COMICS! |OT| November 2015. The much-anticipated sequel to October's OT.

I really want to see evil droids in live action somehow.

Also, concerning the Star Wars comics, I wonder how many people are involved in making these stories now canon. Seems like something they want to keep more strict now that they were able to say all EU stuff are just legend stories now.
IIRC the writers go to Lucasfilm quite regularly and discuss ideas with the story group. It doesn't sound too strict though.

what about something like Lumberjanes if we go non-capes? I think that's what people recommended last time with similar criteria.

Silk, she wont have to read the new series as she turns into an evil scumbag but the first trade is great and is pretty standalone.

ms marvel (kamala kahn)
lumberjanes
this one summer
unbeatable squirrel girl
batgil (cameron stewart babs tarr run)

Gotham Academy?

It's not Marvel, but Lil' Gotham is amazing for all ages.

Thank you for your suggestions, I decided to go with Silk and Lumberjanes.

I picked up the We can Never Go Home hardcover for Local Comic Shop Day this morning and read it all in one sitting, what a fucking rad comic. I really wish I would have grabbed Space Riders as well now.

Sadly I didn't get the Bitch Planet hc, but there were major shenanigans from the shop with that. They went from saying they were getting five copies, to posting a picture showing two, to only "having" one when we got there. Even though we got there when they opened, they wouldn't sell it to me and we're doing a raffle for it instead.

Anyway, We Can Never Go Home was worth the trip and I need to check out more from Black Mask.

My store got like 30 Bitch Planet hardcovers and charged $50 for it. Scum.

No game ever made feel that bad like the beginning of the fourth episode of Life is Strange

Pretty much, yeah.

Is Camelot 3000 worth getting in DC's big Cyber Monday sale? Finished another read of The Once & Future King (probably my favourite book of all time now) and in the mood for more Arthurian legend.

Are there any other good King Arthur comics, preferably on CMX? Stories inspired by the legend are okay as well, not just generic fantasy though, I've read a lot/most of those.

They were made for today's comic shop event. But it seems to have been a really small run leading to shops gouging and or doing bad shit.

There aren't that many issues out, though. Just a hardcover of the first trade is nothing to get upset over. You know there's going to be a deluxe hardcover eventually anyway.

Hey gketter, I was wrong about the iPad pro. However they did it, the weight isn't bad at all and seeing it in person was frickin glorious. Comics on that thing must be godly.

Kelly Sue said as much today on twitter. Not nice to see shops way overcharging for something on a day thats meant to promote their stores and that shopping experience.

iPad Pro and Surface Pro are the ultimate comic readers. I LOVE my Surface Pro for comics.

Yea. I'm loving it. With the case it's heavier than iPad Air 2 but after a day I was adjusted and wouldn't go back. Like I said the pro is pretty niche due to price and usage. But for how I use it (It never leaves the house, for comics, web, etc) it's great.

Three episodes into Jessica Jones, and I really wish this show had no ties to the movies. You acknowledge in show that the Avengers are a thing and fought aliens, but believing some has mind control powers is too crazy to be true. Otherwise the show is good and quite suspenseful, Krysten Ritter is fantastic.

Life is strange is next in my game queue. But I returned to Bloodborne again. I bought the new dlc but I've been working on all the old content. One more zone and boss and then it's DLC time. Never was a huge souls fan before but I'm loving this one. My GOTY edging out MGS V. It's the only other game besides MGS V where I sit down and hours just disappear in a blink of an eye. And unlike MGS V it doesn't have those noticable large game flaws.

I'm actually been researching platinuming Bloodborne. I never do that with games but this one doesn't seem bad

I'm so excited! I didn't know when I would get around buying the deluxe edition of DC The New Frontier, so I went to eBay to see what kind of prices were on there. I ended up finding all of the single issues, 1-6 and New Frontier Special, for $5 starting bid. I hadn't even considered getting singles, but theyre like 60 page issues and in new mint condition, so I put in a starting big of $5 a few days ago and left it be. I ended up being the only one who bid on it and just got it! So now I have all of the content from the deluxe edition except for the interview/commentary, for $5. This is awesome.

Has anyone read Young Terrorists, Space Riders, or any of the other Black Mask Studios books?

Young Terrorists is legit, I think Launchpad liked it too (he'll be more eloquent about it than I am) . I enjoy Space Riders but it's not for everyone, really love the art.

