Xenoblade 3D |OT| Is that a Monado in your pocket or are you just really feeling it?

As someone who likes JRPGS and has never played the wii version, should I make a trip to the store tomorrow to buy this?

Yes of course. Honestly if you like playing good video games and don't shackle yourself to narrow tastes you should play this Xenoblade period. People need to branch out more!

I hope people stop talking about the graphics and start talking about the actual gameplay and story soon.

Amen. Was gonna post something similar. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Depends on what kind of jrpgs you like.

Persona 3
Persona 4
Pokemon
The World Ends With You
Game of the forever
Fire Emblem Age of Waifus
Lost Odyssey
Atlus Tax IV

I keep thinking of more actiony jrpgs lol. I'm sure I played way more turn based ones, but I don't feel like trying to remember which.

Yes, you should :D

ok haha.

I like almost everything. I hate sports games though. Fighting games and driving games I'm fine with, but don't play much.

Okay, thanks to the last page I went and picked up my preorder copy from GameStop.

I also grabbed their last sealed copy of Etrian Odyssey Mystery Dungeon. Between those two games and my rekindled love of Final Fantasy XII, it's going to be a great weekend.

Must say that am highly impressed with the game and insane that it runs on a 3DS even if it is just with the new models.

My only complaint with the JP version is wish the font was a bit cleaner.

Asides from that very happy with the title.

It's honestly falls somewhere between an action rpg and a turn-based rpg. Action is all real-time without any turns (except for special chain attacks), but it's not like you're actually swinging the sword yourself or anything.

Just say it's based on cooldowns. That should be a clear enough descriptor these days.

doesnt look that bad considering how awful it looked on the wii (not counting the dolphin mods that make it look nice) but since i didnt give the game a chance(because i wasnt spending that stupid amount of cash to gamestop for a *used* copy) i bought this today and am loving it so far.

Game has incredible art direction and environmental design that lends it a sense of scale and size that very few games can match. It has never looked anything other than amazing to me and I've always been impressed at it running on both Wii and N3DS hardware.

This is another game that highlights how dire the volume output is on the 3DS. Low impedance earphones/IEMs is the only way to get good audio out of this thing. The 3DS can't power a decent full size headphone at all, and even plugging it an amp and putting it at max volume is still not that loud.

I love Xenoblade, but I cant stand RPG's like persona. They literally take out everything I like about jrpgs, and focus on everything I would tolerate to get to what I liked about jrpg's.

But I know people who absolutely love both.

Xenoblade is like a love letter to peoples whos favourite things about jrpg's was the overworld.

I replaced my New XL's SD card today with a 32GB card. I took the original card out of the system, put it into my computer, and copied everything on the card onto my desktop.

Then I put the new card in the computer, copied everything onto there, and put the new card in the system.

I was under the impression that when I turned the system back on it should look exactly the same as it did. It did to an extent, all of the default system software icons were where I had placed them, and I bunch of them were in a folder I had made. But all my games were gone.

I'm redownloading them right now but I'm worried that my save data will be gone. I spent an hour running around the city accepting quests and stuff, really hope I don't have to start over.

You're still in the wrong thread. I don't know why you're going into Xenoblade threads to ask about a system-related issue.

I'll copy my reply from the other thread to which you haven't responded:

Though still, make sure you did copy absolutely EVERYTHING from the original card and then make sure that EVERYTHING (same amount of files!!) is on the new card.

I really wouldnt call it an action rpg. You can move during battle as do the enemies, but thats pretty much it.

Theres no actual collision detection, so timing and whether or not an attack actually hit isnt based off of an attack making contact with an enemy (Or the other way around)

Its based on whether or not the area of effect contains the object to be hit, at the moment of the button press. And... Thats it.

So, to provide an example, take a move with a long windup animation time, like the monado buster, shulk slowly extends the monados energy blade, then in a dramatic sweeping motion brings it smashing down.

