Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Sorry everyone, Grave of the Fireflies exists and trumps your paltry children's movies and shows.

Even worse is when you realize the author of the original story based it on his actual life and what happened to his sister.

Amazing movie. I'll watch it again sometime.

There was an episode of American Dad where Jeff was abducted by Rogers people. He learns of a way that he might be able to go back - by proving to a jury that his love to Haley was true Love. If it's not true love, then they take his privates. He has to have his thoughts read by a being called The Majestic. A depressing (yet upbeat) song, aptly named Majestic starts, and his mind is probed. Even though it only projected Jeffs bad memories, it was still a depressing moment for me. The look of defeat, followed by Jeffs actions killed me. In the end, it was a plot by the alien leader to never allow people to return by having the Majestic only show bad memories, but those few moments were brutal.

I found the song, Majestic, by Wax Fang, and I love the blasting it. Depressing, yet not at the same time I feel.

I was already in love with the show, but that episode was when I realized how excellent AD! had become that they were able to do something so affecting.

All great choices. These are mine.

Futurama, I always post this part because it just came out of nowhere. Game of Tones, last season. Such a sad and amazing episode.

Doing a rewatch of the anime and loving it all over again.

During her fight with Yoruichi. I always found this part so sad.

When Ichigo loses his Fullbring stolen and just finally loses it.

It was actually the scene after this that made me tear up, where Steven sings about how talking to someone who went through the same tragedy you did is sometimes the only way you can move on even if you're terrified of doing it

It hit super duper close to home tbh

Dinobot from Beast Wars

Chose to deny his fate.

I was 9, it was 4:29 in the afternoon and my Mom asked me why I was crying.

Merciful God, this. I was blown away when I saw it, and I was in college. My son saw it when he was 4, and he gave me that "I need a hug" look. So he got it.

i was so not prepared for this when I had seen't it.

This scene is personal for me. I actually got called Dumbo lots as a kid (among other things) because I needed to grow into my ears. My mom wasn't exactly a big source of comfort when it came to being picked on and bullied later on.

I could have used a hug when I felt alone. All I got was told to ignore them.

Wife and I watched this together when it first aired. Ironically, we needed a drink afterwards.

Finally someone posts it.

This made what happened in Transformers Prime just as sad.

I knew I could count on you, Deacon. I watched this with my son too, and there's a certain part in this episode that I'll put in spoilers. Seriously don't click it if you don't want to be spoiled:

When Megatron wipes the floor with Ultra Magnus and is about to kill him, and Optimus is dying, and the other Autobots have been captured
.

My son didn't give me a look then. He just broke out crying. I had to pause it for about 10 minutes to comfort him so that we could continue.

But man oh man did they do a fantastic job with that series.

Edit: The blu-ray of the original movie is on reserve, and I plan to watch it with my son when it releases.

Still mad that Kubo made both of them into fodder and barely remembers that they exist any more.

Oh get the FUCK out of here w/ that movie. Watched it when I was like 15 and legitimately cried my eyes out for hours afterwards. To this day I've never watched it again and it is by far the saddest movie I've ever watched, animated or otherwise.

There is nothing sadder than this pick. (Sister making the 'food' out of dirt balls, oh god just kill me)

That whole movie is just emotional destruction. We watched it in my high school Japanese language class, and almost everyone in the room was crying. I'll never watch that movie again, but I'm glad to have seen it.

Arrg, that was such a fucked up scene. Especially when Scar comes and
kills her out of compassion
. :(

For those who don't get the reference, it's from the manga/anime Full Metal Alchemist.

Colonel Hughes death
didn't hit me until his daughter started asking why he had to go away. And my dumbass was at work watching that scene during my lunch break.

Another FMA scene, and yeah this one actually hurt the most. Especially the way he died, with
Envy taking the appearance of his wife so he couldn't fight back
. Terrible day for rain.

The opening of Up was surprisingly mature and touching.

Talk about the ultimate bittersweet opening scene. Showcasing their beautiful life together and then the wife's decline... ugh man that was too damn real.

Yeah Luck of the Fryish ends me. Futurama is such a hilarious show and then it occasionally lets in the sobering reality of how awful it would be to be displaced 1000 years in time and ends you emotionally.

Seymore in Futurama (even though they retconned it so he actually did see Fry again before he was flash-petrified)

From one of the GOAT series of all time, and the GOAT fictional sports story in any media. I need
a second year from the crew
Inoue, and I need it now.. after the other two series are done. :)

I felt the exact same way- great show before, but that episode really blew me away. A few of their musical numbers have had great feelings and emotions attached to them, it's one thing about the series I really love.
