PGS -- Windows 10 Game Handheld announced

I get that there were lots of scam, but imo you guys are too harsh.

"Telescopic analog sticks (basic analog sticks for PGS Lite)."

Too good to be true, just totally fishy. First, they promise a handheld for 250 dollars with the top end atom CPU and two screens. They claim to have investors. But OH SURPRISE, they say they need a crowdfunding. This is a scam.

I think it's fake. The website contradicts itself.

Even though its thickness is 1.6 cm only and you can even put it in your pocket, our PGS is the most powerful console among all known ultraportable PC-compatible devices. The heart of this device is a quad-core Intel Atom X7 processor, which makes our device the most powerful portable gaming console.

Thanks to its amazing thickness of 1.4 cm, PGS perfectly fits your hand and can even be put in you pocket.

I'm really curious to know how they're going to Kickstart "preorders" for this. They'll need a working prototype and I doubt they have anything close to their own hardware so it should be fun to see how they try to skirt the rules.

Fake or not, looking at cell phone specs these days make me wonder, how farther will Nintendo push their next handheld, tech-wise, yet keep the 200$ price tag.

I'm still not seeing how that works. From the YouTube promo, it looks like the sticks are nearly as tall as the system's main deck is thick. That's not a lot of room for the actual circuit and mechanical components. Also what keep you from pushing the sticks back in accidentally? Plus, that whole assembly has to be real high quality to function over time.

What happened to them not wanting to go to kickstarter?

Proper investors weren't gullible enough to fund an incredibly naïve-sounding project that's thoroughly unrealistic especially for a brand new company that's never made hardware before, so they're looking for naïve Kickstarter donors to give them money instead.

I wonder if they will have a hilarious "prototype" like the Smach Zero folks had.

Well Kickstarter now requires that projects promising hardware have a real prototype of whatever their project is. So one thing's for sure - if there's even a single pixel of their video and prototype demo that looks fake, I'll be reporting the project as fraud and hopefully everyone else will too.

Just got this email from their newsletter

Hello, friends! The PGSLab team is glad to inform you that our device is going to be available for pre-orders on Kickstarter. As we informed before, the price of the basic version is 230$.

INSIDE

The device operates Windows 10, as well as Android 6 in the Dualboot mode. A high-performance mobile Intel Atom X7 Z8750 «chip system» is the heart of a device. The console will be released in two versions, the earlier one is equipped with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal memory. Memory expansion is possible thanks to a Micro SD Card Slot. The performance level of the device is more than enough to provide smooth operation of 99% of PC games in HD-resolution.

FORM-FACTOR

PGS has a form-factor of the side slider. One of the key features of the device is existence of two high-resolution displays with 5.5 and 4.5 diagonal for the main and for the auxiliary displays respectively. The accumulator with capacity of 6120mAh provides around 5 hours of operation for very demanding games. Among other features of the device there is an LTE module (in the Hardcore version), 5 channel audio system (in the Hardcore version), as well as the front and rear cameras.

On a screen of that size, I would argue that even 1080 is overkill. 1440p would be a complete waste of pixels/ cpu/gpu power.

Specs and price don't match. This can't be real.

That being said, if MS were behind a similar product I would be really psyched because I'd know the support would be there. There is a market for a product like that, it just needs to be done the right way.

Look at pricing for Surface 3 (non-pro). That would be the ballpark if MS was involved, i.e. $500-$600.

For you.
They are still saying Intel z8750 for CPU. Wouldn't that be fraud since that chip no longer is available? Wonder if Kickstarter will pull down the campaign.

Edit: here is the link in case folks are wondering.

Theoretically speaking, it's possible. They are not made anymore, but that doesn't mean there isn't a bunch of them in the market. Of course, I still think this campaign is a scam regardless.

Welp, they are at $54K and it hasn't been 24 hours yet. That's 211 people who went for this.

Such a device (even at say $100 more) would be extremely interesting but this is 99% likely to be fake.

Holy fucking shit that Kickstarter video makes it look like even more of a scam than I ever thought was possible. Not only is there no viable prototype at all, but the video is incredibly amateurish and ridiculous.

I hope all of the hundreds of people contributing to this campaign so far are either fake or reconsider. This is going to be an unmitigated disaster for everyone involved.

$100k is like a literal scam. They need way more money.

