DRIVECLUB |OT2| You Can't Rush Evolution

I just sent a challenge. The first two corners were pretty good, but I fucked the final one up something awful. lol

Writing down all that goes through my mind while doing a drift is hard lol.

I forgot that challenge. So yes, your two first drift were quite good and that's what I would do without some training on that track. It's possible to get more points on the first by overtsteering a bit more.

Second, you need to take even more the outside and less straight. You want your car to already be in the good angle to attack the corner. At the start I brake a little bit, then throttling and counter steer is needed in the middle of the corner;

As for whether it's possible to do this in one clean drift, the answer is yes, and sadly you won't see it on my ghost but I recorded it, with 3000 points. Gotta upload later ( I didn't validate the ghost because last drift ended in a spin and I don't want to teach bad drifting )

Last drift, you will see my ghost putting the front wheels in the dirt of the corner lol. It's not necessary. For this corner you need to brake at the begining of the drift, steer and counter steer when you have the good angle. Refer to my ghost for angles.

HOLY CRAP, just managed to get under 1:20 on Venom Hot Lap 2! :D I'M SO HAPPY!

Which is funny, since I'm still missing that 3rd star on the original Venom Hot Lap.

Anyone have any tips on leveling?

I'm around level 37 or 38. I know about looking at accolades and whatnot.

If you just want to power level you can do a few things.

1. Set up a 11 player race on a track like Autodroma (sp?) on one of the higher difficulty settings for only 1 lap. If you can manage to pass everyone by the end (which only takes about a minute) you will end up with about 20k points. Then just race it over and over again.

2. Go do a time trial and just practice your drifting in every corner. If you are good enough you can regularly get 1-3k points per turn resulting in about 8-10k points per lap depending on the track.

You will still get accolades during this to increase the amount you earn.

Tried a few challenges from the far chase cam this morning. Tracks felt soo sloowww compared to bumper cam. Felt like I had much more time to pick a line and of course being higher up I could see more too.

Still not sure about it long term.

Which is why I think I need to give the other views a shot, but driving with the cockpit view is so freakin' intense! Such a rush!
Give the dash view a shot. Its a decent balance between that behind-the-wheel feel while still giving you a wide view of the road. It's an adjustment, but has worked well for me at times.

Ha, try bumper cam on some of the insane high speed wet tracks.

It's like someone's peeling back your face. Just so fast at times.

Ok, i just have to say it.....this is the best racing game i have ever played! (This position was previously held by Waverace 64). I am truly amazed by what Evolution has created here.

Man.

Fuck that Alpine Hot Lap. Fuck it straight in the ear, this car has no grip at all, none.

Edit: yeah I give up. I don't think I'll bother finishing the tour mode now, this isn't enjoyable to even try to beat. I'd only just bought the season pass too :(

Do the breaking in a straight line. On turn in off the brakes and slow down on the engine. Once past the apex power on: slow in -> fast out. The last S turn has some nasty bumps in the road that will upset the car before you turn in. Slow down on that part although it feels not natural. Good luck and keep on trying. It's part of the charm of this game.

I actually just beat it, moments after having a severe tantrum with it. What an awful car, any amount of turn = spin, it's like the Atom almost. My solution was to stack the car into the first wall as hard as possible, just shy of 45 degrees angle. It's enough to not get a collision penalty but also the fastest way to get around it.

The Driveclub handling is nice in some areas, but others it's actually far too close to simulation and it robs it of fun. I think the only fast car I like driving is the Zonda R, everything is so progressive and correctable in that one.

If it makes you feel any better getting all of the golds on the tour is not required to get all the trophies for the game. It doesn't even prevent you from getting a Platinum trophy. I think the prize for all golds is a "special" livery. Not a huge deal.

edit: Ah you ended up getting it. Cool. But still, if you find a challenge too much of a pain in the ass, feel free to move on to something else.

I beat one this morning by like 7/1000ths of a second and sent you a pm.

Not played since then, on nights.

Oh, right. Forgot about that. I think I beat that one, or maybe it was a different challenge? Kinda difficult keeping them all straight...

No problem. It's just that drifting has become kind of second nature now so I mostly go with my guts. It's like explaining how to walk.

Here are some other attempt at your challenge which didn't top my ghost ( one did but spin ). They are still worth a look: http://youtu.be/Um4moFeL2rA

Excellent! Damn, so smooth through most of those. hahahaha, 3000 through one turn, even going off track... whatever.

Just tried one of postcyberpunk's challenges. Somehow I got the exact same time as TomDeFrank lol. Topped postcyberpunk and servbot doe, teehee!

Edit: On another note, I wonder if it's worth reviving the old challenges thread, now that things have settled in.

Flunkie: I've got two-three spots open and only three members right now, but I am only Level 7 (I think). Oh, and we are not the best drivers. (I am doing a great job of selling this...)

Hope you're not a salesman irl.

I'll let you know if I do want to jump ship. It's just no fun if I'm the only one doing challenges.

Finally bought the season pass :).

So happy with this game, feels good man.

I wanted to buy the season pass but the hyper cars and first expansion are pissing me off. I should have never started driving the BAC Mono a lot. It makes every other car feel like shit by default. BEST CAR EVER to drive. So much fun. I want more cars like it.

I was actually thinking GOTY there for awhile...

My brother, who's been chugging out stars like no tomorrow lately, has told me the same thing. He was addicted to the game, but the hyper cars were too frustrating. Not even sure he's getting the season pass now if the events are going to focus on hypers...

As for me, not there yet, so verdict is out!

It just feels like the courses were not made for these supremely fast and nimble cars. I know that should be part of the challenge but it has just led to frustration instead, unlike with Super and down where I'd grind out a race or time trial attempt after attempt until I got all those stars.

With Hyper stuff I'm just get so fed up so fast because they're so damn touchy - one little messup and you're just fucking flying everywhere.

Got this game through gamefly and I've played up through semi pro in the campaign and there's parts I love about this game (visuals mostly) and parts I hate about this game (complete lack of customization and arcade style driving mechanics) but I want to try out the club features before I send it back. Is there any GAFers with open spots in their club for me to try out this weekend before I send the game back? I'm still not sure if I like this game or not, hopefully being in a club will make me feel a little more positive about my experience.

Edit: nevermind I'm sending the game back. Glad to see you guys enjoying it but it's just not for me.

Most important is to go easy on the acceleration when exiting a corner. Brake early. These car have power exceeding the grip of their tire. It takes some time to get used to them. Just don't bash your head against the hypercar event. Take a break, have some sleep, do other challenge, and try again later.

or just hop in a BAC Mono for endless time trials and races and live in a world of bliss

I like the BAC Mono too, but I will be faster in a Pagani Zonda R. I do prefer Super to Hyper, but I keep Hyper as my go to challenge when I want to exceed a bit my limit. I should do the Venom Hot Lap 2 soon.

Criticise the Atom! That's fighting talk!! ;-)

The Atom is my fav car, the way it accelerates is just awesome. Looking forward to trying out the Alpine when I get the season pass.

The Zonda R is a great all rounder but the McLaren P1 also handles great and is easier to control in the wet in my experience. It just struggles on the faster circuits where you have to rely on its kers and drs to keep up.

Stick with the Huayra. Definitely the most user friendly in the class.

I'm in love with DC.

It's the first racing game in years that I want to jump into time trials and just go lap after lap, trying to perfect my lines and shave a few seconds off of my time. DC makes me realize what a crutch the rewind feature is—it allows you to correct a bad line through a single turn, but it doesn't do much to actually teach you the nuances of a full track.

To me, DC is the most underrated game of the year (among the press).
