PSVR sold out within 5 minutes (UK and German amazon store)

There is no point to celebrate that PS VR sold out in minutes, when no one knows how many units will be available on launch.

If the whole production capability of Sony is a few hundred thousand units and every outlet in the launch countries got 50-100 units. It is obvious that as a product PS VR will be currently sold out everywhere.

By Christmas 2016 the PS4 user base will be near 50 million and then we maybe get a better idea how popular PS VR is as a console peripheral.

Think that if 5% of PS4 owners want to buy the product, it means that 2.5 million units must be produced in the next 5-6 months. Basically 450.000 units per month up or down, until PS VR launch.

And in the back of my mind I think that Sony maybe will present a PS4 slim on E3, it’s almost 3 years since the console launched, which means that they will need factory time for that product as well.

There isn't a smaller process of the PS4's APU. Given that the current revision is barely adequate in the form of cooling potential, shriking everything into an even smaller chasis is asking for trouble.

There was talks of a 20nm shrink some months ago, but TSMC's production has been delayed with the Taiwan earthquakes. So, PS4 slim this year? Very low probability..

Amazon Germany likely got a tiny allocation. There is no other explanation why it was available for 30 minutes or longer on Amazon UK, France, Italy, etc, but sold out in Germany after ~2 minutes.
Amazon botched it.

So it hasn't gone up on Amazon US yet? And Amazon's alert emails aren't reliable? If that's the case, I'll guess I'll constantly be refreshing the page throughout the day.

Preorders not open yet in Poland, Sony hasn't calculated the official price in our currency, should be up soon according to the retailer, they have some promotion materials ready.

Expected price around 2000PLN, which is around 10% higher than the PS4 was at launch, but € exchange rate is higher now so that's unfortunately expected.

You mean near 60m? Becuase Ps4 is going to Crush 60m this year not 50m.

Also PS VR will not sell like Ps4 of course but a 15/20% attach ratio would be amazing for Sony.

Maybe you are right, but we know that AMD is working on shrinking jaguar to 20nm since last year.

And I guess MS will want to get the XBox One cheaper as soon as possible in order to compete with Sony.

But I do not want to get off subject from the original post, so I will stop my thoughts here... :D

Amazon botched it.

Germany is Ps4 biggest market and EU biggest economy.

Put my pre-order in at GAME this morning, same price as Amazon and free next day courier delivery anyway so basically free prime style delivery.
Of course this was well after Amazon UK sold out and Game are still taking pre-orders now, so wouldn't be at all surprised if they were overselling beyond their initial allocation.

I don't know tbh... I think it's more of a "no plaintiff, no judge" situation.
But it's really disgusting to make a fool of people in that way.

That's basically it. But in this case the have their pricematching thing there.
The "Preisgarantie" and the imaginary previous price have that little info "i" beside them. Pretty thin ice to tread but I think that just means their previously expected price was 699.

I would not put something like this anywhere near my shop.

Which apparently Amazon failed to take into consideration.
Whoever was responsible for deciding how many units each market was allotted blew it.
Since several German retailers continue to offer PS VR preorders, I'm inclined to believe that the responsible party is Amazon, and not Sony.

I'll be traveling to japan in October just in time for launch it seems. Does it draw power from the PS4 or it has to be connected to an external power source?

It's going to cost a small fortune where I live, so buying it in japan seems like the best idea...

How big does my room have to be for psvr to work properly? My room is tiny, so I won't be able to swing my arms about let alone walk around.

For PSVR? No bigger than it already is. Most of it will be restricted to a small area. You just need arm space if you do any Move work I guess.

The European Amazons often shuffle around inventory. For instance, if you order something at Amazon France from Germany, Amazon Germany may fulfill the order if they have the article in stock. I'm pretty sure the fault lies with Amazon (Germany).

What do people mean by scalpers? Not familiar with this term.

Someone who buys a product just so it can be resold at a higher price afterwards.

Example: people who buy concert tickets, once tickets are sold out they then sell their tickets at a higher price

I'm gonna be off the internet from like 4pm through 10pm tonight, so if it goes live during that time i'm gonna cry.

Do you have to pay the full amount up front with Game ?

I just called Amazon because I wanted to know:

Amazon Germany had by far the largest allotment of Europe (taking into account that the German division is responsible for Germany, Austria and Switzerland), and they actually sold out in 25 seconds. Amazon was surprised by the crazy demand in the German speaking market. Especially Austrian customers bought a lot. (Of course they didn't tell me any numbers).

The thirst is real.

Coming up on Noon US east coast time... CAN'T. HIT. REFRESH. ANYMORE. FINGERS. GOING. NUMB....

And you think other national retailers received much larger allotments than Amazon Germany?

If you're Sony and will sell out regardless, you'd rather have videos of people stampeding towards the VR box pile at several retailers. Those videos go viral and they help hype post launch.