And what's with those gifs of games using something else on a tablet thing? At least keep it consistent with the fake photoshopping on your own device.

Of course it is a scam.
On all levels, this device isn't possible. Atom x7 runs too hot for 8 inch devices. They want people to believe it'll be perfect in a 5 inch phone casing ? They promise a 250 dollars price for something with two HD screens, all of that with premium materials and a LTE modem. This device isn't happening. And at best, they'll backtrack.

There's no way this doesn't crash and burn. The parts alone would easily eat up more than the projected 50% and they seem like they still have a long way to go on the R&D side of things. I just hope they're misguided and this isn't actually malicious. Kickstarter would be wise to keep a very close eye on these guys as it seems like they're going to meet their ridiculously low goal pretty quickly.

The guy that says "PGS revolution now" sounds just like dude from Honest Game Trailers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSR-s0GGVSc

Also I laughed at the woman at the end when they're all grouped up, her shaking her shoulders and the guy behind her doing some weird shuffling around as well.

Not to mention the lip syncing being incredibly off, almost like it was badly dubbed.

And incase you were wondering, straight from the "creator"

Yes, PGS is small regular PC, and can working with all PC accessories via bluetooth or USB.

Yeah, this is a joke. Even the performance claims are a joke.

The Atom x7 can't deliver that sort of performance when compared to, say, the equivalent Surface 3, which already fell way short of the Surface Pro 3, and even further short of the Surface Pro 2, which needed active cooling and fans to keep their Intel HD 4400s cool. And it's going to be worse since this 5" portable is a form factor which won't be able to deliver anything close to Surface 3 performance given thermal constraints.

And devices like this make very little sense running desktop Windows, the two screen setup is going to be a nightmare to actual get working in a useable way. Now that Microsoft has OneCore, it could theoretically make a device like this itself, but for it to work Microsoft would need to come up with an interface that suits it and bundle that to OneCore: http://arstechnica.co.uk/information-technology/2016/05/onecore-windows-everywhere-cross-platform/3/

Perhaps the biggest gains, for both developers and users, come from unexpected new platforms. When the first work on MinWin was started, nobody could have imagined that one day HoloLens might exist. But with the OneCore platform, adding support for this new hardware becomes relatively straightforward. It follows the same recipe as all the other platforms: start with OneCore, add other components that make sense (such as OneCoreUAP), and then add a custom shell that's optimized for the particular form factor. Should Microsoft update HoloLens to include, say, mobile broadband support, that's no big deal. It would just have to add the mobile broadband package.

Maybe once a similar thing can be done for a portable dual screen handheld a device like this would be feasible and actually useable. But Intel is moving away from investing in x86 for low powered devices, and the majority of Windows games that the audience this sort of a specialist device is targeting don't run on ARM.

Batman: Arkham City | medium-level graphics, HD-resolution, 27-32 FPS.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance | medium-level graphics, HD-resolution, 30-35 FPS.

Dark Souls 2 | medium-level graphics, HD-resolution, 32-37 FPS.

Mirrors Edge | minimum-level graphics, HD-resolution, 26-31 FPS.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim | minimum-level graphics, HD-resolution, 25-30 FPS.

DmC: Devil May Cry | minimum-level graphics, HD-resolution, 24-29 FPS.

Fallout 3 | medium-level graphics, HD-resolution, 31-36 FPS.

Fallout 4 | minimum-level graphics, SUB HD-resolution, 20-25 FPS.

GTA V | minimum-level graphics, SUB HD-resolution, ultra low patch, 21-26 FPS.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt | minimum-level graphics, SUB HD-resolution, ultra low patch. 20-25 FPS.

If this is legit, doesn't seem like it runs games all that well anyway.

It's not even legit, an well-cooled Intel HD in CherryTrail (like the x7 in the Surface 3) won't deliver this sort of performance, and the form factor of this device basically means it'll either be heavily underclocked or throttle a lot.

Metal Gear Rising does about 40-60fps on a Surface Pro 2 with Intel HD 4400 and a much better CPU.

LOL. They're either doing money laundry OR people fell for this. I can't believe it's happening.

I seriously suspect that at least some of the backers are fake. This thing just doesn't have the media presence to pull in these numbers so early on. Another thing to consider is that they previously said on the dingoonity forums that they had investors so they weren't going to try the Kickstarter route at all before later claiming their investors wanted them to go to Kickstarter to gauge public interest.
