There have been some pretty good games released in 2014 and 2015, but not enough to make either a truly competitive year.

2014 was the best year in gaming in the past decade. Well, for my tastes at least.

2014 was not that bad, but the weird spike of love for Dragon Age is a mystery to me.

I'm still playing The Witcher 3 and although it took a fair amount of time for me to fall in love with it, once I did, I fell hard. The quests and NPC's absolutely blow me away. On the PC the world is absolutely gorgeous, jaw-droppingly, stunningly gorgeous. And most importantly for an RPG, the decisions that you make while playing have big time influence on the world and the characters around you.

It's hands down the most impactful RPG that I have ever played, made even moreso by being a fan of the lore and the books that spawned it. I have no problem with any accolade that the Witcher 3 gets.

Fallout 4 being the best FPS of 2015 really goes to show how shit of a year it was for my favorite genre.

2015 wasn't a great year let's be honest, but I can name 8 games right off the top of my head better than The Witcher 3 that deserved the title GOTY more:

1. Majora's Mask 3D
2. Metal Gear Solid 5
3. Tearaway Unfolded
4. Xenoblade Chronicles X
5. Splatoon
6. Super Mario Maker
7. Steins;Gate
8. Undertale

All of them achieved what they set out to do better than what The Witcher 3 did. Witcher 3 brought nothing new to the table, except "slightly better than other openworld games sidequests".

3. A mediocre platformer
4. A worse RPG + horrible OST (not the best ever)
5. A good multiplayer shooter that's worse than Rainbow Six Siege

Don't get all the hate it gets.

It gets hate because the game forces the player to fully utilize Geralt's arsenal, while in the new games you can brute force your way through with inefficient tactics. I'd also go TW3>TW1>TW2.

Fallout 4 needs to get the fuck off these lists lol. I don't see why this is a GOTY contender. At the beginning of the gen, we saw average games get much harsher review score treatment than it would have in the past and I thought that things were changing (Ryse, Killzone SF, The Order 1886, etc). Even good games were scored harsher than what we were used to seeing. I though that Fallout 4 would be put under the same level of scrutiny, but for some reason it's not.

I've refused to play it since the last update removed scabbards on everyone apart from Geralt.
It's only minor, but once you notice, you cannot un-notice it!!!

I'm hoping the next patch puts them back in.

The only thing I can think you are talking about is the stuff all over the map, which I can understand but at the same time that's not the content anyone who likes the game thinks about when saying it's GOTY.
It's also a very small amount of content compared to all the quests in the game.
