As I have said, people are short changing this game. I am betting that it will be a surprise for many.

i was on board before, but the lack of guns kind of lowered my interest.

but more and more, i feel like the focus on meelee combat might be a really welcome change.

I'm a sucker for the FarCry upgrade tree and crafting system, too

Hype is very low indeed

Eh, I'm pretty hyped. Far Cry 3+4 weren't exceptional, but they were definitely worthwhile purchases. Great games for just chilling out and not having to focus too intently (or while drunk/stoned).

However, I'm obviously not preordering given Ubisoft's track record. I think this is a "buy" for me at a 75+ OCavg.

My main hesitation is with the gameplay (if anyone wants to speak to it) is that it won't be varied enough to carry the several hours of gameplay. Wingsuits, helicopters, vehicles, all the weapons, etc. - these were a huge part of why Far Cry 4 was fun for me. It felt like every session I'd find some new gadget or weapon, or could use a new gadget/weapon in a new way.

The stone age vibe makes me worried if they can still have that variety given the prehistoric setting.

Video was very cool indeed. Amazing to see how much thought was put into the game to make it authentic.

I got a little tired of FC4 as it was too similar to FC3. This looks different enough to hold my attention.

It's the best Far Cry yet according to some reviewers. But if you are tired of the Ubisoft formula, you should avoid it.

I'm really looking forward to play it.

on a weird meta layer, "great - if not best - installment of the series, but totally skippable if you have series fatigue" is quickly becoming the newest part of the Ubisoft formula.

strange that everyone is getting xbox one builds when far cry is usually a ubi/sony deal while assassins and the division were MS/ubi deals, have not seen a stream on ps4 as of yet, maybe there are but i have not come across one

Is there an easy mode? Does it affect trophies?

#marriedwithtwokidsandhavenotime

Absolutely.

Just go into options gameplay and pick its the very first option. Moreso than going hudless difficulty is the name of the game for setting yourself up for an experience you enjoy.
They are also pretty different in terms of feel of the AI with easy seeing less usage of tactics by AI and stuff and other things changing as you go up. Normal is ok but still fairly easy to live with a little thought, up a notch is where the characters act much more like they should and still is still very playable.

Would be a lot more interested if they did Dinosaurs

in FC4, they made sure there was no reward for killing an elephant (eg none of the crafting recipes)

And mammoths are basically bigger tusked elephants

Felt pretty uncomfortable when they showed hunting mammoths with lots of spears sticking out of them before going down. not that it would be believies if they were one hit kills but...just looks wrong an unappealing to me (as someone who had no problems getting all the skins for FC3 and 4)

Certainly went an interesting direction so cant fault them for it, but the first FC I wont buy

You just like elephants nothing wrong with that. So did they...to eat, live, and wear.

FYI I will be doing another very long livestream today as well. TTBA

This game is either going to be embraced by the archaeological community, or the latest in a long series of buttmonkeys. Because it seems like the sort of thing that could both drive up interest for the profession, but also really skew the understanding of those who want to learn it because of the game.

No worries, that was some great footage. Especially the mongoose.

Badger! I kept calling him a mongoose because I recently found Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and read it and for some odd reason totally did. I corrected myself in the stream but thats a badger a pissed off, flea ridden, mangy badger of the ill-est of mentalities. And I love him

Ah, okay. Anyway, he is cute as hell and I love that animation.

I'm on the fence and have been reading the thread trying to decide whether to order this. I have been playing on PC lately and GMG has a decent price, so tried to boot FC4 to tinker with that a bit.

It won't launch... ugh. Even tried straight from Uplay and it won't launch, crashes each time. Prob should wait then..

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I want this.

March is basically bare, I thought DkS3 was coming out but it's only for Japan. Slain! and Alienation are coming but those are just smaller arcade style games that I'll likely blow through (hoping Alienation has some staying power like Resogun though).

Why is April so dope?

Did another 2 hours that should post soon. Some of the same stuff, some specific hunts for things in the inventory i needed and some difference turning up the difficulty. Set it from medium to hard and back again with various things occurring.

Nice, I'll be sure to check it out. You do a great job of showing the world and some mechanics with nothing spoilery.

Gotta say Karak, I'll be really interested in the buy/waitforsale/rent rating on this one... Watched your Lets Plays and my enthusiasm has plummeted. Looks like Far Cry with more gimmicks and less depth :-\

Purely personal preference, but I also feel like the setting isn't nearly as beautiful as Far Cry 4. Maybe the story/characters are awesome? I think Ubisoft Montreal is one of the better studios in this department. While they haven't blown me away, they're consistently good.

