Sony in video games is like Marvel right now, everything they do is golden. People are even hyped about CoD lol

Sony would get my undying love if they threw money at Capcom so DMC5 could be the best game it could possible to avoid more content-starved shenanigans like DMC4.

Sony would get my undying love if they do that & moneyhat MvC4.

My understanding about DMC4 is that it was less budget and more that the 360 port came down mid-development and took a lot more time than they thought it would.

They don't really need Sony to make a Game with Imsoniac, so I wonder why they lock their biggest IP behind a exclusiv agreement. I know there was the rumour that the game licence was part of the Spiderman Movie agreement, but i don't think this was confirmed.

Marvel wanted the 1st party treatment and care for one of their IPs like Sony gives to their own IPs like Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank. Sony suggested Insomniac as a second party developer because of their history together, and it all clicked.

Agreed on Sucker Punch making an iron man game, they already have the hovering down, the game would be awesome and do wonders for SP as a company.

Sony secured an exclusive AAA Spider-Man franchise.

PS brand is on fire this gen, who knows what other partnerships are in the works right now.

I think a good Iron Man game could be like a mix of inFamous and Just Cause.

Iron Man goes to search a large open area with an overall goal to find the Mandarin's lair or something. Basic combat akin to inFamous, though hopefully with a bit more punch, and with flying as a major traversal mechanic as opposed to parkour/climbing.

Theres probably some spiderman = sony deal after the talk with the movie rights. Just surprised that it wasnt sucker punch that handle the franchise.

I really hope they change their stance on this. Good games can still be made and be played across multiple platforms. Granted, I have a PS4 and have no problem playing the upcoming Spider-Man game, but I feel like it's extremely limiting by keeping it exclusive with Sony. Having other consoles involved, even if later on down the line, seems like a better call for the fans.

*EDIT: It would be interesting if they assigned different character to different manufacturers. For example, Spidey would be Sony, Ironman would be Microsoft, and Captain America would be Nintendo. Or something like that.

So you don't want Spider-Man to stay exclusive, but want other Marvel games to be exclusive?

hmmm. curious.
so if someone wanted to make an x-men game or F4 game, would they have to approach Marvel about it, or FOX?

i've always been under the impression it was Marvel, and if that's the case, that bodes terrible news for the xmen property.
Marvel has been actively sabotaging x-men for years now, simply because they can't get over their own egos for not having the movie rights to them.

frankly i think it's pathetic.
during the 90's when marvel was in serious risk of bankruptcy it was the X-MEN & Spiderman comics that essentially helped them stay afloat.
noone gave a fuck about the avengers, or the inhumans, or shield, or the defenders, or any other second rate superhero team.
to see them actively sabotage the x-men comics now -the very source material that helped them out big time when they needed it, is just completely disheartening.

i hope FOX continues to experience success with the x-men movie universe. if marvel wants to act like a spoilt child, then they don't deserve to have the movie rights back, imo.

anyway, this spiderman game looks fucking amazing. Insomniac is the perfect dev team to work on this property, and this is a really impressive exclusive sony has gained, if true.

It doesn't quite work that way, but the end result is the same.

It's not that all Spider-Man games are exclusive to Sony. It's that there is one series of Spider-Man games and that series is exclusive to Sony.

Yeah, by saying that that's the only console Spider-Man franchise they're going to make at the moment, it's effectively the same thing. I'm not a fan of that. It would still suck, but I could kind of understand if the studio they wanted to work with was a 1st party dev like Sony Santa Monica or 343i, but it seems unnecessary when the dev is a 3rd party like Insomniac. The whole thing is just a weird situation.

They'd have to approach Marvel. I think the only way Fox would have to get involved is if they made it a movie tie-in.

My understanding about DMC4 is that it was less budget and more that the 360 port came down mid-development and took a lot more time than they thought it would.

It was a combination of things, as I understand it.

- The Xbox 360 version, which increased the workload by 50%, and like you said wasn't planned from the beginning.

- The PS3 was difficult to develop for because of the Cell processor. According to Kobayashi the PS3 presented more challenges during development than the 360.

- MT Framework was fairly new at the time, and DMC4 was only the second or third game developed on it.

- DMC4 was the team's first experience with HD games. Itsuno has commented that the work load for HD games was two times more than previously. They probably didn't account for this when planning development.

- There's a ton of assets they couldn't reuse, and so they spent a lot of time making things from scratch.

- A lot of the team had worked on the series back to back with DMC2, DMC3, DMC3SE, then DMC4. Fatigue had started to set in. Several team members have in interviews remarked they felt the series was out of ideas, and that they spent everything they had with 3. Itsuno has remarked that the introduction of Nero and the novelty of the character rejuvenated the team.

