Is there any evidence for any of these claims?

Well the changelog for the update mentions button assignments and suspend mode so those are pretty much 100% confirmed. The 60 FPS shareplay and everything else hasn't had any solid proof. I will believe them though. The lack of 60fps in shareplay actually breaks some games so it would make sense to fix that.

I'm surprised so many people want button customization.

Isn't it going to be confusing when games give you button prompts that don't match up at all with your configuration? Are you going to remember what they're assigned to?

it's kind of unprecedented to even give us the option. we never asked because we though it would never happen.

I'm assuming it's just os level.

edit: apparently it works in game.

Would be cool if we could set button profiles. So I could have a PS Now profile for when I want to play Uncharted but use the triggers or something.

This is what most users are going to see:

- Resumes Game
- "You were logged off for inactivity"
- Gets kicked back in the Main Menu

There's too many connected games for this feature to be completely useful.

Shouldn't be a problem if it works the same way it does on Vita.

Mh, I can't see this being very useful for when you switch between different games.
Sure, this allows you to fix a specific problem in a specific game that doesn't have mapping, but won't this fuck up all other games then? Plus the button prompts in games won't change either I guess.

It's main use it probably to help people with disabilities, e.g. that have problems reaching a certain button.
Oh and I guess left handed people can now customize a true left handed controller setup for every game.

In addition they should have included some OS preference settings from the start like they have for screen size etc. (R1/L1 or L2/R2 for shooting/racing etc. so that games automatically change this)

/edit: Unless of course they save these settings per game :D

Appear Offline would be nice.

The button configuration option is sweet if true. I wonder if OS-level or something you could customize via the option menu for a given game on the home screen.

what does zooming and button assignments mean?
Just a guess but zooming could zoom the picture in at an OS level. This could be useful with letterbox games like The Order or The Evil Within - setting the zoom to something like 20% would hide the borders (and also some of the screen on the left and right).

hopefully the next evolution of button remapping would be custom sets to quickly swap in and out. or simply change based on what game your playing.

Will PS4 be the first console ever to have button mappings for all games?

I think so. Hopefully the Vita follows. It's a PITA when you import a Japanese title and circle/x are swapped.

You'd think, but that will probably be very low priority due to being able to multitask fairly easily on the console (push PS button -> Settings).
