Wii U Owners: If a Nintendo console released next year, would you consider it?

I swear the Nentendo fans are like Apple and Galaxy S fans that don't care, they just want the latest and greatest

Or maybe they just feel the games they have gotten for the Wii U justified the purchase. Also, that logic kinda implies to anyone who is a fan of a consumer electronic device.

If it wasn't outrageously expensive like the 3DS/New 3DS and Wii U maybe.
These products have absolutely nothing in terms of features or hardware that justifies the price. Say what you want about the games, but hardware wise there's nothing.
I own a Wii U and I want a New 3DS, but their pricing is just wrong. Their "justification" for not including an AC-adapter with the New 3DS is laughable.

each time i say i won't do it again (at launch) but each time i buy it at launch (GCN, DS, Wii, 3DS, WiiU...). So at the moment i'm leaning towards 'no', also because i still have a backlog for my WiiU (need to finish W101, WW, Bayo2, ME3, AC4, still need to buy Lego city, SM3DW, Toad TT, SSBU...).

However, if they launch it with a mouth watering Metroid Prime 4...

If by "latest and greatest" you mean games like Pikmin 3, then fuck yeah!

I don't care about "mass market success" i care about good games for a system ive payed money for, and so far cant really complain (Wonderful 101 game of the generation??). I would be mad if another console is released anytime before 2017, and if anyone thinks that will realistically happen your stupid. I would feel cheated and i know a lot of others would too, and i don't think Nintendo underestimates that.

Exactly. I like the way you are thinking.

Unlike MS and the 360, with the Wii U Nintendo doesn't have endless cash piles to burn through along with third parties buttered up and on board day one.

That has nothing to do with whether I would buy a new console four years later. The 360 launched with s few exclusives and terrible ports and then had one of the worst droughts ever until the following fall. I still enjoyed it and I will enjoy the NX as well with their Nintendo exclusives.

Next year no, unless it was a handheld. I love nintendo and will always buy their products but a new home console next year would be too soon for me. I'd most likely buy a ps4 and play that for a few years and get the nintendo console at the end of its cycle with a shit load of nintendo games.

No chance unless it was some quirky VR system, I've only just not got into the Wii-U with a lot of games on my list to play.

For me it depends on the games. If there is a great game I need to play, I will definitely get it. So its basically the same as with all plattforms.

I'd consider it, but my Wii U is collecting dust right now and it would be at least a year or two before there were enough compelling games released to make me pull the trigger. Now if nintendo decided to stop being so stingy with virtual console releases then that would be a different story.

Depends on the hardware, but I would probably purchase it regardless of what fidelity level it is on (not weaker than Wii U of course).

I'm one of those who buys any new Nintendo console day one, so yeah, I'd get on-board. They still make the games that click with me the most. Whatever I need to play them, I'll get.

In the same way the didn't cheat us by saying they didn't include proper storage in Wii U to "keep costs for the consumers down"? The same way they don't cheat us by not including a fucking charger for the 3ds? When in fact they charge shit loads of cash for cheap flash memory? If you want a premium Wii U with a boost of 16GB that is. The list goes on.
They want just as much for just a battery for the Wii U gamepad as an entire Pro Controller cost. Nintendo are greedy pricks. Nintendo aren't underestimating us all. They've just realized that most of the market follows the "iSheep, iDumb, iBuy, iPhone"-trend.

There has been a single console generation that lasted that long, which was a direct result of MS and Sony's razorblade model (lose a lot of money on the hardware, but try to make up for it by squeezing more and more money out of your customers through subscription services etc.)...

....which, in the end, did every company more harm than good (the industry was dragged into the HD-era when most companies weren't ready, both console manufacturers lost a lot of money upfront, budgets exploded etc.)

5 years are far more sensible . 7-8 was just nuts.
It was nuts, but in a good way. It made it possible to join in halfway and still get a great value for money. The slim models of the PS3 and 360 releasing halfway through gave the generation a second soft launch.

Anything less than five years and Nintendo will prove one thing: That they consider their consoles and customers disposable. And they really can't afford to do that to their core fans who actually bought the Wii U. I mean, a refresh, like a slim Wii U or something would be fine, but nothing that makes it so the original Wii U customers can't buy and play the latest Nintendo console games.

I think you're short changing Apple fans here. In terms of uncritical consumerism, Apple has been breeding customers that are in a class of their own.

We're still talking an upgrade after 4 years compared to a yearly update (at double the price) here, after all.

actually..I don't think so. Gaf loves the WiiU and I loved zombieu but I have to say after ZombieU no game clicked for me. Bought Mario Kart and was the first time in my life bored of a Mario Kart game..

Maybe for 100€..or 150€ but nothing more.

Still have a backlog to go through on the Wii U myself. Xenoblade X and Zelda U will make it a lot more worthwhile.

Also, there's no reason not a buy a console if it has games you want to play. This fanboy allegiance thing and feeling of betrayal is just silly. At the end of the day it's about buying what you want, not what you might want in the future.

So yes, like the WiiU, I'll buy it when it has enough games I'd want to play.

If a new console came out next year, I'd probably avoid it at first.

I bought a Basic Wii U on launch day. I've only played NSMBU, WW HD, DuckTales Remastered, Captain Toad, and a few downloadable games. It's not that there's nothing that interests me. I mainly bought it for first party games and haven't played any of them yet. Once I play those, maybe I'd jump on something new.

I don't understand why anyone who has a wii u would buy the new nintendo console at launch. I've enjoyed my wii u, but nah.

George Bush "Fool me once shame on, shame on you. Fool me twice... the fool can't get fooled again." Assuming that I have ps4 by then, I'd rather get xbone than the new nintendo console.

