I really hope fixing the text scaling in-game to properly match desktop scaling is a priority. I'm running the game on a 42" 4k display, and I have to not only set desktop scaling to 100% to get it to look right in game, but I have to fully reboot for it to kick in properly in-game.

Love this game so much more than Insect Armageddon, but from a 'crossing your T's and dotting your I's' perspective, IA was a much cleaner, less problematic game at launch.

Is there a right way to play this game? I got stuck on a normal mission, so I replayed the first level on hard, now I'm wrecking all the new normal missions. Am I cheesing the game or doing it right?

As with all videogames, the right way to play it is to have fun. Are you having fun wrecking things with powerful weapons? If so, then yes you're playing it right.

When I started I would play till about the 30th mission on normal then re-play those same 30 missions on hard and use the overpowered gear to demolish everything during the rest of the normal playthrough :)

Really thinking about picking this up, but I have to know because this utterly ruined the pcv of re4 for me...

Does this have mouse acceleration present? It's a crime most Japanese games seem to be perpetually plagued with, and I hate playing shooters with a pad so it'll be a total game breaker for me if it has horrible mouse controls.

Absolutely. That's why I love EDF so much, it's basically pure arcade fun stripped down to its bare essentials. Are you having fun ? Good. Now get a bigger gun and have even more fun :p Love it.

No mouse acceleration.

Logging off and back on does it for me. No need to reboot, thankfully. In any case, I agree they should prioritize fixing that issue. Hopefully, they'll also fix the problem where internal resolution is limited by desktop resolution. Having to set my desktop to >4K in order to downsample is kinda of a hassle to be honest.

All that being said, I had a lot of fun with it last night. It feels great to play, and is right up my alley.

IA has a 30fps lock that they still haven't removed. You have to hack the exe to get 60fps.

Anyone else getting really low framerates in some of the menus? I swear, the game went down to like 15 FPS between missions while I was playing online, and having a bunch of the song bits on my message wheel caused lag whenever that was up, too.

Yeah, that's the only major glitch I've encountered. It only seems to happen during longer sessions of play, and actual gameplay was unaffected.

I've had the game be stuck behind a loading screen after loading in a level (could tell from sound/music that the level was happening behind the loading screen). Even brought up a menu, navigated from sound effects, and went back to the main menu, but the loading screen stayed there.

Also I had walked away from the computer for a few minutes, and the windows lock came up. Not sure if I had alt+tabbed out of it (would be extra weird if windows had locked while the game was paused in full screen), but the game was just a blank window when I unlocked my PC. Had to ctrl+alt+delete and end the task.

I'd play Sonic Go.
Run around your city. Collect rings, free trapped animals, collect Chao.

conversely, I love taking POS weapons and seeing how far I can go with them.

Very often even the crappier weapons have some compelling features to them, a assualt rifle might have a great rate of fire and capacity but damn near no accuracy and it lacks punch, makes for a decent close up weapon tho. Some grenades are highly powerful but you're just as likely to kill yourself as the enemy while using them, do try anyway, its all part of the fun when you can pull off a victory against difficult odds.

Well, with two days on the Steam top-seller list I'm going to have to revise my belief in EDF being a niche series. If it falls off the list completely I can reassess, but at the moment it's pretty clear this is a popular and well-liked game. Not Call of Duty/Madden-mainstream by any stretch of the imagination, but nothing like "that weird little series that I and maybe a dozen other people on the internet like" that I thought of it as before.

Next up, waiting for the next new game in the series so I can complain that it was better before the legion of n00bs made it popular and Sandlot nerfed it to reach mainstream success. :)

Make sure your GPU isn't downclocking. My 980 will idle at 135Mhz in menus if I don't set Prefer Max Performance for the game.. not good.

Does the PC have a new voice over? The PS4 version has excellent voice cast and acting, it even has Jamieson Price! That automatically means you have awesome voice acting!

The voiceovers are the same ones from EDF 2025 on Xbox 360/PS3 and EDF 4.1 on PlayStation 4. There is no "Engrish" in the game - Aselith misused the term.

Funny thing is D3 Japan's press release claimed this is the first English dub the game has ever received, which is quite obviously incorrect. Not only is it the same dub as on PS4, but EDF 2017, 2025, and EDF2 have all been fully dubbed as well.

