Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 | The 'Verse Awakens

What would be the point in releasing SM? The modules , iirc, were to give people a taste of what is to happen in the PU. The mini PU is out, It would make more sense for them to allocate resources to get it out of alpha state.
The FPS mechanics require a lot of effort and focus to perfect, and considering they need to get it perfect before SQ42, they probably need Star Marine to get a volume of data that they just aren't getting from the very few people who play around on Kareah.

Also, if they can attract the fps market with something that's fun and attractive, word of mouth will spread and they can potentially get a ton of new citizens out of it.

Yea the FPS of the mini PU is kind of one and done. Two or three people having the odd fight wont be giving them the feedback they need.

Is that a new pic?

I doubt it, they will optimise the game a lot, but will probably take advantage of the new high-end cards when it releases. Volta will be your best bet when it comes to ultimate performance, HBM alone will provide an advantage for 4K.

To be honest, I hope they provide decent hairstyles for both male and female models. When is the female model even coming out?

I don't really care about persistant universe hair customization (for now). I'm fine with it being more on the basic side. However, I want those manes to sparkle and flow in SQ42's cutscenes.

Well, this is the hair style sported by the character played by Sandi.

Is this sparkle or flow?

The mechanics and data gathered in a stand alone module will most likely not help them when it comes to the integration of the PU. Hammering sole experience down will be done in S42, and for testing it for functionality in PU..... would be best done in a PU environment no?

Like I said, it seems, illogical. It would make sense if they set up that enders game station as a place in the PU and have people try it out there.

Though true, the performance and lack of focus of the PU is somewhat undesirable to actually test mechanics in an intense firefight. It is great to test the system out as a whole.

I also suspect that the performance of Star Marine will more easily reflect the final product (and SQ42) on account of the being on a small map like Arena Commander.

2.4.1 is up on PTU

Database will be reset. Guess there was an exploit that allowed gaining tons of alpha UEC by shooting specific parts of the PVP station in certain circumstances.
Yep, I did that. Got 200k Alpha UEC and bought all the space suits, weapons, and clothing. If it's anything like other alphas and betas I've been in, there will be a exploit like that in every alpha build until closer to release.

God, i really regret not getting a space bike. 😭
You could always check the grey market. Prices definitely aren't as high as they once were. ;-)

Frankly I'll be shocked if there aren't a half dozen exploits in the game at release.

I picked up the two pack at the very last minute. I'm not sure if I'm going to get a lot of utility out of them but at least I can launch them off the back of a Starfarer for fun.

You're thinking small man. You have an Idris. Just think how many bikes can fit in there! Veritable swarm of space bikes!

Melted my starfarer for a Dragon Cat package. I don't think I have any regrets other than missing my special captains bunk.

New Bugsmashers

Notable in that it finally shows off a little bit of the new interaction system (I can't fucking wait until they get rid of 'Use').

The 'use' function is horrible with the amount of usable things that can be crammed into a small area. Use what? Who knows! Lets press F and find out! And I swear, getting the "use" to pop for some things is like hunting for the magic pixel. Meanwhile with other things I can be practically looking in the opposite direction and still get the damn trigger.

Launched this up to check out the graphics on my gtx 1080. Is the PTU at that Port Olisar running horribly for everyone? Went to the Hangar and Arena commander and had pretty solid performance. Sorry haven't kept up with this game at all, and will probably go back to waiting for it to be complete and optimized. Though I did have fun fighting the swarm in arena commander, the flying and combat feels really good in this, like it better than what I've tried in combat of Elite.

I keep getting an infinite loading screen whenever I try to jump into any of the two areas. Anyone know what the problem might be?

What Tux said, I'm confused by technical stuff.

Ya, right now they're having a problem with LOD (Level of Detail) rendering everything in an area even if it doesn't need to (such as that guy fighting pirates, as well as the pirates, 1 million km away).

Makes performance hell, will hopefully be fixed in an upcoming patch.

Rendering has nothing to do with it.

