COMICS! |OT| November 2015. The much-anticipated sequel to October's OT.

I picked up the We can Never Go Home hardcover for Local Comic Shop Day this morning and read it all in one sitting, what a fucking rad comic. I really wish I would have grabbed Space Riders as well now.

This is my favorite current series. It's so incredible. I have no idea if that hardcover contains that final issue, but I have been eagerly waiting forever for it.

As for Black Mask's other stuff, I can vouch for Young Terrorists. It's tough to judge on just one issue, but it was 80 pages and had a ton of story to tell.

Young Terrorists is legit, I think Launchpad liked it too (he'll be more eloquent about it than I am) . I enjoy Space Riders but it's not for everyone, really love the art.

Nice pick up on We Can Never Go Home, that book is amazing. More people need to read it. They are continuing the series next year.

I have Clandestino and Xed (not sure if it's out yet.. I'm way behind on my backlog) but haven't read them yet.

Not that much more eloquent, I can assure you.

EDIT: I'm actually crossing my fingers Black Mask does a Cyber Monday sale. I'd like to pick up some of there other titles I'm sort of on the fence about, and the rest of Godkiller (though I haven't even read the first trade I own).

Man, just read the first issue and I loved it. Will get.

Glad you enjoyed it. That run is special.

AmeriKate is the best.

I love America

Well of course there would be a time displaced America in 1702 times. Or a time displaced 1702 Kate in modern times. I'm not picky.

I'd be much more ok with 1602 Katie ending up in modern day. That would be fun.

That reminds me, I need to finish Marvel 1602. I think I stopped like a quarter of the way through a while back because it felt like nothing was happening.

Another long train ride at night, another Frank Miller Batman joint. Just got through a bunch of Dark Knight Strikes Again, and I'm really fucking into this book. Going into it, all I really knew was people thought it was a mess, and Grant Morrison said it was just this giant operatic absurd story, completely revelling in cape mythology. But man, so far, this book is just hitting all the right spots, and I'm even into the more bright, digital hazy and loosly detailed but super kinetic art.

I gave it a shot after Ales Kot was raving about it on Twitter and enjoyed it. His exact quote is it "is punk rock as fuck".

MGS V is the firsr Mainline MGS I didnt finished and I still dont even thinking about finsihing it. I dont even care to read up the story at Wikipedia.

And man, was I once into this series.

I'm in the same boat bro.

MGS is one of my top franchises of ANYTHING of all time. My time spent with MGSV has been such a goddamn letdown. I have no motivation to keep playing and I have finished some absolutely horrid games in my time. I just do not agree with the story presentation at all and while the moment-to-moment gameplay is blissful, the overall game design is not enough to save it.

I can totally see that. It's loud as hell, chaotic as fuck, gracefully messy. I'm seriously excited for my next long ass nighttime subway ride to keep this Miller high going.

What people often misread about Miller's returns to Batman is they think he's doubling down on ~grim n gritty~ shit, but DKSA is a really fun comic

It's the opposite of DKR. Its layouts are looser and lack the rigidity of the 16 panel grid, its character writing is broader and more archetypal, and the fucking colours...!! DKR is a fairly restrained book in terms of palette, but remember the two pages in DKR where Superman is struck by the lightning? That's Varley's approach to EVERY page in this book and it's garish as hell and it rules

i don't think I would describe it as punk at all but there's a vitality and energy to it that makes it really work

Three episodes into Jessica Jones, and I really wish this show had no ties to the movies. You acknowledge in show that the Avengers are a thing and fought aliens, but believing some has mind control powers is too crazy to be true. Otherwise the show is good and quite suspenseful, Krysten Ritter is fantastic.
Here's what you have to consider:
-In AoS they state multiple times that they've never encountered telepathy in any form. Or even telekinesis. So, at that point (immediately after The Avengers), psychic abilities are undiscovered, primarily telepathy and mind control. Hell, even in DD they don't know he has powers
(save for Claire and Foggy
. They think he's just a ninja.
-In JJ, the average civilian, while aware of people with super powers, has no idea about the details. They've only seen the big punchy explodey ones. The idea of a guy who can just control you against your will? Unheard of. Even then, the idea that he'd be walking around and look like any other guy? Absurd. The people they see with powers stand out; a Norse god; a guy dressed like an American flag; a big green giant; a red and gold flying mech suit. Someone who is just a dude and his only stand out traits are that he likes wearing purple and he's English? Nobody is seeing that coming unless they no about it. Even then by the time you catch it, it's probably too late.
-Enhances/gifted/powered people simply aren't that common. Not yet. Surely after CA:CW they will be, but not just yet.

