Dying Light: Enhanced Edition Goes Gold, New Trailer

Show me the male zombies in speedos and I'll excuse the female zombies in bikinis.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game. It's on my GOTY list, I just won't support a rerelease with new graphics that doesn't fix a problem I had with the game. If the protagonist was player choice on male or female then I could excuse stuff like that outright. But I'm no longer buying new IPs or series with new protagonists every iteration that don't let you choose your gender and I will not support games that don't respect women either.

Wow, really? Is everyone this uptight and politically correct? Good grief.

lmao oh my god its one female zombie npc in a hot place. Women do wear bikini tops in hot places from time to time, you know? There are plenty of other variations of the female zombie in various types clothing from, vests, shirts, shorts, trousers etc. Hell some of the female zombies are even wearing hijabs.

Ridiculous.

Doesn't respect women? This person saves you in the beginning.

What platform is this? I've heard good things but I've passed so far partially because I thought it had a horrible FOV on console, like FarCry 4.

If you get "sickness" from low FOV, you're going to want to play on PC. I passed on console for the same reason.

I have to pump the FOV to max on PC to not get sick. Tried at default and I would feel it coming on.

Speaking of FC4, I need to retry on PC because I couldn't do it on Xbox, lol.

Question.

I've got an Asian version of the game. My account on PS4 is, however, a U.S. one.

What are my chances of being able to play The Following if I download it using my U.S. account?

DLC on PSN is generally region-specific.

This is from the original PR, and they never mention visual enhancements:

“We didn’t want to follow the beaten track and just re-release our game in a new wrapping with the current DLC added on – explains Maciej Binkowski, lead game designer. “That’s why for the last half year we’ve been working on a ton of enhancements that we’re now going to make available to everyone. We’re adding bonus post-game content, a Nightmare difficulty level, nearly 100 new animations, new NPC models, advanced AI behaviors, and more. One year after the original release, Dying Light will be even bigger.”

The original game will get all this via an update too.

Locked 20 fps confirmed.

Can't wait to load up my old save file. I should be ready to jump into the new area since I already beat the main game.

“It’s still 1536×1080. We believe a smoother frame-rate is more important than the exact resolution,” Tymon confirmed to GamingBolt. It seems that Techland have focused their resources towards improving gameplay and technical performance along with better post processing effects instead of improving rendering resolution, which by the way is absolutely fine. People won’t even the notice the slightly reduced resolution on the Xbox One as it is.

wondering if they are trying to hit that 60 fps on console. Would be so fucking awesome

So for the PC version...how does this work? You buy the original Dying Light and you get the enhancements for free? All I see available to purchase are the X1 and PS4 versions. I don't currently own DL on PC, but want to get this version of the game on that platform.

Still can't believe I managed to get the game & the expansion pack for $20 (or whatever it was) thanks to the glitch last year. The game's brilliant.

Their official website mentions graphics performance improvements, audio upgrades, and visual quality upgrades. Seems like maybe their PR dropped the ball on mentioning it? Or maybe because those improvents are being patched in for everyone and are not exclusive to the Enhanced Edition itself?

Definitely going to pick up the Enhanced Edition. Just waiting for the store pick up option to be available for Best Buy so I can pre-order the game.

You can't be serious. You just can't be.

You aren't on one side of the debate or the other with this stance. You are on the side of insanity. Because one Zombie model out of dozens has a bikini top on, is not sexualized in any way, and because they did not patch something out that you were apparently the only person in the word "Offended" by you won't support a game that you have already apparently bought.

This is batshit insane.

There's a line between respecting women and damaging the cause, you just damaged it by being utterly nonsensical about this topic. Like do you really believe what you just said is true and just in any way?

I'm with you. I'm also swearing off books until publishers offer versions with gender-swapped protagonists. With everything done on computers nowadays it's just a simple find-and-replace.

I don't get sick or anything, it just feels really weird not being able to see as much. Just annoying I guess. I'd rather have 900p or less effects or whatever and not feel like I have tunnel vision the entire time.

It's a bummer because I don't have a PC that'll run it.

More animations is a visual enchanthment, Not one thats apparent in screenshots, but the game will look better in motion.

I've played and enjoyed games with much stronger sexism than that. In fact, I don't think what you mentioned is sexist at all. If a game has a strong case of sexism such as, for example, inappropriate portrayal of all female characters, then you would be right to boycott the game. If it's like Witcher 3 where it sometimes drops the ball with female characters though, it's something I can forgive and forget (and just enjoy the game). In this case, criticising a game because a zombie character model has a bikini and because the main protagonist just so happens to be male doesn't really make a compelling argument. Personally I prefer playing as female characters when given the option to do so, but it doesn't detract from the game if I can't.

Just ignore him stop giving him attention. Anyway, The Following takes place during the story not after correct?
Good advice. The following takes place after the main story. Sort of like an epilogue/not epilogue in the vein of Year of the Snake for Sleeping Dogs.

I'm debating on starting the game over on nightmare, I'm about half way through the game an it seems kind of easy being such a high level now.

Have you played it on Hard? It's amazing on Hard.

I think on Nightmare it's going to be next-level shit. Like an absolutely incredible survival experience.

I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED

Hold on.

You're losing your shit over a bikini clad Zombie but then you'll call one of the most respectable female characters so far this generation frigid because she's not overtly sexualised and well represented beyond being a conventional love interest?

Any news on when the review embargo lifts? A PSN pre order would be nice as well. So far it looks like they've taken what I loved about the base game, made it better....and added buggies!

We deserve a better standard of troll.

Anyway, to get OT. I absolutely loved Dying Light, got it through a PSN sale and wow, did not know it was this good. The atmosphere is ridiculous in game. Feels the first I've played to truly represent darkness as a lack of light.

I'd get this but limited funds, I've spent damn near £1000 on games last year. Won't be doing that again.

I'll have to apologise if so, even if I don't think she represents that trope at all.

The PS4 version got that visual upgrade last year and from what I heard the difference is significant. I hope Xbox One will get that too.

A) There are male zombies in speedos, right?

Even if there weren't; there definitely were in Dead Island. The developer have a pretty good track record in this sense.

B) I consider myself pretty switched on to this sort of thing (insanely active in the "Quiet is Embarassing" thread) but nothing in Dying Light particularly struck me as overly problematic. It all fitted the context well enough.

C) You're basically on-point about the protagonist thing, but it's not as easy as you think to add. It's a lot of money and VA/writing was probably pretty low on their budget. Although the protag is such a fucking cookie-cutter guy, anyway, they might as well have added a gender swap option. Still, lots of money and work and lots of content rewriting and new voice acting.

Anyway, to get OT. I absolutely loved Dying Light, got it through a PSN sale and wow, did not know it was this good. The atmosphere is ridiculous in game. Feels the first I've played to truly represent darkness as a lack of light.

Honestly, it's a shockingly underrated game. In my top 3 GotY for last year, up there with MGSV and TW3. The devs are great, too - remember you'll get a lot of these updates for free patched into your game. Including Nightmare difficulty.

Enjoy and spread the word!

It's extra fun on Hard btw - and I'm sure on Nightmare difficulty it will be even more fun.
