Fighting Games Weekly | July 27 - Aug 2 | Beta luck next time

Played 16 matchs online on Rising Thunder and this GGPO3 is really good. Some matches were bad but viewing the ping that was not a surprise.

The only thing I don't like is the cooldown on moves. Not because it's a too bad idea but when it's used in combos, the cooldown is the same as when used in neutral and sometimes you hit a big combo with all your special moves and wish to use one of them on your opponent wakeup and you can't, that's frustrating.

Maybe that's an intentional tradeoff? Like if you want one of your specials for oki, don't use it in the combo.

the ex clone just doesn't work right. the clone goes away on block. i can't clone again cause i'm in a clone cooldown...
Ah, thanks. I wanted to main Sub-Zero until I discovered that he couldn't use the ice clone while in the air. Baiting anti-airs was my favorite thing to do with him. :-(

Now I don't know who I would want to use, since I don't own the game...

A week ago he said he was back into MKX, now this week he's retired again. It's a roller coaster of emotion with Tom Brady. But hey, he loves his diablo.
 
Ryu looks boring in SFV :/
No donkey kick, no fake hadouken, nada.
I am not a big fan of fake Hadokens. Memorizing startup animations is an important part of the game. I don't understand the utility of Donkey Kick.

It's fine for Ryu to be boring. In a cast of 16, one character can afford to be boring for newbies.

I played some A2 and Ryu has a command normal kick that moves him forward, Capcom pls i need that.

It gives him an improved zoning game *can knock people back out* and gives him new set ups and combo posbilties. It's a tool that makes him into a more complete character

Idea is that Ryu is the fireball guy with a well rounded supporting arsenal. He is meant to be a hard to read projectile dude and the donkey kick is to push them back out. If folks try to out zone him his counters are meant to (as a starting point for this tool) build him easy Vtrigger gauge so he can use his tools more. If they get in close and he can't mule kick out he is meant to counter into stuff to let him get away netting more tools for his stuff as well.

Without the mule kick I don't think he'd do the greatest because there are folks like Bison who can straight ignore some of his projectile pressure with their own tools. Having the mule kick to check them charging in is a good deterrent.