And you will go on to find out that the rest of the book is in the same vein. I was rather disappointed by the book and how forgettable it was.

Should I buy Hawkeye (Fraction) Vol 1 OHC for $20? I have not read any of it before. I do, however, have the first issue in the Marvel Now Omnibus which I could read to see if I like that.

Yep. Buy it.The second one should be releasing around Christmas.

That's exactly how I felt after the Atom escape intro. And I really like the internet-shift of the news segments, still being dumb, but now also porn-ed up.

You know what, I've never read Sin City in its entirety, I may have to pick that up after DKSA 'cause I'm really enjoying delving into Miller's work right now.

I grabbed Young Terrorists last night but haven't started it yet, but I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Ah, I don't watch AoS, so I had no idea about that. It's still a bit of a weird disconnect that people are able to accept a billionaire industrialist in a robot suit, a green monster, a legitimate god, and a super soldier who was fought in WW2, but a dude with mind powers is just too crazy to be real. I appreciated it when Trish called out the attorney on it during her radio interview with Hope, that was a nice touch. It doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the show at all, but I do think it would work better as a separate, standalone thing.

Read through Rumble volume 1 last night. I love Arcudi's work on BPRD so I'm not surprised that I'm enjoying this so far. The mythology in this world, just like BPRD, is really interesting. I like Bobby and Del's friendship and their normal life stuff mixed in while they're caught up with the insanity of Rathraq's battle. The way Del takes to Rathraq is pretty funny too, that scene where the two of them are going to Paul Bunyan land was great.

I also think James Harren's art is awesome in this. He draws some really great fight scenes and has some really creative monster designs. I picked up the whole series so I'll read those next. I think he did work in BPRD Hell on Earth so I'm pumped to get to those parts.

Also read through Hellboy and The BPRD 1953: The Witch Tree & Rawhead and Bloody Bones #1 and Squirrel Girl #2.

Hellboy was enjoyable as always, felt like it went by kinda quickly. I liked the first issue more but this was still solid. I'm looking forward to the bigger arc when that starts.

Squirrel Girl continues to be great. I love this book.

The Tithe 1-5: A fun little heist book with a religious slant. #5 was an interesting start to the second arc. Hawkins puts a ton supplemental information in the back matter.

The Beauty 1-2: Really enjoyed the first two issues. Detective Vaughn rules. I hope she doesn't explode.

Fuck man. I've been waiting since August for #5. Black Mask, why. Wednesday cannot come soon enough. :(

Just put in an order at cheapgraphicnovels

Metabarons by Jodo and Gimenez
Screaming Planet by Jodo, J.H. Williams III, Ladronn, Adi Granov and others
Lazarus vol 2 and 3

Could not resist picking up those Jodo books at such a great price. Seriously. Metabarons was at 30 and Screaming Planet at 15.

my total was 67.45 with shipping and extra insurance.

How much was shipping?

Shipping is a flat 8 bucks. So its only worth it if you buy at least a few more books. Insurance is 2.50 to cover $100. I just get it because I rather be sure than not.

Yeah, that's a bit high if one is only getting one or two books.

(And I am disinclined to shop with them in general due to their price gouging.)

Im not aware of any price gouging. You've got me interested. I only shop with them once a year during their Black Friday special. The rest of the year Im ordering from Jet or IST

I actually liked it, but will admit the open-world and Peace Walker mission design harms the Metal Gear vibe. MGS should be semi-linear with a story focus.

Also, I badly want a Metal Gear comic/manga series, even without Kojima. That's kind of a super secret wish of mine.

When an omnibus is going out of stock, they start raising their price towards cover or hoarding books. So most people buy from other places (IST, Amz, etc). But once the book goes OOP, they start charging crazy mark-ups.

I mean, they aren't doing anything wrong per se. But it just rankles a little.
