Dragon Age: Inquisition |OT| As the Blight fades, BioWare returns

It seems odd, the focus on the chantry on Inquisition. It was ok as background noise and an occasional plot point in earlier Dragon Ages, but I would never have brought it front and center for the final game.

Er it's not the final game. This isn't a trilogy. It's just an ongoing series with some connections between each story.

My 2h warrior only had two active skills from the 2h tree, Mighty Blow and Whirlwind. Taunt + Charging Bull was always enough guard generation for me. My other four skills were the reaver skills. I was unstoppable.

I feel kind of out of place talking about MP here but I'm all over the place with the classes. I thought I'd stick with one, but I'm leveling pretty much all of them and prestiging them too. The only ones I haven't touched are Templar, The Katari, and Necromancer. The ones I tried I love playing. Crazy. Got all of their tier 3 armors, and a nice weapon for them (thank goodness gear don't bind to them outside of armor and weapon upgrades.

My exact problem with the game
In terms of narrated quests with a plot, there are basically none outside the Main plot.
The game suffers a lot. It's not even close to what Dragon Age Origins achieved in terms of questing.

The game is huge true, but it's 70% fetch quests and MMO quests

Most of the areas have reasonably long detailed quests with plenty of plot. They just lack for character interaction. But there is an evolving story happening in almost every area that you can resolve and the resolutions often have material impacts on the state of the zone.

In DA:O there was quite a few direct character interactions in sidequests but they weren't long and they had almost no material impact on the game outside of the quest itself. And do people seriously not remember the huge number of Mage Collective, Chantry Board, etc quests that had even less story or context than the worst of the "MMO fetch quests" in DA:I?

Yes, DA:I has plenty of collection style quests but if you just stick to the main quests, character subquests, and core quests in each region of the game then there is still just as much content as most of their other RPGs (including DA:O) and you will still get enough Power to move the story as needed. Don't like collecting shards or closing fade rifts? Then don't do them. It will not impede you from finishing the game or seeing the other "quality" content.

I will never understand why people put DA:O on such a pedestal for sidequests. I love the game but the sidequests were lacking and uninspired. With a few exceptions, Bioware burned through all of their good sidequest material in BG2 and have been on fumes ever since in that department.

I really like Necromancer, and Katari is fun just for the charge/mighty blow combo. I have a hard time finding a place for Templar, since Legionnaire is a better tank and Reaver and Katari are better DPS warriors. I guess she's good against demons...

Not necessarily. It never popped for me: What Pride Had Wrought spoilers:
you need to be the one to drink from the Well so that you tame a dragon to fight against Corpyfish's dragon. I had Morrigan drink and be the dragon and it never popped. Perhaps it's a bugged trophy like the dragon slayer one, though.

There's no guaranteed way which is why BW is having trouble replicating it, but the two fixes that seem to work for the most people are 1: never fast travel from world map, always from War Table, and 2) completed quests can still for whatever reason be flagged as new, hover over them in your completed journal to mark them as read and then when you exit you'll have a bunch of quests completed. After that people have said people started talking regularly.

So in other words don't play the game at all until 6 months now when they finally fix the broken mess they released?

Templar is a fantastic offtank who wrecks Demons and Mages (with the right passive). Lots of buffs, debuffs, and CC; Wrath of Heaven is great, and Spell Purge + upgrade will oneshot most barrier'd enemies.

Templars are nuts against demons in multi. That wrath of heavens or w/e it's called does so much damage.

Yikes.

The multiplayer is a piece of shit on PC.

Its like every bad trope from last generation shoehorned into Dragon Age; peer-to-peer connections, bohica micro-transactions, XP grinding for basic abilities, tons of useless loot to collect throughout and a fucking sprint button. Fuck this.

To each his own I guess. The microtransactions are completely optional and because of them there will be free DLC, I wouldn't really call playing the game grinding, the useless loot can be broken down and turned into armor and weapon upgrades, and why is a sprint button suddenly the end of the world? Oh, and did you really expect them to pay for dedis on the Dragon Age MP?

You can skip that fight entirely with a high enough court approval.

Bit late for that now. My last save is before the fight so I can go back to it but no way I'll be able to muster up enough court approval.

The fight itself is legitimately crap. Has to be some reliable tactics to beat her broken ass.

Thinking I might have the banter glitch, I tried that one potential fix where you fast travel somewhere from the war table.

