Gravity Rush Remastered |OT| Kat's out of the Vita

On mission 12, probably the most memorable part of the game.

I forgot just how far you really fall. It's a couple miles straight down at least. I love the way it changes. And the music sets the atmosphere perfectly. The world building in this game is just utterly fantastic.

it's all about the verticality :) . really loved the way it was done in yharnam/bloodborne, but gravity rush's just something else...

Guess I lucked out on getting my Amazon pre-order in, since I put it in just a day before release...hope Sony step their game up and make more copies for people, stat.

Either would be a step up.

Yeah keep telling yourself that. I'd rather Team Toyama (Siren/Gravity Rush whatever) keep making this series. Not everything needs to be made by PG and it's getting a little tiring seeing every topic on here go: "this would be better if PG made the game". And yuck at saying Korra team should handle Gravity Rush, it wouldn't look half as good if that was the case, visually, let along be missing a lot of the charm and ambience of GR.

Yeah, we don't need to contract PG every time combat in a game is sub-par. As long as a competent developer, which team Gravity clearly is, puts effort into improving something, they can totally make it happen. That being said, if GR2 doesn't have significantly better combat I'll be dissapointed.

Got my copy yesterday, played it for an hour while taking a break from XCOM 2. Man, does it feel really nice on a PS4 controller.

Side note, the copy I got from Amazon managed to have a bug squished on the inside cover. Took it out, wiped it off and now there's just a big, gross looking stain on the nice all-white cover. Both amazed and salty about that at the same time.

That's Gold in all the challenges. I'm not sure if it's from experience doing the same 4 years ago, or the fact the controls are better on PS4 but they were so easy this time around. I was regularly leaving the control pad to waste several minutes of time once I'd reached the score. The Gravity Slide was awkward as anything on Vita, but so simple now. I cleared them all first try without even upgrading the power when I struggled before.

Didn't think I'd enjoy playing the game so much again. Maybe with a TV and more real estate it's just so much more fun zooming around all over the place at speed.

Anyone in Latin America that has gotten the physical version ? It looks like we got screwed by Playstation LATAM. I really don't feel like buying the digital version.

My local GAME had a whole three copies in. I got there 15 minutes after it opened and got the second one.

Reading other people's experiences here, I worry that Tearaway: Unfolded bombing has scared Sony into a very limited print-run as it's another Vita port.

Amazon UK delivered mine today.

The boxart is not bad actually. The white one is still better but this one is fine. I'm glad I didn't import now.

Going to start this tomorrow, can't wait.

At least Sony knows there is demand now. They can print some more and send them to shops. Obviously, Sony would prefer they just go digital though.

I was thinking the same at first, but it's definitely the better controls making everything easier, I'm sailing past the score/time requirements for gold on my first try almost every time. Combat is a lot easier too, not that it was horribly difficult in the first place, but I don't think a boss fight has taken me more than like twenty seconds yet.

It's a constant back and forth between the first party developers doing these limited print runs since they want all of the profit for themselves via digital purchases. It's a shitty situation for the consumer. At least next time Sony do a remaster they do a better job with making enough physical copies for people, I feel bad for the folks having to wait on this, especially with their weekends no doubt coming and going. This game series deserves the wider audience, since Sony aren't making any other games like this. It's a fresh and brilliant game that now more people get to experience for themselves. Hopefully the sales keep up the pace right now and it gets good word of mouth.

The 60 fps gameplay really makes the game sing. During an energy race in Auldnoir I speed shifted into a building's side after a checkpoint, pressed L1 to restore gravity, and dropped to the ground like a bullet. Kat, like her namesake, lands on her feet and I have her immediately shift into a gravity slide without losing any momentum.

I just said "Wow, that looked amazing," And it felt amazing to control too.

I said it before in the vita version, but if the controls and the many different moves click with you then this game is really amazing. I feel bad for those that just Gravity kick their way through the game as they are missing some amazing things. This is truly a you get what you put into it style game.

Playing the original Gravity Rush on Vita was a painful experience for me and the PS4 controls are definitely making it a lot more fun and streamlined. That and the framerate really makes such a big difference.

Only thing I don't like is how small the Option button is for accessing the menu, but maybe that's just because I'm not used to the PS4 controller yet.

I feel like if there is enough gems lying around you can invest properly into trying lots of different fun tactics, but the combat in GR is definitely way too simple and could use more variety and depth in a sequel.

I was wondering why this hadn't arrived..

My order just updated...this is ridiculous. I was expecting it today :(

Definitely. I feel the sequel should create combat encounters that require more than just a gravity kick. Maybe they fell into the classic game designer mentality of "if we give them these options then they will want to use them". Instead many people just use the easiest thing to work their way through, ignoring everything else.

So maybe with the different fighting styles in the sequelit will force people to do certain styles to break armor, do aerial combos with enemies in the air, or force a stasis throw to stun a boss allowing you to attack, etc.

Maybe we'll get to play as Raven too? That would be great.

Ease up. You're among friends here — I never said Platinum should develop an entry in this series, nor that the Korra team should handle it. I was responding to someone mentioning how GR made them happy as much as P* games have.

That said, Platinum understands action game combat like no other, top to bottom. All the jank in the ground combat in Gravity Rush is only mitigated by how great the movement is in the game — most everything hinging on the central mechanic of shifting direction of gravity makes getting from enemy to enemy great — either through gravity sliding or falling — but ground combat is weak and doesn't capitalize on player abilities. The gravity slide-kick is fun, but disorienting with its lock-on, and since you can't slide irrespective of the camera, it's not the combat tool that it could be.