Nice pick up on We Can Never Go Home, that book is amazing. More people need to read it. They are continuing the series next year.

I have Clandestino and Xed (not sure if it's out yet.. I'm way behind on my backlog) but haven't read them yet.

People who don't like Sunstone probably don't crap on it too much because you're a popular poster and it's clear how much you love it. I'm happy you have something you love so much. And I respect the loyal support you show Sejic.

I think I'm gonna really like Switch, but Sejic shone most brightly through his art on Rat Queeens, IMO. I find Sunstone boring. But we all have different tastes here. I think more people should read Rachel Rising but they don't. It just doesn't fit into popular tastes, I guess. C'est la vie.

I actually meant to post about it but I finished the first trade of Rachel Rising. It was awesome! I need to order the rest asap. I loved the art and pacing of it.

My IST order shipped. I ordered:
Solo Deluxe Edition
One Trick Rip-Off
Flash by Johns volume 1
Cowboy Wally Show

+ My copy of Why I Hate Saturn is here. Excited to read that tomorrow.

Are you tomorrow for your impressions of the next 14 issues :p

Hmmm??

Also, I think I'll go ahead and read through UFOlogy now. I've been waiting to finish that one up for a bit. And Locke & Key since it's finished. A few years back I started that series, but decided to hold out. Now seems like as good a time as any.

I was implying you wouldn't be able to stop that's what happened me. Now I'm month to month and getting one issue a month is killing me. The breaks for 3-4 months between arcs is also killer.

Oh...Ha. Yeaaaah...I'm forcing myself to read some other stuff right now. Because honestly, if I don't, I'm going to hit the end and be sad.

Right on, definitely gonna grab Young Terrorists.

The back matter in the WCNGH hardcover was pretty interesting, there was a piece from the writer of the series talking about gun violence and how it is often glorified in pop culture. He said they tried to show that every time Duncan and/or Maddie used violence that it effected them and had ramifications on their characters.

I bought the first issues of Ringside and Black Magick. We'll see how it goes.

I like the SP more as an ultra book than a tablet, but it's still a nice device. Isn't there some issue with the cmx app and Windows though?

I think they just expect you to use the website now, but I don't even bother with it anymore. I just use Cover.

Just got back from driving 600 miles today. I need some sleep.

been reading King City by Brandon Graham. this is probably my first prolonged exposure to Graham's earlier work. his cartooning is uneven and rough sometimes but its really impressive how inventive and clever the storytelling is even at this early stage. when you go back to the earlier works of artists, you often see them stumble with storytelling but Graham seems to have had it down at least since King City. i can see how the cartooning style could put off readers but im really liking it. the plot is pretty sparse sometimes but i like it. i wouldnt mind if the plot didnt go forward at all and if the book just explored King City. im about halfway through but its been great.

I loved the setting. And the art. The story improved as the series went along but it still feels a little undercooked. I think it would be great if he revisitied it or wrote more in the world.

Read like the first third or so of the Carl Barks book titled A Christmas for Shacktown and wow, it's crazy how much of a difference the 5 years or so between this and the first one I read makes. The titular stories both have that Christmas theme, but there's a vast gulf in quality between them. And this one has been pretty much entirely great all around so far. It really is crazy to think how old this is, and I have little doubt that it probably holds up the best of comics of that vintage. Hell, I love the crap out of Osamu Tezuka, and think that Astro Boy is pretty good considering how old it is, but I'd still say this stuff is leagues better.

Definitely leaning towards just catching up on Carl Barks (in addition to Don Rosa) for what's out in this collection. It's a shame they aren't all available in two pack form, though, as that'll cause some slight inconsistency in the collection...

Yeah, the couple of volumes I read did show a little unevenness in quality. I read Christmas on Bear Mountain and didn't really enjoy it greatly. The I read Only a Poor Old Man and loved it!

This is going to be a rather long haul though. Full collection is supposed to hit 31+ volumes. And I just ordered the first box set...

Are there any good comedy/humor comics out there?

Howard the Duck
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
Damage Control

Yes, namely that it doesn't exist :p

I was thinking about using their Android emulation thing, sideload the app manually, but that might be dead now.

I pre-ordered the Trade but I really want that HC.

Should I buy Hawkeye (Fraction) Vol 1 OHC for $20? I have not read any of it before. I do, however, have the first issue in the Marvel Now Omnibus which I could read to see if I like that.
