Sony is working on Remote Play function for PC/MAC.

Excuse my ignorance, but is this feature just so that if your main TV is occupied by someone else, you can just stream it to your PC/monitor and view it on that wirelessly instead of plugging it directly into your monitor? Do we expect to be able to use KB+M?

Yes, you can stream the screen to your PC instead of viewing it on the TV. In addition, the main selling point to me is that you can remote play your PS4 through the Internet anywhere with a good connection. The input lag through this is big enough to make twitch shooters like Call of Duty unplayable, but small enough to make many other kinds of games like Assassin's Creed quite playable.

And no, don't expect keyboard and mouse. Controller required.

I don't think anyone fully realizes what this means yet.

And this is a classic example of why competition is good.

Hopefully Sony comes out with a solution as good as Microsoft's.

Awesome. I'm not always sure of the use case for things like this... But why not?

That'd be a use case. For me, I share my 1 monitor between my PC/PS4, so this is definitely nice if I want to multitask. Nice way to capture footage as well.

Official DS4 drivers for PC would be way bigger than streaming. Finally no garbage software to get it running.

Assuming they're fine with doing what that software already does and have it act as an xinput wrapper as well, otherwise compatibility will remain the exact issue it is now for games that aren't already natively supporting it.

So no need for a tv can i use my mac screen as a monitor?

It's probably not the best substitute for a TV. Under the most ideal conditions you could probably do shooters well, but it's a no go all around for games where lag kills (like fighting games).

Hell, even with shooters it might be too noticeable.

One step closer to PSVR PC support

lol

That would make PlayStation VR one of the most relevant VR kit on the market. No I don't mean PS4 games/apps going to PC, but PSVR support for PC games/apps.

Sounds really interesting, a true next gen feature (which I personally will most likely never use anyhow...). Still cool, though.

That said, Windows 10 is now a real powerhouse, it can even run PS4 titles...

I'll be honest and say I feel like this is a waste of resources in that it caters to some super small niche. Sony has s lot of things to work on besides this to make their OS and ecosystem better.

The power of competition

Sweet, my main PC is hooked to the same living room tv as my PS4 but I can use the secondary PC in our game room with this. Good job, competition is alive.

You guys act as if Sony didn't have this as a clear goal from the moment they started researching and implementing remote play technology. Sure, competition is good, but acting as if every single thing is the gaming industry is a direct tit for tat response to some other company is far too simplistic. It's not like Sony engineers said 'oh crap! why didn't we think of that! let's get on it!'

lol this dude is probably so mad... he wanted to charge people to use remote play unofficially on PC... if he didnt get C&D yet... he most certainly will now.

Kind of silly to throw out the context and think "this dude is going to be so mad" when his motivation for creating was for wanting a solution, and charging is for help with living expenses. The guy worked on that himself over a year. Why is it wrong for him to charge for something that currently is unavailable and an effort if his own? Moreover, I wouldn't count on Sony giving keyboard and mouse support to games as his solution does. Heck, I wouldn't even bebsure that Song's solution will be as good till it actually comes out

We don't have any evidence either way, so I wouldn't jump to the "I'm sure this has been in the works for aaaaaages" conclusion. Especially considering that we don't even have a time-frame of it's development, just a confirmation it's being developed. For all we know they got started yesterday.

For some insane reason SW Battlefront PC version omitted split screen, so I'd be super interested in playing PS4 splitscreen shareplay with a friend and save those 60 bucks.

yeah but charging for something like this is a bit of a grey area imo.

im all for paying for the hard work of a hacker who releases some awesome software... but when its something like this that can very well be incinerated by a Sony C&D... well... that would be pretty shitty. especially to people who paid who get screwed if it does get blasted by sony.

I think he'd have a better chance of not getting a C&D by releasing it free and then have a donate button or something.
But he most likely will receive one either way.

This would be nice, but I must admit I've had 0 issues with DS4 Wrapper.

But why? What is the benefit of it? The main reason i bought a PS4 is to play couch coop on a big TV screen on a couch and to avoid sitting alone in front of my small PC screen. If i want to play on my PC screen i will definately use my PC since it has way higher performance. I don't get the hype about this. I can see that PS4 Controller support is a big plus, but the rest? Maybe someone can explain the benefits to me, which would cause such hype? Or is it only because GAF? xD Whatever, today is friday and i love you guys!

my thoughts exactly. i get it. he worked hard on it, but in the hack scene he HAD to know that this could blow up in his face if he charged. Charging for something you hacked for consoles is like asking for immediate attention from big companies like Sony.

And? It's not uncommon for companies to have plans for something, only to hasten said plans once a competitor beats them to the punch.