"Enjoy the gameplay experience with the original Japanese voices or – for the first time in series history – a full English dub."

I think what they meant to say is that for the first time in the series, players can choose between English and Japanese audio in the same version of the game.

Right, I was surprised by that post. I don't plan to buy the PC version since I already have the PS4 but I came here looking how the port went down and if people are enjoying this incredible game.

This game's dub is really really good, much better than the one in 2017, I can't remember any good acting from that game or hearing any famous voices.

There's a voice in 2025/4.1 that sounds almost exactly like Troy Baker doing Kanji Tatsumi. I have no idea who it actually is though since he is not in the credits.

The dub in this game is so much fun. Jamieson Price and Richard Epcar are delivery some of the best cheese in this industry.

It's such a fine balance too. It's so easy to fuck up bad voice acting, especially if you get too wink wink nudge nudge with it, but because the game plays it so straight faced throughout the voice acting is pretty much nailing it every time.

Also, in regards to "Engrish", there's definitely some in the PC port, at least in terms of the text. Things like the game declaring "You'll use keyboard and mouse" or "You'll use a gamepad" every time you boot up your save file, or how "English and a Japanese change are possible" in the language settings or the fact that the Soldier keyboard rebinding options are misspelled as "Solder". Lots of little touches that the 2 dudes who sorta know English over at D3/Sandlot are the ones who had to localize the additions to the PC port. It's endearing, really.

So do Wing Divers ever get as cool as weapons as the other classes? I love the mobility but I feel like my firepower isn't as flashy or damaging as the other classes.

It get better believe me, he can solo some Inferno mission without any scratch.

My favorite radio chatter is definitely when they break into song. I stop shooting bugs just to listen to them sing it every time.

- lasted almost 2 whole days before buying this

- I really didn't like IA, but loved 2017 (360 then vita)

- about 3 hours in so far and this feels so much more like oldschool edf

>Loving it<

(I tried the setting to inferno to try to farm drops and got schooled - scaled back to normal and just running around with grenade launcher/missle launcher and having too much fun.)

the radio chatter is only one up'd by vicinity chat - "did you tell her you love her?', "why did you get married?", "for some reason"

edit: I think I'm more of a threat then the bugs right now - getting so much satisfaction from leveling the skyscrapers with multiple grenades - the destruction physics is clunky but feels so good!

Yeah, I remember hearing Batou in the game now. I couldn't link the voice but now it's pretty obvious :)

Is there a whole list of all the English VAs?

They struggle with long range though, some of the later levels can be pretty annoying especially the final boss. I managed to get Raijin somewhere along the way and that totally saved me since it has insane damage, can shoot crossmap and is hit-scan.

When you're online and lying dead on the ground waiting for a teammate to revive, don't forget to use the voice clips to sing the EDF song. Every time. Show that you haven't given up hope even though you got a facefull of ant acid and got knocked out instantly.

Nah, what'll really raise the morale while you're downed is a constantly spamming the "Waaagghhh" sound.

I've put 14 hours into this in 3 days, jesus.

EDF is crack.

Hey actually while I'm here: In coop how do drops work? Do you both see your own unique loot, is looting shared (1 person picks up both get) or is it a free for all?

I think it's:

-20 armour pickups is 20 armour for all players (after which the armour calculation per class is calculated)
-6 weapon pickups for all is 6 different random drops. However, I believe the weapon levels aren't random. If I get a 50, you get a 50.

Awesome.

I'll be diving into coop this weekend, so glad it's not a free for all.

It's important to note that splitscreen co-op works a little differently than online co-op. In splitscreen weapon pick-ups are not shared. It's first-come, first-served. Armor is still shared normally.

Laggy menus in the waiting room are really annoying. Is there a way to increase the framerate of enemies in the distance? Steady 60 otherwise

Is it just me, or does it seem like this game has a really weird renderer?

Like, some things in the distance render at a substantially lower res than stuff close? Because there's no reason the game should be aliasing this bad when I'm forcing it to downsample from 4k. Or maybe the rendering res is locked at 1080p? Because I get like no perf difference between downsampling and native res when selecting.

Have you read the thread? If not, set your desktop resolution to your downsampling resolution before launching the game.