Platinum's gameplay isn't homogenized among their titles either. MGR is completely different from The Wonderful 101, which is completely different from Vanquish. They could totally do justice to GR's overall design philosophy and core mechanic with whatever combat system they'd conceive, and even if it somehow was an affront to the series, it'd still be a much more serviceable core combat system than what was in GR. I don't even dislike combat in GR, but I'm constantly aware of how it could be better while engaging in it, something I generally don't or stop thinking when playing a P* game.

And Korra was a decent game — Activision is notorious for its licensed games' short dev times and low budgets. That Platinum could make a game that's even remotely comparable to their other games is testament to how much they salvaged what would've been a true shovelware dud with most anyone else, understandably so. MGR was also a showcase of their game surgery — I still stand by my assertion that Platinum-designed gravity manipulation combat would be quite something to behold.

Were some of the gold medal requirements loosened a bit? I remember having a bit of trouble on certain energy sliding challenges and the airboat race on Vita, but i finished all the top level challenges in 1 or 2 tries on PS4... even beat the airboat race first try, which it had to of been at least 10 on vita for me

Amazon delayed by 3 weeks so I paid an extra fiver for the PSN store. Disappointed but at least I'll have time to play it.

I think it's just the challenges are all easier because of the controller. That's the case with me anyway.

Crap, I fell through the world and now I'm stuck:

This must be punishment for mowing over all those pedestrians with Gravity Slide.

Haven't been able to find another a collision seam to ascend back into reality or fall low enough to reset up top. Not sure if I wanna close/reopen the game and lose gem collection progress, or will the auto-saves help me there?

edit: yeah, just quit to title and lost a few hundred gems. I could get around to a lot of different areas but didn't manage to get myself free.

That happened to me on the
stealth mission
early into the game. I gravity shifted to reach the
top of the church
but got stuck in the ground below it and had no way out ;~;

Ordered mine from Base for £18.69 yesterday. Got it today.

Ah, crap. They're out of stock. The next cheapest is Shopto at £19.99 and they're out of stock too. Didn't think Sony would ship so few copies. Or maybe the game is actually selling unexpectedly well...I wish.

Nah they probably shipped about 3 copies to each retailer :(

I have a question about how the DLC works for the remaster. Originally, it was content that happened alongside the main story, so it was part of the core plot (but not major events). With the remaster having the DLC content the Vita version has implanted in the main game, how does it work on PS4?

If anyone can answer, that would be great :D. I loved the game on Vita but never got the DLC, so that is one reason (alongside improved controls) I might consider getting this on PS4 whenever I get one :D.

Its nuts how my tone changed on this coming to PS4 XD! Hated the fact last year but this year, I'm cool with it :). Hope everyone is enjoying the remaster and appreciates this hidden gem from this current generation :D.

This game really knows how to fuck me on challenges. Lack of a retry option is fucking stupid.

I'm pretty sure pushing Triangle on the score screen lets you retry.

It works exactly the same as it did on the Vita. The missions become available after passing certains points in the story.

You sure they just didn't go to the wrong address? Sometimes happens, I'd check with your neighbours, if you're friendly with them that is.

Just got off the phone with Amazon and WOW!!! Sending me another copy with 2 day shipping!!!

Best customer service experience I've ever had!!! Was done in like 15 min!!!

Wow, that is great!

I had a situation with Ratchet and Clank and the 20% discount for Prime and applying a $10 discount I got from something else. Long story short, I wasn't supposed to get it that way but they gave it to me anyway because of the trouble and confusion I had (I had to speak with two reps).

Amazon is awesome.

I hope you get your package this time!

So I just silvered a challenge and notice I was ranked about 35,000 on the leaderboards. I hope if that's any indication thus far the game is selling decent for the short time it's been out. I certainly hope so, it deserves to.

Anyway, still early in the game but this part was unsettling.

EDIT: Also, make sure to fully turn down dual shock motion sensitivity (which effectively turns it off) since I noticed I was slightly missing my mark when I would press R1. It seems the moving the dual shock causes your character to make adjustments you might have not noticed. Not a big deal either way, but if you feel you're aim is a little off, turn down motion control in the menu. You can still use motion control to adjust the comic-panels either way so no loss there.

Wow this game has a pretty extensive gallery with really high quality artwork of a lot of assets in the game. Impressive.

Just ordered off of Amazon. Will be here on Monday. Had some leftover credit so I end up paying $3.50 out of wallet. :)

Now imagine if P* got a crack at this series' combat

I actually don't think the combat in Gravity Rush needs to be that deep. Part of the reason I'm loving this is due to it having a 5th or 6th console generation simplicity, almost calling back to that golden age of 3D platformers. It doesn't do much, but what it does it's pretty tremendous at. All Gravity Rush 2 has to do is offer more dynamic enemies that encourage more movement, chases, and dodging. Not once have I thought to myself "This needs a deeper combo system."

Yeah, I haven't started playing it yet but I can imagine some awesome aerial battles in the sequel based on what I have seen. A small boss type enemy shooting powerful ranged attacks that you fluidly dodge in the air, you catch a blast with your stasis field and send it toward some other enemies trying to creep up on you from your side, a decent amount of environmental destruction takes place, you use the confusion to soar into the air and crash down on the boss with a large attack, other enemies are sent flying in the shockwave, you get pressured by several airborne enemies and they chase you down through your weaving in and out of the areas infrastructure, etc...

It looks amazing in my head lol.

I agree with this, the combat is at a nice happy medium area, the complexity comes with the gravity not the combat. Can't wait to see what Gravity Rush 2 has in store for us.
