That's exactly who he meant. Players who stuck with SF4 because its "uniqueness" is what kept them good (and kept them -playing-, which illustrates what Valle is precisely worried about).

Thing is, how many wins did those players get over the more experienced players? Not many(or none). It sounds like Valle wants the same dumb comeback factors that he wanted gone in SFV. People have to learn to adapt to new games. This isn't SF4-2.(And if people do want that they should just go play Rising Thunder :p) If developers actually took a comment like that to heart than we wouldnt even have had a SF4. We'd be stuck in Hyper Fighting land forever.

This is the same sorta pushback that happened in the transition from SF3 to SF4. People don't like change.

Yeah...I miss that. :(
Nullifies projectiles. Including the friendly fire from exploding your minions.
Hold on BRB.

That sounds like a very particular set of people.
I can see more people having trouble with reduced jab pressure confirming into stronger buttons, considering a lot of people showing exactly that habit. I won't miss this, vortex or FADC that's for sure.
New game, new luck and fundamentals still proving to be most important when starting fresh.
The most interesting thing will be seeing how good the fresh strong 09er faces like Louffy, Infiltration, Smug, Bonchan, etc. hold up.

Chun does that same combo now, but it ends in lightning legs. I don't get the point.

It's all about the swag. Just like Dictator OTGing with EX Stomp.

I sure as hell hope Jack-O's English VA doesn't sound so annoying.

Edit: Wait, is Jack-O a charge character? -_-

I hear that.

I watch Valle's stream whenever I can and the subject of SFV comes up quite a bit. And it's like he's been holding back all these years, he kind of puts SF4 only players on blast. He talks a lot about how the game has made people lazy and they rely on all these SF4 tactics to either get out of trouble or win games. He did that for quite a while.

I think he's just calming down a bit now and now he's wondering about how the game will be viewed from the viewers perspective. If it's too honest, not flashy enough, or doesn't allow for WTF moments(which SF4 has plenty of lol) then it may not be able to bring the game to a level where it can truly stand alongside other big Esport games and help make the FGC more relevant. I think his tweet sort of reflect those thoughts. That's just my guess though.

That makes sense.

I feel that SF5 eventually through a big expansion will have multiple V-Trigger, V-Skill and Supers to mix and match.

The problem right now is that we most probably won't know until it is out. But they did say they try to recreate some of the WTF moments in the history of SF like with Ryu's parry. No chip kill could also turn into one hell of a comeback "mechanic". In general SFV feels a lot less like SFIV.

Nah I don't think he was really complaining XD

That sounds like a very particular set of people.

It applies to people who got into fighting games with SF4 and played that and nothing else, so that can be quite a lot of people overall.

Scratch everything I said, I watched Valle's stream from last night. Near the beginning he starts talking about the tweet he made. Pretty much it sounds like he's talking about brand new players(with basically 0 experience) against experienced players from the SF4 era and before then. Even a typical 2500pp player like myself will go in with a decent amount of basics and knowledge about how to find out how this game works whether it be combos or set ups.

You don't even need top players, you have an army of guys like me that will massacre the even bigger oncoming army of new players waiting for the new hotness to release. And that's what Valle is afraid of. We can easily beat these guys with a simple cross up for a good while. And the beat downs will continue to mount and may discourage people from continuing to play.

I honestly think people shouldn't worry about that. If this is what people are worried about, then what hope does Smash have? How about League? Those games aren't flashy to the casual audience. Is SF4 flashier than an anime game or Marvel?

Flashiness doesn't mean shit

If matchmaking does its job and matches up bad players with other bad players then there is nothing to worry about. You could say the same for every competitive sequel game.

Then what I said before still stands. SFIV is most definitely less newbie friendly than V due to all the OS's, vortexes and FA/FADC's. Most newbies dont even know how to crouch tech. At least V attempts to take all that hidden tech out the window.

Most newbies don't know what a crouch tech or a FADC is.

They likely won't know what a v trigger , v reseveral, or v gauge either, but they won't need to win a casual game knowing that.

It looks like they even removed kara throws, according to the gamescom build notes. So yes, it looks like they are trying to remove the "invisible" tech. In addition to that they even made a cross up note pop up to make things more clear and obvious.

Imo they should at least put the Tutorial mode to test in the beta, if there is going to be one.

Why would you ask to play someone to play a game that looks so ... barren. Rising thunder is aesthetically dull

I guess the biggest takeaway is how different the player base was at the beginning of SF4 is compared to the beginning of SFV. I have fond memories of playing Vanilla SF4 online because the game had a large pool of players that started together. And because everybody was so bad, we all learned together. Every Ryu was going for the same Ryu gimmick that first year(forward jump a fireball, do a preemptive jab DP because you expect a jump, and Ultra if it works) because they had that done against them in a Ryu mirror.

I kind of feel bad for brand new SFV players who won't have that same experience. Unless they only search for matches and stick with guys their own skill level, they're going to run into a lot of tournament players and online warriors. I know this can apply to just about any game but I'm just comparing the two most recent SF's.

The thing I remember fondly from those days were the arcade tournaments. Anything NSB was a must watch for me at the time. Now there won't be any of that.

Now there is even a chance that SFV will not have a NYC weekly with NLBC gone in february. Still remember Spooky restreaming a japanese tourny with Art in a blanket, or the revival of Guard Crush as Big Two. Good times.

watching arcade footage from Cali was so awesome as someone who was looking to get started on FGs back when SFIV was about to release. I remember players like Tatsu and Ed Ma and Keno who ended up quitting I guess, but there was a lot of hype and fun during that time

shoutouts to the dat guard crush special. when SFIV becomes the old school game and I'm revisiting it with the bros, I'm going straight to Balrog with that ex rush overhead lmao

Well, you need very good matchmaking systems, and either a large playerbase or a tolerance for long matchmaking delays.

tbh I'm not expecting a very robust skill based matchmaking system. Sony doesn't even offer anything equivalent to what MS was trying to do with TrueSkill do they? Did MS even make TS available to third parties?

I never liked TS in Halo when I played. It just made everyone get new accounts because leveling up required insane win streaks. I once had to win 15 matches in a row to go up 1 level, but then again, Street Fighter is a 1v1 game.

I liked that stage when those shit background characters weren't there.
It's such a small thing that you don't even notice while playing, but it's so off putting how little effort Capcom seemingly puts in into the background people who populate their stages. Makes the stages themselves feel uglier

The models are a little weird but honestly what's with their animation in this game? It's like half of the speed of what the game is actually running as or something and it just looks unnatural and jarring. Hopefully they fix that before the official game is released.

Aren't Ogawa, Nage, FAB, and basically all the other big name West Coast players friends with Ruu?
Weren't Dizzy and Baiken more popular with the East Coast people?

This could be good.

I'd guess that the 30 fps bg ppl might be that way to save on CPU power. I can't recall if memory or processor power is more important for rollback netcode though. Then again, the bg elements should animate at the full 60 when playing local and they clearly don't from what I've seen. Hopefully we'll get a definitive answer from capcom about it.

Yeah I'm sure it's done for a reason I just think that we're on next-gen and it will look way more amazing if everything runs a smooth 60 fps.

I wonder if we'll get 60fps background shitters on PC

or maybe mods to remove them. maybe 'deserted' stage variants. capcom plz
