Kotaku: Fans Are Thirsty For A New Nintendo Direct

From Kotaku:

But Nintendo is in a weird spot right now. For many, the late Satoru Iwata was practically the lifeblood of Nintendo Direct. Fans remember Nintendo Directs fondly because of Iwata’s goofy antics. After he passed away, fans often shared GIFs, images, and artwork that riffed off of Iwata’s Direct appearances. Nintendo has said that Directs will still continue without Iwata, yes, but it’s not clear when, exactly, that will be, nor who will be coming in to replace Iwata. I imagine it’s a big decision, given that whoever presents the major Directs will probably also become the face of the company.

More than that, it seems like Nintendo doesn’t actually have much to show off for its winter releases in 2015. There’s Mario Tennis and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, and...not much else! Have a look for yourself here. What, exactly, would Nintendo even show off in a new Direct?

I think there's a lot Nintendo could have shown off in a Direct. The recent Mario Tennis & Animal Crossing trailers could have had better breakdowns for the Direct, Xenoblade X could probably use a little more attention, potential DLC announcement for Splatoon (as mentioned), Smash Bros, and Mario Maker (it has to be getting new content, right?). And maybe an update of Star Fox Wii U, plus whatever other random Nintendo games Nintendo may have ready to announce (Twilight Princess HD anyone?).

Although maybe most of that doesn't exist and there really isn't anything to show at all, which is more concerning than the lack of a Direct itself. But, I think/hope we'll see one before the end of the year, because as the article says, the fans are thirsty for it

It is perplexing we haven't gotten one yet. Maybe they haven't found a suitable replacement for presentor. Reggie and Bill especially would be fine I think

I thought it was possible one was coming soon - given all the little updates that are accumulating for their various titles, plus some unannounced ones like the Twilight Princess HD remaster - but now that they seem to just be content with making updates through PR and random video releases, I'm not so sure.

I sincerely wonder whether we're going to get another Direct for the rest of the year at this point. Nintendo may very well wait until 2016 to sort of "relaunch" its marketing initiatives with a new Direct.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I'm pleased articles like this exist, because they're more likely to get Nintendo's attention. I think there's a lot they could show:

Details of Club Nintendo's Replacement
Nintendo's mobile game
Pikmin 4
Smash Ballot
Etc

Both Nintendo and the Fans need Nintendo directs.

Though I get the feeling that they are trying to burn off the ones that Iwata pre-recorded before making new ones.

Though they did that stream for Triforce Heroes with Aonuma, so perhaps they are slowly getting to bring back the direct.

They already showed off and discussed their main holiday heavy hitters. What exactly would they show off?

A...uh...I got nothing.

I mean, they've already stated directs will continue. And given that this initiative has been going on for as long as it has, they're obviously aware they're popular.

It'll happen, but like everything with Nintendo, they'll do it when they're ready to do it.

Give them time. It's not easy to replace Iwata. He was as attached to the Direct format as Freddie Mercury was to Queen.

I'm expecting one before the end of the year...but honestly who the hell knows. They could be silent until E3 for all we know.

Twilight Princess HD seems like something that is coming sooner rather than later given the nature of how it was discovered...so I would really expect that to be announced in a Direct rather than just...announced out of nowhere.

That's what I've been thinking whenever I see people ask/mention a Nintendo Direct. I am curious to see who they will bring in to replace Iwata and how people will react to the new person. A Iwataless direct will feel weird.

Nintendo Directs started without Iwata appearing in them at all

Holiday 2015 is kinda stagnant for them so I don't expect anything until next year. Guess they could do something for Xenoblade.

They have been regardless with the exploration videos that have been adapted from similar ones they did for the release of the game in Japan.