Anyway, I didn't mean to imply that a lack of budget was DMC4's problem specifically, more that with Capcom being in a more precarious position financially than they were during DMC4's development I want to avoid DMC5 having a drought of content as well (though for different reasons).

Oh my gosh this is so great! My brain is abuzz with the potential of what we could get from great developers now that marvel wants to step up their game on having games made. Oh my I'm soooo excited, YAY!!!

*throws confetti into the thread!*

Marvel wants to work with the number one console brand. Makes sense.

This post is a hell of a lot funnier than it's getting credit for.

I mean doesn't it still warrant having your game on as many systems regardless of market leader. Contest of champions isn't only on iOS, or Age of Ultron isn't iTunes exclusive.

Still Sony did good as this was the big push to get a PS4 and it's exclusive games.

If no one else is willing to give it the love and money for it then no. Marvel isnt funding these games. They're looking for whoever is willing to fund these games with a proper budget and make good games with their IPs.

Seeing people "excited" or "happy" about Sony locking down/money hatting Spiderman in it's entirety on Playstation only is about as sad as I've ever been with video games.

Shame a lot of people won't get to play it, including PC players.

You're kidding yourself if you think Microsoft WOULDN'T put money into a fucking Spiderman game.

It's fucking Spiderman lol

They'd have to approach Marvel. But given the current situation, it's be a battle that the developer/publisher can't win.

If only RexNovis was here, remember how he went ham on statham for being happy about that marketing deal?

Ok this is very exciting news, though I admit for me it's mostly about the possibility of an MvC4. After all the doom and gloom and the rebukes from people that said Disney doesn't care for console games, I'm so glad to see an official statement proving the contrary.

Maybe this time, MVC4 won't suffer from a horrible launch if their statement on quality and time is anything to go by.

Now more than ever, there is some actual tangible hope!!! THE STARS ARE ALIGNING

I'm curious how MvC is viewed by them.

Would they rather have a Marvel-only fighting game as opposed to sharing half the roster?

Same, very curious about this too. I would get the impression that they'd want to rival Injustice directly (so Marvel only), which I certainly wouldn't mind so long as it's also team based. Though Neoxon has mentioned several times before that Marvel has canonically acknowledged the MVC universe, and I don't have any doubt that they are aware of the dedicated following of the franchise. Would be silly not to just build on top of that.

yeah, even as a sega fan, those movie tie-ins (not internally developed, i wanna say?) were no good

here's to hopping the Netflix stuff sees action sometime, dying for DD/Iron Fist/Moony etc games down the road! (suck it punisher fans, ya'll already got a great one on ps2/xbox)

As RocBase said, Marvel officially recognizes the MvC Universe as Earth-30847. Likewise, Marvel has made a number of references to the MvC games in their cartoons & comics. So yeah, they're well aware of the franchise's fanbase. As for Marvel potentially wanting Capcom to do Marvel Super Heroes 2 instead of Marvel vs. Capcom 4 to directly compete with Injustice 2, I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom asks for both as an opportunity to build up the Marvel side first, then use MvC4 to add a few more Marvel characters & a bunch of Capcom characters (& possibly surpass MvC2's roster). But in reality, if Capcom enters talks with Marvel in the near future, they may just jump straight for MvC4 for the sake of the FGC (while UMvC3 is still hanging in there competitively, it's starting to lose its steam).

Really sucks. I'm on Xbox One and have no plans on getting a Ps4. So they are locking out everyone else who doesnt own a Ps4.

Just look at Batman Arkham series. That was released on Xbox 360 and Ps3 and Batman games prior to that sucked but with Arkham it became quality.

True this.

Although with Insomniac at the helm - they will be a tough act to follow for years to come in regards to quality Spidey games. I might go as far to say their vision will be a game-changer much like how SM2 introduced the swinging we love if they nail all the traversal elements like I feel they will. I'm sure they will even improve upon the swinging. They are passionate folks.

It seems a bit unfair to keep something like Spider-man exclusive to one system but I guess that's the business we're in.

That said it's good to finally see a good developer behind this. Even the recommended activision games I found to be quite mediocre. I'd rather have them make a good exclusive than a mediocre multiplat.

It's so weird how excited this can make people. He's basically just saying "Yea we're going to actually try to make some good games and see how that goes," but it somehow feels very refreshing.

Fair enough. Though the more people are aware, the more of a chance we can have at fighting back.

Agree, but your posts read more like "don't even bother asking for this" vs. "Marvel has a ban right now, be sure to let them know what you want."

Huge win for Sony.

Playstation, Marvel and Spiderman are huge. And Insomniac makes great games. I'm sure this project will succeed.

Superhero games have been in a shitty license swamp for years now. Plus this is one of the first big efforts to maybe have multiple high quality games for different characters.

Just read the OP , that's good news and all those news make sense , but ..

I still long for another marvel Vs capcom

I hope that they don't forget this game exist.
