Don't have the game yet (damn you steam) but was wondering. Can you knock on walls to lure enemies to you? It was something I felt was missing in GZ eventhough you had infinite magazines (unless I'm completely unaware of how to do it)

I think I've seen in Greg Miller's let's play that you can knock now.

If I remember correct there is no wall knocking but in PP you can use your arm to make noise and attract guards towards you.

.

GOTY.

I'd suggest spoiler taging songs that are in the game :) I personally don't consider them spoilers but I've definitely seen some people that do. That does sound pretty awesome though!

Also, are there any missable achievements in the game?

I paid nearly $100 to get the steelbook on time from amazon.de and it'll still be two days off. At least i can rest well knowing i'll be getting the superior art. :^)

Apologies. Unfortunately, this is now the best thread for us with the game to discuss gameplay and mild tagged spoilers.

I try to stay away from the spoiler thread as much as I can. There are major spoilers there that I haven't even encountered yet in the game, including the ending.

No apology needed, considering you nailed the OT. Thanks for that, I should apologise for not wanting to be in here (yet)

- Shower often, there's more perks than you think.
Giving you more Reflex mode time for one.

Thanks for these. I knew most of them but not all.

Where exactly can you shower as Snake? I'm guessing it's at motherbase.

Also a quick tip is to use the ability when riding D-Horse to drop down onto the side of the saddle to conceal yourself from enemy sight (x button on PS4) . I've actually used this method to walk straight into a base and rescue a prisoner. D-Horse can be so OP.

Yes please pay attention to the cardboard box shipping option, there is one form collect at every base, it's on the sign at the fast travel spot. I did not know this until 25 hours in after I had visited every base, now I have to go back and collect them all.

No you can't send out other base members on a mission until you unlock the combat division. I haven't tried it yet.

mhmmm I still don't understand what I should do with cardbox on every base or what it's look like, do you have a screen or something ?

The no steam preload thread was closed, now I'm reading all kinds of shit in here I don't really want to know. Not spoilers, but I was avoiding this thread to go in as fresh as possible.

ye...feeling the same. especially weird since the preload PS4 thread is still open...

Starting MGSV now. Hopefully the initial part isn't too short, cause I'd like to make some good progress before I have to finish downloading the other 20GB.

Edit: Also, the servers are down. That sucks.

So how essential is reflex mode? Anyone with impressions that aren't using it?

Somebody mentioned it on the last page. It's like GZ, you get more points for turning it off, and you still have a few seconds to deal with the eagle eyed bastard that spotted you. I guess it just doesn't automatically point you in their direction.

If it's any consolation, the game is so absolutely sodden, dripping with depth and details. If you went in fresh there is no way you could discover everything. probably 2/3rds of the stuff ITT is a surprise even for people who have been playing for 15 hours.

Two others a couple of pages back said they weren't using it and that it's great without. I might turn if off when I get back home from work.

As far as AAA games go I think I enjoyed GTA V and The Last of Us more.

Then there's this.

Then there's games like Far Cry 4, Dying Light that I enjoyed less, but similarly to MGSV.

I think my honeymoon period with MGSV is truly over. The flaws are bubbling up to the surface of how I view it. It's a stellar game, but I feel conflicted regarding it. It feels like a good, non-MGS wearing the skin of Metal Gear Solid.

Yes, this. It's such an amazing, and oft-overlooked ability. Just watch out for when guys are becoming more in-line with DH straight ahead or straight behind, they will see Snake and start become alerted.

Sounds like you binged it quite a lot, Alienous? Would that have an impact?

In gameplay terms alone this is leagues above GTA V and even then a cut above The Last of Us. Those games are definitely more cohesive, though. I'm only 10 hours into TPP.

Anyone got a link to that MGS story recap that was done recently by a fan?

Bought the game and haven't played a MGS since the first one. Despite the fact that stealth games are my favorite genre, I never bothered diving in because the story was so nonsensical. Now in advance of playing the more open world version, I would at least like to have a sense of the characters.

You're blowing my mind Som

Havent been following but wasnt the PC version supposed to unlock at 8 AM EST today??? whats going on, still says 1 day 4 hours left ;(

Lots of questions about the carboard box posts. They're bright orange, square and look a bit like a loading trolley/pallet you get at warehouses. There's a sign next to each one with the address that you need to collect with O (PS4). There's usually one at every major base, often near the entrance/main gate, but I've seen some on smaller outposts as well. You can use them to fast-travel by sitting on one with the box, but you can't warp to one from the helicopter - it's only for when you're already on the map and need to get between points quickly. The catch is you need to be collecting those addresses in order to unlock the fast travel for later when/if you return.

Once you've seen one, you can't miss 'em, they're pretty distinctive.

(edit) I forgot to mention a version of them are on MB as well, next to the helipads. It's faster using them to get around MB, then the chopper.

Perhaps.

I don't know, it was a 10/10 up to a point, but I don't know where it flipped for me.

It sounds dramatic. It's still a 9+/10 game for me, but it was a 10 for probably the first 16 or so hours, somewhere around there.

A patch just dropped for Phantom Pain? ~500mb, what is this? I've been playing for a couple days already.

Edit: Nevermind, looked it up.

The game's blowing my mind, Prax.

Seriously there's big shit the game doesn't tell you at all. One of those games that might actually be better with a Wiki open simultaneously. Especially on repeated playthroughs/retries.

Edit: Tobias Fünke would definitely lose his shit. I'd love to see a re-enactment of the lawyer-house-break-in with Venom Snake flopping about in an Afghan shack

I assume it's a lot easier than in Ground Zeroes because soldiers actually have to radio in to sound an alert? So if you make a mistake, there's still a chance to recover.

No, they insta-alert any guards in the vicinity/base.

If you're in the wilderness, then yes, they do need to radio to a base. But if you're spotted in a base it's base-wide alert immediately.

I already like MGSV more than I ever liked GTA V... but then again, I haven't finished yet.

Yes, you still have a chance to recover if you know where is the dude that spotted you, the reflex mode just automaticaly pointed it out for you.
