Hearing that the PS4 suspend mode is working "perfectly" and "awesome" and that button mapping works great. Works in-game

Basically this is super awesome, BUT can someone please fix this total piece of garbage called Internet browser on my PS4?
I use it often for trophies and it's slow, sloppy, freezes often for several seconds and absolutely isn't fun to use in general. It also doesn't seem to save any login informations or settings via cookies. Same was / is in terms of its predecessor on PS3.

Great that we can delete zero percent trophies now, but in some games you earn very early on in the game a trophy which ends you up with 1% or similar :p
Why can't we just delete any games as we wish?

Damn this is great news! I've long awaited Suspend/Resume on my PS4 :)
But another one that I feel people have overlooked is apparently button mappings? If that means OS-level re-configurable custom controls for games... That is huge IMO.

Here is a hypothetical question:

If you Suspend/Resume a game, will it calculate the time between the two states (in-game time) or it'll be instantaneous and starts from the moment you suspend? in-game timer wise

As in, will it be any different then letting the console on while the game paused for the same period?

Suspend should work exactly as the function does currently when using an app while playing a game. The whole game is essentially frozen until you come back to it, so in response to your question the in-game timer is frozen along with anything else going on, though if on a game that requires a constant internet connection resuming will instantly throw you out of it.

Wait a second, isn't shareplay essentially the same technology as remote play. Where is remoteplay at 60FPS?

Great features (suspend/resume and improved trophies) but I hope and think there will be more. It's definitly time for video playback (besides BR discs), also they said that support for mp3s on the hard drive skipped 2.0 but there were already working on it.

Vita doesn't retain your game state if you actually turn the system off, does it?

It does if the battery dies while you're playing, because it'll suspend it right before it does, so you can resume once you get it charged again. I don't think it does if you physically turn it off, though.

I'm hoping it will on PS4, since unlike the Vita there's no battery that might die, so maybe it'll just automatically suspend when you choose to turn off the console in the menu.

Folders before DLNA

#teamfolders

Honestly, if they include Suspend/Resume in the next update (with the other nice features included), Folders and DLNA are really all there is on the checklist that people really really want when it comes to OS function.

Custom Backgrounds and Themes would probably be next in line, but those are more visual requests than adding any functionality.

Oh Yeah, Video Playback too is a functionality that needs to be added ASAP!!!

this would be so weird considering no console ever featured this before(that I know of). we didn't even ask for it.

The Great Trigger/Bumper civil war will finally be at an end if that is the case

maybe devs got sick of people asking for a toggle post launch.

damn...

Suspend/resume is pretty nice though, hopefully its not the only thing in 2.5. Would be a pretty lackluster one in that case.

I have a feeling DLNA will be snuck in there.

For now, while it's in beta. It should be a one-time fee once it's out of beta (probably between $5 and $10). The server is free, and you can use the browser client on the PS4 for free also.

I really hope once it is out of beta Plex gets a better library management system because otherwise it would be like paying money for more convoluted, difficult library management, as opposed to other solutions that are both free and simple.

Hnnnnng! Hopefully full button remapping will also work on Vita for Remote Play games! [with template saving on per-game basis]

Button assignment for suspending the game and console.

No, it's a separate feature from suspend/resume. In the screengrabs it's specifically listed under Accessibility options, so it's intended for situations like changing button mapping system wide for people with disabilities that make normal button mapping difficult, for example.

There will always be more. The fact that we're onto asking for things like custom themes, USB video playback, and universal remote support shows how little important stuff there is left to add.

A JRPG like FFX where there may be upwards of an hour between save points, but you have to turn off your PS4 before reaching the next one. Instead of just shutting the game down and starting all over again, you can put it in standby and then pick your game right back up where you left off.
So what happens when there's a power outage? ;)

Current Vitas cannot connect on 2.50 remote play. This means that new Remote Play vita app is probably needed so that it can decode 60fps stream. :)

Same as with Xbone. Game session will be lost and on next boot you will enter into fresh OS.

O_O This changes everything...

Do we have any information on the power consumption of suspend mode yet? Was just curious so I started looking up energy costs of a PS4. It's much less then I thought. and I've heard its a real power hog.

This website I found said the average kw/h rate in the USA is 10 cents. If you use your ps4 3 hours a day it comes out to just under $2 a month, much less then I thought just guessing

PS4 In Use: 90-150 w/h
PS4 in standby mode: 10w/h

If suspend mode can come in at 20-30 w/h that would be pretty sweet

Oh right my mistake. So it's like the NOM4D controls from the Call of Duty games? I thought it meant the button assignments like a specific combination to instantly suspend the console, but that's awesome news for general button assignments.
