Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival Announced (Wii U, Mario Party System, Holiday 2015)

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I saw the Animal Crossing visuals, and my heart jumped. I was filled with happiness. "Finally," I said. "Something to redeem this presentation."

Then I saw the game spots on the ground. Quickly, my brain pieced together what was actually happening. Like somebody had punched me in the gut, I realized this was a board game. I couldn't speak. My heart sank. I was crushed. The dream was gone.

See Tom Nook's face? That's the exact look I had after I realized it was a board game.

This was not what I had in my mind when I said that they have to be making an Animal Crossing game for Wii U since there are so many AC HD assets out there in other games and that plaza thing.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty salty about this. for the first 5 seconds I was hyped before I saw the tiles on the ground. Goddamn I thought for sure we were getting a full AC game. Oh well, on the bright side less Isabelle in my life

This describes my reaction exactly. I thought maybe it was a sub mode in the real game until I saw the hashtag.

This was nearly my literal reaction, though I saw the game spots immediately and just internally went "Oh no ... nooo no."

I'm slowly recovering.

So...this won't work without the amiibos, right?

You have to spend about 100 bucks for the game and 4 amiibos to play that game with 4 players locally?

Or do the amiibos only unlock some minor stuff?

Haha my post in the direct thread is just "Oh no."

Maybe we'll get a new Animal Crossing in 2016? That's about the right schedule.

So eventhough I have zero interest in party games without online I'll say this..

This game might be slightly redeemable if:

1. without amiibo you can still use a typical ac villager or something as your character.

2. the amiibo cards make every single ac villager available as a character, not just the statue guys.

3. The gameplay is a lot better/more interesting than recent mario party games.

This hurt. So hard. The first seconds didn't even show the board game, it looked like it was going to be the Animal Crossing we wanted.

My stream of conscious when watching... YES AC on WIi U! Okay now they are playing this is a minigame. Okay this is weird they are still playing this minigame. Okay they are spending a lot of time on this game mechanic. OMG this is the ******* game. This sucks. I don't collect Amiibos but those AC Amiibos look pretty good. Ah well it's like Mario Party. I like Mario Party right? I can have friends over to play this. I don't know how I feel about this.

1 is already out the window.

Wait I can't even play as Blathers?!
If only they combined this board game idea with Mario Party's minigames I bet they'd have something good. I know it sounds like a crazy idea, but I bet it'd work great.

Guys, if this ends up being Fortune Street x Animal Crossing I'm going to hunt down every one of you who says it's shit.

If it's Mario Party, you're all free to go.

So is this going to be fully priced as well? Pretty damn scummy to require people to also buy at least one $12 piece of plastic to even start playing.

I knew the amiibo's were going to start becoming too intrusive, preparing for Nintendo to shove them in everything now.

I'm mildly excited for Happy Home Designer in hopes that there will be some cool sort of tie in to New Leaf but I just couldn't care less about this. I'll probably pick up 1 or 2 of the amiibo just because I'm a fan of the series.

...hate me...
Disgraceful. I understand it would be kinda cruel to release an actual AC so late into Wii U's life but you could make it so that the progress carries over to a NX version, to be released early into its life.

I don't think I'll even get it for collecting purposes as a fan of the series. Maybe from the clearance bin years later.

I hope this sells well enough so that we can get another proper Animal Crossing title in the future. The Animal Crossing brand doesn't seem like a brand suited for spin-offs to me.. Same goes for that house decorating game. Anyone actually looking forward to either of these games?

Very sad that this was even announced tbh. Gimme a real AC Wii U.

Well, people complained and whined about wanting amiibos to do MORE than what they did in Smash and Kart! This is what they get! I hope everyone's happy about it.

This was always going to lead to amiibos being tied to a game in the same vein as Skylanders with the constant complaining about how amiibos do so little. Always. Nintendo had nothing creative in their heads when they came up with amiibos, they couldn't come up with anything more after the implementation seen in Kart, Smash, and the other games that support them for cosmetic functionality.

God. This industry. I feared this and it's happening to Nintendo. Unbelievable.

Meanwhile the Happy Home Designer doesn't seem so bad anymore and actually seems like a fairly logical spin-off. But THIS? This isn't logical at all. Who wanted this? Literally who?

Nintendo has to know how disappointed everyone is going to be. What a huge slap in the face.

I wonder how many Amiibos they'll make of each. What a nightmare.