Edit: Also to add, hunting/crafting is my LEAST favorite part of the Far Cry franchise.

Perfect !!

will this affect trophy acquisition ?

I'm pretty much addicted to this game at this point. The entire theme and set up is just great. I actually feel like Im out in the middle of a wild kingdom. I saw a few wolves coming my way. Some smaller goat type animals were nearby so I scared them, they went running, and the wolves played chase. I carried on my way.

I'm glad I get to spend some time with this before the Division comes out. I have a feeling it will get addictive for me due to the world alone.

Yes. I think a couple require the difficulty at hard. Then again some will be easier with the game set on easy lol. So ya it will regardless.
There is a big difference between easy and hard as well. Like a gulf of tactics, damage, and resistance differences.

Doesn't sound like you should care. Just because I rate it something doesn't mean you will. Sounds like your mind is solidly made nothing wrong with that. Whenever I read the word plummeted I usually assume thats the end of the line lol.

Agreed. I think in a way both have a addiction quality to them lol.

I'll pick it up at a bit lower price.

Mad max completely burned me out on this style of open world game, plus I do have a backlog to move through

It allows you to choose a difficulty at the beginning of th3 game, loving it so far.
At any time. Its the very first option in the option screen.

So far as well I am seeing about a 25/50/80 split for difficulty changes resulting in tactics and skils being used. That means on easy they flank, or try to outwit you maybe 25% of the time, 50 for normal and 80 for hard. That's pretty good actually as it still leaves smarter more apt enemies on easy and some idiots on Hard.

Also difficulty effects damage and other things as well.

"awww so cut-...run...run for your life"
Also if you watch it just KEEPS TRYING TO BITE LOL
LOL. Last livestream I made the mistake of thinking a wild one was my tamed on turned to look at it and it straight up tore me a new one before I could blink. It was all over me like my body was made of handles. I ended up stabbing it to death and I like to think that my loincloth is at least 1/10th that F8ckers skin.

Really interesting look into the dev process for the game. It's fascinating to see how much care they have given the details and how much they relied on experts for guidance. I like the Far Cry series a lot, and I am not a big FPS guy. I'm more hyped for this one than I was for any previous titles in the series. Looks absolutely wonderful and unique.

So weird, I didn't recall the begining but I looked in my menu for a few minutes and couldn't see it at all. My mistake. Guess I'm blind. Lol

I think people assuming this game to change the Far Cry template up a ton will be dissapointed. I enjoyed 4, loved 3 but 4 just felt a little to close to 3 in ways of the setting and style of play. This is just so much different and even though it has similar elements and gsmeplay, the core feeling behind it all gives me this exploration, mixed with wild life, and for some reason I keep thinking, man I'd love a Turok game like this.

When I get a game for review via digital code, If I love it, I go and support the game buying it physically. That said, my pre order for this is still locked and ready to pick up come tuesday. I love supporting games I truly enjoy.

Ya its nice to see replacing the typical weapon porn with the animals(They truly are weapons) and their pluses and minuses as well as really requiring more tactics due to battle just being flat out more dangerous.Interesting turn. Some will hate it, I know tons of people who didn't like Blood Dragon. Such is life.
As I say in my videos. Its called Farcry for a reason though.

I was juggled between 2 Sabertooths as well and I am pretty sure one was already digesting me while the other was still attacking lol. But still Badgers are the shit.

I loved the original Far Cry & also the Instincts semi-sequel, I didn't like FC2 at all & skipped FC3, then I couldn't get on with FC4.

I do like the look of this (FC Primal) & also the setting, but I just cannot buy a Ubi-Soft game at launch any-more, I just cannot risk it, especially with the recent releases of games not working as they should (just this last week for me, SF-V & Firewatch) I have a backlog which I am really getting through now, so I will just pick this up later in the year.

I've been playing the PS4 version for hours and it'd really, really solid performance wise. No lock ups yet either. Just a fyi.

Sweet lord correct. Its pretty insane. Of all the animals I have to say they are the top of the Aggro list but depending on locations it can get bad with the Mammoths as well.

Going to do a Walking the Walk game video for this at some point in the future to discuss the reflection of life we see in the title. Lots of things Farcry 3-4 didn't do as much due to their setup that Primal does. Like the tribesmen carrying the correct supplies back to your village
