Yes! 120 hours on this game and I still want to come back. This will be the perfect leadup to NMS for me.

Definitely going with Hylotl (new race?) to start, love the look of the ship (very hydrodymanic!). Can they breathe underwater? I'm soooo excited.

My favorite thing to do was to have miles of tree gardens that I collected from the universe. I'll see if I have screens and I'll post them.

Nice OP! No screenshots of the game though?

Today is the day!

It's now as easy as right clicking a friend's name on steam and hitting 'join game'!

Amazing. Thanks for all the great work. Really just a fantastic game.

This is a great page for viewing all the racial ships at each upgrade stage. Big spoilers of course. http://starbounder.org/Ship_Upgrade

1.0 Finally here! Yay!
Downloading the patch now

I'm not seeing a patch yet. Probably in 20 minutes. There was a small patch earlier.

I should be there tonight, although I'm not sure when exactly. I probably will take my time enjoying the starter quests, but I'll help build the base and join you all exploring with pleasure.

I really hope underground exploration was thoroughly revamped (though some did mention it did). This is the number one thing that I wanted to see improved when I beta-tested.

In any case: patch available to download. 761.8 MB here.

Hmm weird, still not showing up. I guess I'll restart steam.

Also: can we play with the same character online and offline, or offline characters are restricted to offline and online ones restricted to online?

Slight cosmetic bug, still says "BETA" in the title bar... :p

Nice intro/tutorial. Quick and to the point.

And I may have wet myself.

The game is labeled as "Starbound - Unstable" in my steam library, tried restarting Steam but still says it.

You should have two library entries.

I played more than 40 hours of this game a few years ago, crazy that it's just now "releasing". I'll have to dig up list of things that have been added, I really enjoyed my time with the game.

You should have both "Starbound" and "Starbound Unstable" listed in your steam library. Ignore the unstable one.

Quick note: it is normal if you can't run at the start of the tutorial. Don't forget to remap your keys if you use an AZERTY keyboard.

They tweeted the GOG version along with Humble and Steam.

I wonder if early backers are entitled to the GOG version, cuz DRM free is great for me.

Backers (that bought from their site or humblebundle) get the Steam and DRM-Free version. The humblebundle page has a download link for the drm-free version.

Oh okay, I was about to ask why it says Beta still in the title bar. Thanks for letting me know it's just cosmetic.

If there's any doubt this isn't 1.0, when you're actually in the game, when you pull up the options menu (to change options/save), it should say 1.0 in that window.

can anyone recommend a Let's Play?

I've played a lot of Terraria so obviously I am interested.

Since 1.0 just came out, the only Let's Plays are based off the beta, so those probably wouldn't be a good indicator. You might want to wait a bit until someone releases something.

Sorry to go all Mega-Post again, just wanted to answer all of the questions since this morning. Remember to quote HaRyu's post for an invite to the Discord server where I'll be lurking all day, answering questions and generally being obnoxious.

I wonder if there's gonna be any reviews?

RPS did one yesterday; https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/07/21/starbound-pc-review/

Thank you! That is much better.

Yeah, the typeface I used is what's used on the "LCARS" displays in Star Trek: TNG. It looks like the default setting though is very narrow, so I increased the tracking (space between all letters) to make it a little less rammed together. Glad it's improved the readability for you.

You don't get to keep the stuff that you collected in the beta, right?

As a general rule, no. There was (supposedly) a character wipe with the 1.0 release.

I bought it in august 2013, but haven't played since that year. I remember the OST was awesome but ended up being repetitive (same songs over and over). Have they added new songs since 2013 ? Can't wait to play on the GAF server, i only played it alone.

Would be great also if the characters/save games was saved on the cloud..since i use different computers during the day. Is that possible (automatically)?

Yeah, the composer for the game just made a post about new tracks being added after the soundtrack released and how to get them; https://www.reddit.com/r/starbound/comments/4to1w3/starbound_ost_updates/?st=iqy11ygq&sh=bbbfd3e3

Not sure on cloud saving. Doesn't look like it. Hopefully soon.