The area of effect of this attack is a straight line in front of shulk. All enemies in that line will be hit. However, the enemies keep moving during this long animation. Often times they move clean out of the way of the attack animation.

But they still get hit, because its not a real time battle system.

Conversly, if shulk performs the buster, and a bunch of enemies wander into the animation, they wont get hit, because they werent in the area of effect when the button was pressed and what gets hit was calculated... because its not a real time battle system.

The simplest way I can explain it, is its the chrono trigger battle system (Even has the same battle planner), where enemies moved in real time during battle, but now the player party can move as well, and intead of an atb bar applied to when the character can perform an action, its applied to each individual action .

Just started about a half hour ago and holy shit, this is a real RPG, with a real open world, on my Nintendo handheld.

Even knowing what i was in for, i still didn't think this day would come.

Can wait to spend hours and hours with this game and finish an RPG for the first time in years.

Played about 30 minutes today.

It's Xenoblade, but... RIP Xenoblade's rich and vibrant colors ;.;

Man I am really loving this game. It feels so massive too, on such a small system. I may have fallen in love, I am gonna be spending countless on this, I can already tell.

Persona 4 Golden was what got me back into RPG's and the belief that they truly shine on portables. This game is amazing and the fact Nintendo put it on a portable makes me really appreciate the fact that they did.

We are really lucky to have this game ported.

I spent 20 minutes roaming colony 9 accepting every quest I could.

I know I'm still missing some based on the numbering.

I will regret nothing about completing quests!

Dude you're going to steamroll everything else in the game if you do all those initial quests; LEAVE THE DAMN HINTERLANDS!

I did that with the Wii version and I ended up hating the game 11 hours in. Don't make the same mistake I did

Not sure where you are at in your game but some quests become available after specific story points and others are based on city affinity rank.

make sure you are talking to every named npc at different times (they have 3 different response times) at least 2-3 times to get affinity boosts. You can raise colony 9 to rank 5 really early in the game, I believe before finishing gaur plains.

I've done the same thing and I love the game. Playing through for the first time on the Wii. I'm up to Satorl Marsh and still completing every quest I find.

If I upgrade something in one skill tree but then switch skill sets. Do I lose the powers I've upgraded or are they permanent.

Aka does switching skill sets just change what I'm upgrading or also what skills I am using?

They are permanent. Switching skills sets DOES change which branch you are learning but once any skill is learned they are locked in.

It's hard going against my compulsion to want to do every quest, but I'm enjoying it a hell of a more than I ever did in doing so. Still not quite "greatest JRPG ever" material like some make it out to be, but it's damn good nonetheless.

Don't burn yourself out on those sidequests, man. They can kill the game for you if you let them.

I do them all everytime. It's a sickness. I wish this game was more like an MMO in that it turned off exp rewards for quests when you outlevel them.

To those who complained about the visuals....You mad. Game looks fine. Just gotta get used to the controls and I'll be diving in deeeeep.

Will QA for food.
My feeling on side quests are just activate as many as them as you can when you enter a new area and you'll complete half of them by just running around. Then for the fighting ones, I the ones I actually really enjoying, I have no problem focusing on those. Like others have said, there's no need to do them all before moving on from an area and you might not even be able to do them all with some of the monster fights. Just take your time, even with the 'timed' ones.

I'm sure it's the novelty of the game that's compelling everyone to complete all of the quests. I've almost done all of the available Colony 9 quests without having gone to the lab yet :p

I don't think I'll do all the quests.

I did some monster quests and by association some material quests.

Also there's no chance to do Heart to Hearts over again is there? Do I miss out on much by screwing them up? I just got the achievement for
having one go as bad as possible.

Also I feel like doing some quests means I won't rush through to the end of the game. I feel like skipping out on exploring or stopping here and there to wipe out the local population of whatever beast I'm sort of missing out on a big part of the game.

My approach to quests last time I played this was to just accept every quest possible when you first get to an area and then you end up completing most of them just by exploring.
