"
So my educated guess says microsoft has nothing to do with this.

oh, and Porsches are missing from everything else that it isn't NFS rivals, because ea still hangs on to the porsche deal.
So its not surprising at all that are missing in Driveclub too. In fact including those RUFs is the best possible alternative action Evo could do.

If they want roughly Porsche shaped cars in the game they really have no choice.

Ruf are considered a distinct manufacturer and not a simple tuner by the German TUV, their cars have VIN plates with a Ruf (WO) and not Porsche (WP) designation and are registered as such.

All other tuned Porsche are simply that, a tuned Porsche and your registration docs will still list the manufacturer as Porsche, not Gemballa or Techart or anything like that. Even Singer cars keep their original VIN.

On topic, the length of the list shouldn't be an inherent problem but there are a number of significant exclusions and in contrast a few that did make the cut that add nothing of note.

Still looking forward to trying the PS+ version though.

EA holding the Porsche rights wouldn't be so bad if they actually used it.

Rivals 5
Most Wanted 4
Hot Pursuit 10
Shift 5
Shift2 9

Meanwhile Forza 4 Porsche pack had 30!

Not really.

Why would someone buy a racing game that didn't have the cars they wanted to drive? That's a pretty big part of the genre.

Who would want to only drive -say- Lamborghinis or Mustangs?
Because the fact one says "no <insert favorite car/brand here>, no buy" basically means "I have zero interest in other cars".

BS. It can also mean that they like other cars but there is one that is a dealbreaker on whether it has it or not. I'm one of those people you are talking about. I also love Porsches and Lotus's but I'm sorry, no Lamborghini, no buy (and it doesn't help that I already wanted to not buy it due to the MT's though that I would have been willing to compromise on if the game was good enough). I ultimately get these games to drive the cars I could never in real life, and for me the Lamborghini is the ultimate of those cars.

Not to mention it also doesn't have the cheap everyday cars (Which I actually do love that GT has that. Hell, I think it's great I can actually drive my car in GT, a 2003 Toyota Celica). In fact, that's one of the things i love about GT, the very wide selection of cars. So here's some one who loves a wide selection of cars who is not buying due to DriveClub not having one particular brand... so what does that say about your theory?

Um, first of all, it was a 1984 BMW 325e... welcome to not everyone has a brand new cars (there is no way in hell I could even afford a new BMW). So, yeah, it's a lot less complicated than a 2014 BMW (30 years older). It's simpler than your 90's car you are saying I can't compare it to with how easy they are to repair cause they are simpler. Also, do you have so little faith in BMW that you think a newer car by them would already have so many issues that some guy trying to work on it was fed up with it?

And yes, I trust his assessment on these things. He's very smart, he has definitely shown he is very competent. I've known him for 15+ years and I've seen the stuff he does and he does very good work/design work. When he does something, he does it well. He's built his own little chip for one of his cars to increase performance and he knows a lot about electronic stuff (he at one point said he should have gone into EE because there's more selection of jobs. Granted, I am obviously not an engineer but I'm smart enough to at least understand his explanations of stuff when he does the "explain it like I'm 5" (He doesn't mind explaining stuff to me either. My problem is I can understand it but I tend to just remember the generalities and not specifics so ask me to explain later and I'll be able to say that what I can remember is the end result and the explanation made sense so I trust the end result is right but I can't tell you the explanation why cause I forgot). I can tell you the air venting on it constantly broke because it had a very complicated system of doing it that my BF pointed out there was a lot simpler system that would have worked just as well (and the more complication you bring in the more things can break). The electronics on it were sh** (hell, even BMW fanatics told me the reason 3 series keep their value better than 5 or 7 series was because less electronics on it to break). By the time we sold that car the windshield wipers would variably work, I think the only thing on the dashboard that worked was the tachometer and we tried replacing the dash several times and it took three or four tries to find a dashboard that didn't have the instruments broken. The first year we had the car it had some obscure electrical issue that would randomly show up and then disappear. I'm amazed he managed to find it finally (it caused the car to randomly stall on me for a bit and then it would work for a few months before doing it again). Apparently the way they put in the clutch/transmission system was done in a way to require a special part to reach certain parts (he ended up making his own tool to get to it) but could have easily been designed differently and worked just as well and been easier to work on that stuff. And some electronic chip he showed me had the prongs that connected really long (he said longer than any other car does). ANd I can understand that the more length you put on something the easier it is to break (more leverage for something to put pressure on it). And it broke.

Oh, and he designs those planes you fly on so you better hope he's better than a BMW engineer :p.

So was NFS shat on for such a "small" number?
Don't know exactly but I think there wasn't such a reaction to the NFS Rivals carlist. NFS games never had big carlists. Also NFS Rivals isn't a big exclusive racing title and wasn't a year delayed.

If it makes you feel better I purchased NFS Rivals when it was on sale and haven't spend a single dime on extra cars or other content.

I work with all types of cars. Most cars nowadays have very plasticy interiors. Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes have tons on plastic in there interiors!

Personally I favour track number and variety over number of cars. Once you're in the cockpit there isn't an enormous difference assuming the various drive trains are covered. Lack of track variety is the main factor impacting a racing games longevity, and thus value.

That sucks, in general German engineering far surpasses American.

I work with many new German cars, as well as American and Japanese. German cars have just as much plastic as any other car and actually more mechanical issues in my experience. I would never own a German car unless I was leasing one every couple years. You don't get what you pay for.

I have the feeling you never intended to buy this game anyway, but okay.

I had no intention of buying the game before trying the ps+ version as yes, I wanted to try it first especially as I would get the chance. Also, when I heard it had MTs my intention was to try not to buy unless it was too good to pass up (and I believe I said that in my post). But yes, this was a game I would have considered buying (even more so before the MTs). Driving games have always been a staple of my gaming.

But congratulations on 1. Assuming something so you could discount what I said (and assuming wrong), 2. Using faulty logic that doesn't discount what I said even if it was true (whether I was going to buy the game or not doesn't discount that some one not buying the game over lack of one brand could still have interest in other cars but have one brand that is a deal killer if the game doesn't have it), 3. Ignoring the points I brought up and instead focusing on me to try to disprove me through ad hominem attacks.

Downside: There's only 50 cars, & most of them are European cars.

Upside: They have a lot of better quality in exchange for lesser cars.

If there's a 2nd DriveClub game, I'd like to see them add more American cars & Japanese cars on top of the 50 cars that we have now.

Edit: On another note, is there a full list for the vehicles of Gran Turismo that's similar to what cool_dude had done?