Honestly? Yes, but only because I'm a whore for all things Nintendo (hey at least I admit it!). I would feel a bit disappointed they would abandon the WiiU, which is an amzing system, so fast.

Depends on price, not paying more than $200.
See you at the next, next console.

Are we really doing this already? People for the longest time have been wanting the Wii U for a ridiculous price. What makes you think the next console will be any less than that already?

No way, I wouldn't buy a new Nintendo console. I'd rather preffer Nintendo to reduce the price of WiiU, release more excelent games like Bayonetta and Xenoblade (I'm not into Marios) rather than chasing hardware innovation or trying to compete with MS and Sony.

So you don't think their current pricing is ridiculous? Overpriced? Which of all the cheap parts inside of it makes it just? While it is indeed superior in some areas to the PS360 it's also inferior. CPU for example. Much weaker which has really held it back. Memory. Twice as much, but half as fast.

If it's the same old slapdick bullshit I think I might be done with their home consoles honestly. I love my Wii U and the software but none of my friends are going to get one due to the barebones online services and no games sans Nintendo titles. You have a problem when you have to hype up indie titles as hot third party releases. I love their indie support but that's absolutely ridiculous.

I also think they need to stop with the gimmicks. I love off TV play and do most of my VC gaming on it exclusively, but the thing is a fucking chore to deal with an eyesore to look at. My gamepad has died more from sitting there and doing nothing then from actually being used. You can't even turn the piece of shit off!! Who thought that was a good idea?? Want to watch Netflix on tv? You'd better believe that gamepads going to be displaying a second picture of the movie. Try to turn the display off and now you can't play the damn movie! Dicking around with controllers just makes me not want to use the console.

No. Maybe at the end of its life if it ends up with games I want to play.

I skipped GCN and Wii (until after it had lost support) so I had a Nintendo itch for a bit. A year or two later, and after playing the iterations of the few titles that they release on each machine, I've already had my fill.

The way they've abandonned the machine has left a bad taste for me. I get it from a short-term financial perspective but I don't know if they get it from a long-term one.

I'm also tired of their outdated and oftentimes unfair practices. Their account management system (or lack of) is inexcusable in 2015, and the fact that timeworn gamepads are breaking and irreplaceable while Nintendo charges you $150 to send it in for a repair is absolutely atrocious.

I won't be supporting them.

No, becuse I have only just brought a WII U this December becuse it managed to get a decent sized library of games I wanted to play. If it get's discontinued any time soon I won't mind becuse of all the games I have on it.

I won't buy any console day one now.

I get what you mean, but you can actually turn the screen of the gamepad off.
Biggest flaw I think is the fact that not all games can be played on the gamepad.
Nice feature that isn't always supported.

No, unless they have a launch game that I really want to play (and I can't think of anything that would make me buy a new console day 1).

Ridiculous? I don't think so. A bit much for people who are not exactly Nintendo fans? Sure. But for the longest time people have complained and wanted one for a ridiculous low price and the two I quoted above are already asking for some insane low amount when the console hasn't even been shown or anything.

I am a fan (less now than before though), but I still feel they want too much when you compare their products to other products in the same category that offers more.
I do agree on your point that setting a limit to how much you're willing to pay before you even know what it is that you'll be able to buy is a bit bonkers.

There was less then a five year window between the PS1 and the PS2 in the US. No one in their right might would say that Sony thought their US customers were disposable just because they didn't delay their new console for another year.

I would feel burned. I would refuse to buy it in the first years out of principle

I've enjoyed the Wii U so far but I expect to enjoy it more before they ditch it.

Incidentally I don't think this news means what some posters think it means though. If it lowers expectations for e3 maybe that makes it easier to do well.

I will be done with Nintendo if they release another console that soon. It's possible some day I will change my mind, but not likely. They simply charge too much for the tech you get to risk another huge outlay for nothing. Been there, done that already with Sega as a youth.

I wouldn't. I've still not played through all the first party games I have for the Wii U, and I'm still missing a few big ones like Pikmin, DK, Wonderful 101 and Captain Toad. I still also don't have a PS4 yet, but my next gen 3rd party games'll be on that, and I can't really trust Nintendo to have an equal 3rd party support anymore, especially since games that are being ported to last gen, and hell even the Wii, aren't releasing on Wii U.

So no, I wouldn't get one until either a price drop, a new Smash Bros, or anything Galaxy related that takes advantage of a stronger hardware. As in a Pokemon Gold-Heart Gold level improvement, not just a HD port.

The Wii was basically 4 years, right? I know they had stuff out in 2011, and the Wii U came out in 2012, but I remember support of the Wii basically dying after 2010.

Would it be easier to accept if the Nx came out next year, but they still supported the Wii U into 2017?

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Lots of ifs would make me jump:

2. If they update their accounts management system so that it's on par with MS and Sony

I want to say no.

But if Nintendo does the opposite of the Wii U's launch (great first and third party, big harddrives, games tied to account etc) day 1

WHAT? Games are to tied to accounts which is the NNID. But the problem is the NNID is tied to the console, not the games.

.

I didnt wanna go into reasons why I wouldnt get another one but these are a few. Found out the hard way about accounts when we bought another 3DS for my son a few months after we thought he lost the first one.

And seeing how both Sony and MS went with less exotic, more common hardware this gen.....those wanting Nintendo's next console to be backwards compatible, those wanting it to be closer in specs to Sony and MS's.... I feel its gonna be an either/or scenario....and not both. Unless Nintendo does some magical software emulation.

my only question is if they do release a console next year, would it count as their second 8th gen console replacement for the wii u or will it count as the first 9th gen console?

if it is meant to compete with current gen then I see it as an 8th gen console, regardless of it being the wii u's successor.

This is a good point...would it been seen as the Wii U was....the technically first next gen system....or still current gen?