Sure enough, I then fast travelled to Val Royeaux and heard that music for the first time and now going around the Hinterlands, I'm actually getting banter.

Kind of makes me frustrated that we still haven't heard anything about the patch, only because of bugs like this, its making me wonder what else is bugged and I might not even realize it.

Edit: Hmmm... I'm hearing a whole bunch of sound effects in combat that I never heard before too. Damn.

One thing that has surprised me with the MP is the level of teamwork I've seen when playing with randoms. Sure, you'd get a game every now and then where someone foolishly tries to be a lone gunman, but for the most part everyone sticks together and plays their rolls.

Watch out though, some folks had it revert back to the bug after a while so keep in mind how long the last time you heard banter from time to time...

Thanks to it I just stopped playing until they release a fix for it, feels like I'm gonna be waiting for a while... :(

They already confirmed no changes to banter in first patch. They haven't even reproduced the problem

Yeah, I haven't put in any significant time with the game in over a week, hoping they'd have the patch out soon. I guess I'll grind away in the Hinterlands and Storm Coast for a bit.

Hopefully they get the patch out this week, otherwise they'd be closing in on a month with no patch and not even much news about the patch. Sucks.

Yeah. Still, its BS. The banter is a huge part of a BioWare game and its seemingly not working as intended for a good number of people. I get banter every once in a while even before the fast travel semi-fix, but it still seems way too sparse compared to Origins or DA2.

The banter bug and how it seems tied to the music not really firing often makes me think if its just a deeper issue with Frostbite. I recall having many wonky sound bugs playing BF4.

So last week I respecc'd Vivienne.

Iron Bull actually commented on her switch from Fire to Ice.

"So.... you're... Ice now? I mean, that's cool and all. I don't judge."

Yesterday, I respecc'd her again.

And Iron Bull asked her what her problem was.

I still don't understand how these things made it past QA.

Whoa. Really? That's awesome :)

Unrelated, but I think it's cool that the cinematic tools work in the equipment screen. Got a close-up of Blackwall and one of my mage wearing some decent armor.

Not a huge fan of the male mage armors though. Kinda wish I made my character female.

So, just how rare are schematics in the multi? I feel like I've bought a ton of items and I can't use any of them at all.

That's brilliant.

So I just played 3 hours. Went up 1 level. Progressed none of the main story and generally feel not much happened. Oh and I had the no one wants to talk bug unless you mash all the buttons bug occur at least 10 times in one series of conversations.

I think after 26 hours of playtime I need to take a break from this game, play a few shorter games and cone back when a patch or two has come out.

Something else I think is weird: The Crafting Menu.

Seriously, if I'm trying to craft a weapon like a sword, having the info at the bottom left of the screen saying

"Low Armor Value (Staff Enchantment: Electricity)"

is really goddamn confusing. Like, I don't understand what any of that has to do with this sword I'm about to craft.

Holy hell I just bought a PS4 with an Inquisition copy and the difference between the PS4 and PS3 version is humongous. O______________________________O

Restarting from the beginning again as an Elven female mage.

A question: in order to successfully romance someone, you're not required to hit all the love notes on conversation wheel, right? Because flirting with someone that you just barely know at the beginning seems really off.

The bard just started playing
the main theme from Origins
...Incredible, I wish you could go up to her and select what song she plays.

I kinda stopped doing story missions and went specifically with side quests... Got to level 21 and I'm about to start
"What Pride Had Wrought"
... Hopefully I'm not too OP.

Already wanting to start a second playthrough as an evil Qunari warrior... or maybe an evil dwarf rogue... So many choices.

So yeah, Thousand Cuts? Completely broken. I don't mean flask of fire, obviously that's broken and a bug. I mean just using it at focus 3, regardless. I one shot Sandy Howler(the lvl 20 dragon in Hissing Wastes), I'm too lazy to go unlock the dragons in Emprise just to check but since he was dead when I was only about 2/3 done with Thousand Cuts and I don't even have the best gear or superb dragon slaying enchant, I have no doubt I'd one shot these too.

Part of it is how easy it is to stack damage% modifiers, how easy it is to get 100%crit and +100%crit damage as a rogue, as well as 70%armor pen. But most of it is really just how stupid the damage the ability does. 38hits at 400%weapon damage(with a ring) is like, derp balance levels.

Yeah when I specced Tempest I had an interesting conversation about it with him in skyhold.