TLDR; server is mainly there so you can casually play with others -or- build stuff and show off to others. That last part, I might add, Retro will make you feel very, very insignificant. Seriously. He has a problem.

I really do.

Definitely going with Hylotl (new race?) to start, love the look of the ship (very hydrodymanic!). Can they breathe underwater? I'm soooo excited.

Hylotl are old, they just lacked building materials / colonies / etc. for a long time. When I was playing unstable, I came across a huge Hylotl mini-dungeon though that was *really* cool.

I don't think they get to breath underwater right away, which seems incredibly odd. That said, their colonies are all open air (just... under water).

Does this game use Steam cloud?

Nope, hopefully soon.

That was great, nice teaser video. I'm sure it won't make much of a difference, but be sure to thank everyone at Chucklefish for all the hard work on behalf of GAF.

Also: can we play with the same character online and offline, or offline characters are restricted to offline and online ones restricted to online?

Characters can play between modes without any kind of restriction.

This game has coop right? never played it but i've heard a lot of good things.

Yep, I believe 4 players are able to connect directly via Steam, and servers can handle more (I think I read somewhere on Reddit that they're trying to get a 1k+ server going, but that seems insane).

I just checked the videos and holy S*** there is
cities
in the game ?

Yeah, there are... kinda.

Are you saying 1.0 is out already? The client still says Starbound - Beta for me.

Yep, it's a minor cosmetic glitch. While playing, bring up the options menu and it should say 1.0 there. Another way to check is if there's a little gear / cog button on the main screen (lower right). Workshop support was a 1.0 feature so if that's there, you're good.

Okay two problems I'm already having with this game.

The in-game text is ridiculously small. I have a slight vision impairment. I have the text magnified to 150% in my OS scaling options, the fact the text doesn't scale with a higher resolution is a serious problem and impedes my enjoyment of this game.

Playing the game at 1280x720 alleviates it somewhat, but it's still rather small. I really hope this is fixed.

The other problem is text boxes auto-progressing. Considering the above problem. I'd hope there would be an option to disable this and move dialog along with the press of a button and not have it move to the next line before I even get the chance to finish reading the first one.

I really want to see how they plan to fix these issues for the console version of the game, since folks will be playing the game on TVs and sitting a good distance away.

Does any one know if a text scaling mod exists? I would greatly appreciate it.

Wonder if it's still releasing on PS4, hopefully within a few years...

Shouldn't take them years to port this game. The PS4 is essentially running on the same x64 architecture a PC does, so beyond implementing a console UI and gamepad controls. Such a port would be a minimal affair.

Just because it took 3 years for Chucklefish to develop the game to point it's out of Beta doesn't mean it will take them just as long to port it to PS4, its not like they need to redevelop the game from scratch for an entirely new platform. Porting doesn't work that way.

FYI, for those of you with GSync/FreeSync you need to open starbound.config file in the game's directory and disable vsync in there (just search "vsync" in the file and you'll find it). It's not in the options menu in-game and is enabled by default.

I will say it is a bit of a bummer that controller support isn't in 1.0. I have no doubt it will be added eventually!

Can't wait to get home and play this tonight! Really excited to give this a shot after almost 3 years since I first tried it! I think I'm going to buy the soundtrack because it's fantastic, and to show them more support for making this awesome game.

For those of us that are new to this game, I wish they showed more Starship Gameplay. Is there Starship Gameplay (Ship Battles, damage/repair, boardings?

However....no controller support in 1.0 is pretty ridiculous. It's 2016, support should be standard now.

Hype deflated, not playing this with Mouse/Keyboard. Can you configure Xpadder to play this? Right stick aiming may be a no-go.

I really want this game to add controller support quickly. For building, mouse and keyboard are still the best, but for exploring I think it would be better.
