Still not a perfect run but hell I'm exhausted.

And the Mono Evo challenge on Sinclair.

Damn, that sucks... and is kinda funny, honestly. But I agree that private lobbies would be good. And does no one play cockpit view?
Private lobbies would be good because you would be able to remove the troublemakers.

I don't use cockpit view because I'm slower when I use it. Bizzarre creations knew about this, and in PGR4 they added the option to create cockpit view only games. This way everybody races with the same handicap.

Yah private lobbies is a wierd thing to have left out, personally i likely wont touch the online until that happens.

Can´t wait to get the season pass next week. :)

I find i love their dash cam even more than regular cockpit.

Yep, sorry I'm at work. Won't be back at the ps4 for another 9 hours. Feel free to join another, I know it's a pain when you just want to jump in.

Nice... gives me time to really work on those beginner times. :p

I guess not 'cause I had a very limited time with SOCOM2 back then.

No worries; I thought the name looked familiar, though.

Of course private lobbies would make sure everyone was on his/her best behavior. Does Evo have a report function?

I think I drive better with cockpit view for some reason. And I normally hate that view. :shrug Granted, it has been at least a console generation since I played a racer.

These two new packs are brilliant. Really enjoying the variety of cars we're getting as well in terms of handling and "feel". Just hoping there are Lambos on the way!

Ugh, these Evo challenges have proven to me how much i suck lol. Gonna keep at it though!

For those that have tried the A45 AMG challenge, do you gotta e-brake the first few corners? I cant seem to get in a good flow through there and lose a lot of time.

I would love if this game had private lobbied and, for the sake of dreaming big, staggered starts by the time the PS+ version comes out. Staggered starts make for so much more civilized races.

Had a good session tonight. SoGood.gif

Rushy, give your team a few extra Xmas beers or something. They really deserve it, man.

And my vote for OT 3's title, by far, is DRIVECLUB | OT3 | THUNDERSTRUCK

I just had another idea: DRIVECLUB |OT3| The power of lots of clouds
or
DRIVECLUB |OT3| The power of dynamic clouds

the first race in "elements" is ...something

I mean , it starts dry and then some thunder far away , then it starts to rain and everything changes...*

Loving it./

I'm not great on that challenge but I found the e-brake didn't help much. The key to it i think is to try to group the bends.

If you get on the gas too early in the first bend it pushes you wide for the second and third unless you really slow down - so stay wide and apex late at the first so you have room to take the 2nd without much more than a tap on the brake. The third is another 180 so again stay wide, apex late and try to sweep through the 4th without braking as its a long drag up the hill so losing any speed here hurts your time a lot. All the other bends I was taking flat out with just a tap on the brake (whilst keeping the accelerator mashed) to tighten the line if it was drifting wide. Hope that makes sense & helps!

And the Mono Evo challenge on Sinclair.

You actually see my ghost overtake you just at the start of the final straight but your line was faster. Your driving style looks smoother than mine and you seem to go more for maintaining speed rather than hitting every apex - certainly made a difference on the big double apex turn after the chicane at the top of the hill.

WTF is this jargon?

WTF is this jargon?
Apex = the exact middle of the turn. All things being equal you want to brake into the turn, hit the apex and then accelerate out of the turn. To hit the apex of a turn start on the outside of the turn (right side if it's a left turn, and vice versa), brake as you approach the apex (which will be the very inside of the track, left side if a left turn and vice versa) in as straight a line as possible, then accelerate out of the turn after you hit the apex- depending on what's coming up ahead, you generally want to accelerate while going back to the outside of the turn (again, right side if it's a left turn.)

Do we have a list anywhere of bits we'd like to see added? I mean outside of mo cars, mo tracks, etc?

  • 3:2 frame in photo mode and less restrictions on how far away from the car I can move
  • hide challenges that I don't have the car to enter
  • hide friends who haven't booted the game from the screen where I issue challenges (maybe above lvl 0)
  • using the search box for sending challenges, it would be good if we could use wildcards, or it looked for that string within a name. If you search for clubs with GAF in, not all show up for example.
  • rally, obvs, with pace notes read out
  • seeing the next fastest ghost and outright fastest ghost rather than just yours and the fastest.
  • in challenges that take part in a race, give me sector times to my human competition rather than the AI rolling roadblocks.

Got the game today and joined a club GAF EU, is that a Neogaf club :D?

Either way, I had quite some fun so far with the game. Later racers are getting quite hard for me though (especially beating all those lap times).

Big shot/less (no?) compression mode. Perhaps that will come in line with the mobile app?

There was a great book that came with (I think) the Forza Motorsport 3 LE box? Man, it was SUCH a good read and full of real-world driving techniques that could easily apply to Driveclub.

Just picked this up. Even after seeing all the videos and gifs it's still blowing my mind to see it run in real-time and look this damn good. Need to figure out all the ins and outs of the driving model, and I definitely need to learn the tracks.. I can already tell I'm too slow and hesitant on unfamiliar ground.

should've just asked here... but any update on the DriveClub APP?