It is a combination of server load limiting frame rates and netcode limitations along with the aforementioned lack of locality culling.

e: it should be interesting to see what happens when they rip out all the CryEngine netcode and replace it with their custom solution. IIRC that is slated for 2.7

Yeah, but like, how many more bunks would I need to house the entire space biker gang? Two riders per bike! You know how fast we're gonna go through the food rations? What a logistical nightmare!

That Captain's bunk really is something. I don't feel any particular need for the Caterpillar myself, though. I'm keeping the Starfarer for possible space fueling needs for myself (I have way too many big ships to worry about) and for the org. Or profit. Either way the ship's really grown on me. I still need a dedicated cargo platform, though. I don't know why I'm slacking so much on unmelting my Hull C package. Maybe I'm just waiting for another shot at the Merchantman.

I might melt multiple ships if the Space Yacht goes on sale again. I have ships for the gameplay mechanic I would like (exploration), and I have some for fighting, trading and mining. But I wouldn't miss most of the ones dedicated to killing and blowing stuff up. I can be a less aggressive player if needs be.

No, you see, your entire crew are the space biker gang! Nobody would mess with an unmanned Idris owned by a space biker gang. ;)

I had this bug during the 2.4 PTU tests. It's some Windows service or process which doesn't play nice with the game. I couldn't stop it in Windows 10 so my only (temporary) solution was to launch the game after a pc restart.

Herald updates:

<picture snip>
Looking good so far, I'm sure me and the other guy who owns it are gonna like the final product. Well, other than the part where it doesn't do anything useful in-game until the appropriate mechanics are put in place.

Maybe I should have melted it for another two bikes after all... I've been corrupted by that crazy Idris biker gang idea. lol

It's one of the roles that I think is on the harder side of things to implement well. Information hauling is something that hasn't been done in any game that I'm aware of. Let alone done well. You can't treat it the same as standard hauling because it doesn't have the physical aspect. It doesn't scale the same. Doesn't help that it's relatively tangential to the other gameplay aspects as well. You could strip it out completely and not really impact any other system.

The ship is a gamble IMO. Well, they all are, but it more than most.

I feel like I heard this before, but the pirate station was confirmed to be inside an asteroid in RtV today. Also, not confirmed, but is a possibility, AtV might be going away in favor of just expanding the different segments into full videos (like they've already been doing with Bugsmashers and Loremaker's Guide). It is confirmed though that if it does stay, it will be a condensed version of the show.

And I guess no more updates for 2.4, they're putting all their effort into 2.5 so they can get it out before Gamescom. They also want a demo of 2.6 to show off during the convention.

Is the grey market frowned upon by the devs? As in, will they do anything against the accounts involved? I'm thinking of selling my LTI Constellation Andromeda and LTI Superhornet at cost or loss.

(also, do the mods frown upon that on GAF?)

Nobody will stop you. However, nobody will rescue you either if something goes wrong.

I think it's only bannable if you sell your account, they're okay (or at least they ignore) selling/gifting ships.

Not sure about GAF.

So, a very generous gaffer gifted me a set of CH pro pedals. Problem is that I don't have any kind of HOTAS setup yet. I am heavily leaning towards a double joystick+pedals setup.

Thing is that I'm not flush with cash at the moment after building my rig and doing a bunch of work/favors on the side to earn enough cash for my Vive+1080 FTW. I was always going to wait on a HOTAS setup for a bit but these pedals pretty much fell right into my lap and now I am tempted to get some joysticks... I've seen these on Amazon and as I understand they are even the default joystick for star citizen. They are pretty cheap and have great reviews. So my question is would it be ok for me to get two of those or just wait and save money for a better pair? I'm a big advocate of waiting and saving on something that is better quality/worthwhile.

But at the same time, this would be my first time using a full HOTAS. My father in law had me try to fly a glider in his, what had to be gimped, old flight sim rig with just one cheap joystick and throttle and it was one of the most boring things I've ever done... But I also had this feeling like there is lots of potential there and I could get hooked. I don't know if that makes sense lol.

Anyway, I think what I'm trying to say is I don't know if I should spend tons on something I don't know if I will fall in love with right off the bat. But at the same time I want to make sure I am giving it a fair shot and want an experience that isn't really gimped.
