Randy Pitchford: I agree with [EGM] that Aliens: Colonial Marines was a 9/10

I know everyone takes the game to task for not matching that demo but I feel that is the least of its problems. Visuals are not the issue. Even if it looked exactly like that demo it would still be rubbish.

Visuals are not the only thing I think they "lied about" though. The demo showcased some really interesting AI that is also completely missing from the game.

I need to go back and watch it again then because, yeah, interesting AI is something completely absent from the game.

Please stop. Avp 2010 is in almost every way better than that POS colonial Marines.

Play it again if you dont remember.

I bought it when it came out and played it for a few hours trying to like it, it just, I dunno, felt wrong, the FOV, the shitty jumping, it wasn't enjoyable to me.

But this is my opinion. ;-)

Perhaps my opinion is just as irrational as he is, but I fully believe he screwed over Sega so damn much on this game. I will never support another Gearbox game or franchise as long as he's there. So probably forever.

Depends on how you interpret "interesting".

For example I found the drunk, waddling Alien AI "interesting" when I encountered it in the game.

The Colonial Marines section of AvP 2010 alone is infinitely better than A:CM, at the very least your shooting Aliens most of the time. It also has some good encounters, reasonably satisfying shooting mechanics and a half decent atmosphere.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you enjoyed it, as the worst thing that Gearbox did was blatantly lie to everyone. If it wasn't for their endless hype and fake footage, I might have enjoyed the game for what it was, rather than hating it for what it wasn't.

The tone in this thread is disappointing, sounds like nobody listened to the podcast. He's saying he can't be objective to his and his team's creations and he explains why and how. Not that you still can't tackle that opinion, but so many answers here just miss that point completely.

There's plenty of evidence of his blatant lies in the past, even if the thread title is slightly out of context, the tone of the thread is more than justified.

I'm not angry because I never bought Aliens, and have 0 emotional investment in the game series.

But I can say that for guys like this, I think only the money talks. Success is success and failure is failure. Borderlands sold shitloads and made his company a ton of money, so that's what he's still feeling at the moment. I loved Borderlands myself, but Battleborn looks like a turd, and I think once its released there's going to be a big moment of truth at the top of the company.

If it's a hit though, then good for them. Another guy ego tripping won't ruin my day.

I bought it a year ago or something like that because some reviewers on Steam said it was 'allright' and I like Alien(s).
After playing an hour, I had 4 game breaking bugs and the game keeps on launching itself after I closed it (no joke).

I'm not one of those guys who think they are entitled for something, it's my fault for buying the game, but just let it go Randy Pitchford. You made a very bad and broken game and misled people. Get over it.

That's all fair enough. If you haven't been following this closely these two videos perfectly demonstrate the extent Randy/Gearbox went to in order to deceive their customers/fans. They are well worth a look, nobody should be allowed to get away with what they did:

Too bad he didn't say anything about him playing himself as the Borderlands 3 main villain

Secret Twist: Jim Sterling will be the new villain.

Battleborn, you say? I'm not familiar, perhaps someone could tell me what Battleborn is?

Battleborn is basically a FPS/MOBA mix that they keep insisting is NOT a MOBA even though it has all the trappings of the genre. One of the reason people aren't really paying it any mind because Overwatch is a thing and unless that game seriously screws the pooch on release then chances are it will outshine Battleborn.

Not sure if it is a coincidence but that seems to be Brandon Justice's last review for EGM. He probably got a job at gearbox for that review.

The reviewer's name is Brandon Justice?

...Brand Injustice?

We need to dig deeper here, thats got to be a pseudonym and one hell of a hint

So for kicks I checked and, it's pretty blatant.

I mean, not only is EGM's review of Aliens the highest score the game ever got, but it has a HUGE gap over the second highest, 68.

Hmmm, I wonder if EGM had something to win for making such a high review.

EDIT: This is the 360 version. Guardian gave the PC version an 8.

Look I know for the most part everyone hates the game, I haven't played it so I can't comment but I'm sure there are some people out there who like the game. From what I can tell this game just got overhyped and came out as a below average game hence the backlash. Randy has done it no favours either by continuing to come out and talk about it like its gods gift to gaming.

My point was he should just move on and accept it for what it is and get over it instead of trying to constantly defend it which is always going to be a losing battle for him.

Of course there are some who like it, but these people are in such a small minority that calling it divisive is just off.

But i get your original point though. Its insane that he can't let it go. It almost seems like he wants people to dislike him

"Hey yousss guys, my name is Pandy Richford. I'm here to speak about lying in the games industry here at DICE but first, Alien's got 9.5 out of 5 from IGN! People love my games!"

Why does he keep bringing this up, what an egotistical jerk. I hope battleborn tanks to give him some sort of karma for all this colonial marines stuff.

He's going to be disliked by people whatever he does. When the interviewer got on to the topic of Aliens Colonial Marines - it wasn't Randy that brought it up - if he had said he had no comment or didn't want to talk about it then that would probably have been seen as bad too.

I come here and post the same thing in every thread about this, but...

This is one of the most disappointing things to happen in gaming. SEGA (an awesome company) gives Gearbox the chance to handle an Aliens Co-op FPS and don't deliver! Such a travesty! This hurt Sega and probably the Aliens IP for a bit.

Give it to Machine Games or something - don't give up, Sega.

Isolation wasn't my cup of tea but I think it was made for a broad enough audience for it to be successful, which is good.

I love AVP 2010 it is short but goddamn it is still so good i am happy i still have it. But goddamn it Randy you are so delusional i am baffled by it but not surprised. Also battleborn a game that goes into the dust after it is released.

Randy is the most repulsive individual in video games by some distance.

I've despised him long before Aliens, the way he took shots at Halo and Fallout in the run up to Borderlands' release was completely unnecessaey and unjustifiably arrogant.

I was shocked that a magazine that I used to read solely for its usually spot-on reviews would ever give a POS like A:CM a 9/10. I bought the collector's edition, and thankfully beat the game in enough time that I was able to get a refund.

Gearbox will never seen a dime from me as long as Pitchford is still running things.

I'll go so far as to say that the real story isn't Pitchman's championing the review as some delusional form of vindication (it's totally in his character to do such a thing; not surprising in the least)...it's the review itself, Brandon Justice, and the Alien banner ads that adorned EGM at the time the review went live.

I've worked at EGM since 2011, been the Executive Editor since 2013 (basically stepping into the role Brandon was in before his departure). I've never once known that we were going to have ads for a particular game I was reviewing until I saw the the ads on the site—which has led to more than a few "oh man" moments when an ad campaign was suddenly starting up right when our review for the same game went up.

I don't know the exacts on why Brandon gave Alien CM the score he did, but I can say that wasn't the only game he reviewed where his score seemed decently off from the Metacritic average. His tastes in games, at times, seemed quite outside the norm.

To be fair, though, I've been in the same position before, just not with such a high-profile game as this.

Im ashamed he calls himself a professional journalist rofl

Except he doesn't call himself that, because he doesn't work in this field anymore, and I'm not sure if he ever called himself that.

But he's wrong though, you can be objective of things that you create, that's what a good artist would do, look at their own product and see how it could be improved. Randy is just so far up his own ass that he can't see any faults with the game.

I'm a little taken aback by the vehemence of all the Randy hate in this thread.

Over a movie licensed game to boot.

Did I miss something? Did he run over a dog or touch a child inappropriately or something?