I beat some times last night, and I want to know if anyone beat my times.....without turning on the PS4.

Online it'd be great to have
  • Level & Club name in the lobby - at the mo you have to click on each name to find out what your up against.
  • No. of 1sts, podiums and races stats available
  • The results screen show Club name.
  • Positions gained / lost indication - sometimes going from a tenth place starting grid to 3rd by the finish is a greater achievement than starting and finishing in 1st.
  • Winning odds - I'm not a betting man but it'd be nice to see if your the favourite for the win, or if you can beat the stats and win as a rank outsider.
  • It'd be fantastic if there was a way of stopping the weaving and deliberate ramming without punishing the genuine mistakes but I don't know of any racing game yet that's managed it.

Missed a [/list] mate hehe

Also I forgot, Leagues! 5 GAF Leagues, teams entered based on voodoo science, points for challenges and then every week or 2 2 clubs get promoted/relegated. Wouldn't take too long for the top dogs to be fighting it out in the Premier league while us Dagenham and Redbridge lit can fight over the scraps at the bottom.

Hm... I felt the AI in the Redline Trophy event wasn't as challenging as in the other DLC Trophy events. Or even as challenging as it was in other Redline races, for that matter. Anyone else felt the same?

what! that car is sticky - but you need to take into account the lack of engine braking, given no gears when making turns. smooth driving with this car can be fast

Lack of engine braking?!?

Take it for a fast lap round the first BHR circuit in the wet and come back to me!

Anyone else think the camera is too far back in the full cockpit view? I would like it to be a few inches forward so I can see the actual track better.

No, e-brake won't help you, it will hurt you. Except for the first corner, you don't need hardly any braking at all. Lifting of the throttle will do most of the work.

Getting close to first place now.

No you silly dog that's not your ghost :) But I get you, I always fuck up on the last sector.

You can still try to beat me, a nice touch about challenges is that our times get uploaded on the time trial leaderboards by default.

I just forwarded a challenge someone sent me to all the GAF clubs and EVO. RUF CTR3 Clubsport, in the rain, and the dark, on Los Pelambres reversed. A hateful hateful drive, IMO lol.

There are some cracking challenges floating about at the mo, having a lot of fun trying to beat DHC-Shannow!

Yeah, for some reason I thought you were new so I started your audi one and was all confident and then you obliterated me.

Then I saw on other challenges that you were fighting with shannow, and he was fighting with Vaga!

Into the distance you go!

Got a lot of years of PC sim racing behind me, so I am not new to racing games, but even so, this game is a little way removed from a "sim", so there is still a learning curve for me, and I am not as fast as many on DC!!

Umm... teach me! Seriously, tips?

Teaching with just words isn't easy, but I will try.

Best way to train is to use the tour event, because for the easier one, you don't need to worry about the brake, only throttle and ebrake.

Go into a drift section ( or even before ), steer and tap the ebrake. This start the drift. From there, you control it with steering ( turn in direction of the corner ), and counter steer ( opposite direction ), and throttle. In more powerful car, you will need the brake, as you easily reach speed exceeding what is needed for a corner.

The most important part is to "feel the drift". If you drift at full throttle, it will be longer, but you may hit the outside wall. Throttling ( I mean, ease your foot off the accelerator ) means shorter and sharper drift. Of course, you should manage your throttle during the drift. Most of the the time I go full throttle, but there are few exception depending on the corner.

When attacking a drift section, I start from the outside. Most of the drift are just one time steer and you could let go of the stick/wheel from there, with a bit of counter steer at the end if needed. Ideally, you should do this! ( it's really possible in Driveclub )

http://youtu.be/wZiLf-8FwD8?t=1m13s

Special case are long curves and chicane. Those need high speed and you need to steer during the whole drift. I just go with some tap of the stick.
Also there are some drift section where you need a double drift, in the opposite direction. Most important part in doing that, is the timing of when to start the second drift.

Here are some example.
http://youtu.be/AQJA-tms0fQ

All Britain Drift event. I use the McClaren 12C. Note that first drift you can get more points but I needed more speed. Second section, I need to have around 200km/h, else I can't drift during the whole section. Bit of steering, ebrake, and I steer, steer, but little by little with several tap of the stick during the 6 seconds of the drift. Also, I go full throttle IIRC. Last corner I also steer several time during the drift, though I'm a bit more frank there. In fact, I steer more when I feel that my drift is going to end.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0Lqo1obPHo
Limited Slip drift event.
First section: I brake, throttle, steer, and counter steer at the end.
Second section: full throttle, steer, and counter steer at the end.

Third section is trickier as it's a slight curve ending with a 90° corner. Going full throttle, I steer until I have the good direction. This is done in the first half/third of the drift, then I counter steer until the end where I adjust the angle to exit the section.

The remaining sections are like the second ( with some throttling if needed ), except the last which is more like the third section.

There you go. I hope it can help you.
