DRIVECLUB |OT2| You Can't Rush Evolution

Bit of context for this vid - I was on a 6 race unbeaten streak and for those that aren't aware, driveclub bases it's final positions off the time taken to reach the end, not track position... It's the fairest way but can be frustrating...

That's really interesting. I don't play online much, but this explains the few times where i came in second and won the race, or overtook the leading car at the last moment only to be the runner up. I always put it down to lag, good to know there's a better, and more fair explanation for it.

Yeah you'll notice that the race timer restarts as soon as you move at the start of the race - you often see a few people slow to move off (which will be the lag) and this means everyone is on an equal footing. It's just a bit gutting sometimes when you've battled with someone and crossed the line first only for them to get the win. Bonus points for whoever can name the song I was murdering/singing!

How big is 1.24?

I've got 9.35GB of free space get it won't download.

I often get this, at the moment the latest witcher patch won't download despite the system saying it's got enough space - only way around it I've found is to clear a bit more space.

Deleted a bit more and now it's going. So annoying though.

Thanks.

Are we even sure, that we will get a Season 2 Pass?

All we know at the moment is that there are 2 free bike tours landing next week and they are working on a VR mode. The Evo dev who we spoke to in our private lobby said he'd only been working on bikes for months but didn't say what the rest of the guys are working on.

You mean 1 bike tour with 2 new bikes and 1 car tour.

Is that right? They both appear in the bikes tour section (even if one has a car pic on it).

My Internet is down at the moment :-( so just thought I'd see what car can keep up with the CBR around chungara lake... Looking like it might need to be a hyper at the mo! 57 seconds is the CBR'S time if you want to try it...

Cross post from other thread.

Thoughts?

Supposedly this is the further graphical improvement they've been working on. Tell us more Rushy!

hints even further that it is a car expansion..

I'm also really looking forward to another season pass and more locations and tracks.

Wasn't there a presentation last year, think of the weather update, in which a new location was spotted in the menu? Think it was a tropical location but not sure.

New cars, bikes, tracks and locations every year and I would be playing this all generation long for sure.

edit: The location was Antigua, just looked it up.

The tile with the generic image underneath the EBR tour is probably just a placeholder for another bike tour in the future. If you go into the cars tour menu you can see the upcoming All-Stars tour underneath the Startline tour, including the tour events that will come with it.

Ah right, cheers :) So I wonder if there will be 2 season passes (bikes & cars) or just 1 that covers both... If there were 2 would you buy both?

Depends on the price and included content. If they did that, i could also imagine there being a pack that includes both. Evolution have certainly earned the benefit of the doubt with the first season pass. I also just platinumed Bikes yesterday and it's a great addition, so i'm definitely open for more. It would be nice though if they could manage to give away new tracks/regions for free again, not because i don't want to pay for them, but because i believe maps/tracks in any game should ideally be free to avoid splitting the user base. I'll gladly support developers that do that by buying their other dlc.

Forgive me if this is not allowed here but I created a new community called "Driveclub Australia" for anyone down under that still plays the game. Interest in our region seems to have dried up so I'm trying to drum up a bit more now that private lobbies are here. Only 6 members strong at the moment but hopefully more join up. Thanks guys!

Ok Evo the lykan on nakasendo was some of the best fun I've had. Really enjoyed that.

Hope there's more tours/stars as I'm about maxed out (drifting may as well be tightrope walking to me, ie, I can't do it!) and any further elite lvls will be out of my reach unless there's new stars to earn.

Finally got all the stars in the Bike Tour! The 9 lap race got me some sweaty hands, funny because some races at the top tier were easier.

Well done to TRP for another win.

Well done also to Sirenty who gave TRP a real fight and claimed victory on Munnar, the only none TRP win.

Oh and ignore the bug in the spreadsheet....

Does holding UP on the stick make you faster on bikes? For instance on straightaways hold up, and then on some turns you can hold up/turn at same time to gain speed? Been wondering this for a bit. It makes sense that it would increase speed but I sort of wish/hope it doesn't.

I don't understand the times. What is 843.130? 843 seconds?

Yes that is total time in seconds. If you don't post a time on an event you get a default time which is between 15-30 seconds slower than the slowest time that's been posted. As you only completed 1 event you have 7 default times + your posted time.

Yes it does... Your rider leans forward so reduces drag - try doing some time trials to see how much difference it makes.

That was a good rally, DHC, especially for bikes. Thanks for putting it together,

Lots of tracks I rarely play so I got to spend time really learning them. Also lots of tracks where you had to be smooth through corners because if you screwed up one, it would probably screw your next two or three.

Being smooth for a couple corners wasn't bad, but doing it for entire laps on tracks like Munnar, Yedapalli, and Nigri Hills was infuriating. My blood pressure was really getting up there at the end as I tried to get a lap on those that I was happy with. I think I've worked out the best lines for most of the sections, but I could not string them together for an entire lap for the life of me. I think I'll spend some time with those on my own.

How long do you all usually spend on doing those laps from the rally? It was the first one I've done on gaf, I tried maybe 3 or 4x max and just felt like I wasn't improving much and said screw it.

I imagine some of you guys are just sick, I've played the game a ton but I don't know the tracks to save my life. I don't even know the names of any of them.

When i get into it, i can grind out a track for 1-2 hours straight but that is only when i feel that i can keep myself in the zone and focus clearly on what i am doing all the time. On certain tracks my concentration peak is reached around 20-40mins into hotlapping. It's all about car & track and how intensive the combination is.

EDIT: I would say how much time i spent, but i focused 2 days on it and then i forgot completely..

Cheers, glad you enjoyed it :)

I think you've got way more patience than I have! I got pretty close on Yedapalli but like you say, it's so hard to do all your quickest sectors on the same lap especially on those P2Ps.

Drotahorror :- I've played the game online a lot since launch but mainly on the circuits rather than the P2Ps. With the rallies I tend to do 15 - 20 mins on the tracks I'm falling behind on but near the end it gets harder to improve.

Thanks Shannow to send me the challenges, unfortunately I was out all weekend so couldn't compete. Will do my best to play the next rally, cheers.

I'll do it way more than 3-4 times, and restart way more times than I finish. For example, the Munnar challenge. I don't know if I'd done that track at all with bikes before the challenge. I spent the week off and on experimenting with lines, testing which corners I could take full speed, which I could coast, and which I could go faster by braking and getting on the gas early instead of coasting. (First corner was like this. Tapping the brakes and cutting it tighter gave a better line for the second corner than coasting, allowing you to get on the gas sooner and go through the second corner faster. Lots of corners in the first third of the Hills were like this too.) I also test which corners can be cut and by how much before a penalty. By the end of the challenge I'd knocked several seconds off my initial time and still left some on the table.

The main thing I do is intentionally do a slower lap to set up a ghost. Not super slow, but more coasting and no corner cutting. Then I keep running it and comparing to my ghost. Try different lines, different braking, and see how the result compares to my ghost. If I don't gain significant time on it, I try something different. Restart if I know I blew a corner, got a penalty, whatever. Eventually you'll get up to the speed of the top time ghost and can start comparing to it the same way. Also, make sure not to let your tires squeal, try to limit lean, and press forward on the stick to avoid wheelies when getting hard on the gas or cresting a hill.

Something else that helped me is I replaced my sticks with X1 sticks, mainly to get more fine-grain control in Trials Fusion but I think it helps in DC too. I feel I have much better steering control with a taller stick.

Well done mate. But what I really want to know is, where's the Sir Arthur avatar??

Coming at you... :)
