Well even besides Curry's legendary performance, the miniseries also had four hours (which still isn't enough to do the books justice) to tell the story. Here we'll be luck to get 2 and a half. They're gonna have to truncate a lot of shit and I'm not sure how well that will play out. People were pissed when it came out about how much stuff got cut so I wonder what the reaction for this will be.
I though they were making it two movies? One Kids One adults? As for my personal taste I can deal with changes and cuts if the spirit remains true and I don't feel the original did. Plus they need to do a better job with the ending, I'll tear my hair out if I have to hear a whole new generation go "it was just a spider". If they can convincingly potray/film the ritual of chud I will be able to forgive a lot.

That spider thing was badly handled. The ending of that version was so bad.

Still think this (and Dark Tower) would have been better off as a 8-10 part mini series. I dont think either of them needed a "movie" budget either.

To my understanding they're still doing two movies, but one thing concerns me. That pic of Silver. It's pretty beat up and rusty. I hope it isn't a little hint that we'll peek into the adult timeline at all.

I thought only the Fukunaga version was supposed to be two movies but according to Wiki they're planning it as two movies. I knew WB wanted just one film but I guess Muschietti was able to push it through.

That's good because your right no way it's possible at one movie length no matter how faithful to the source.

IT would work as a small season series. The Dark Tower, however, would need several seasons (if you're basing them off the books).

Do you think they're going to have a telepathic final battle like in the novel. Or we going to have stupid ass battery acid again.

The telepathic shit was awesome to me
The ritual of chud was amazing, I'm really worried that they're just going to completely change that aspect of the ending to make it less metaphysical.

No turtle, no sale!

Well, technically, wasn't Pennywise a killer clown from outer space?
Nope. He... IT!... was a killer-something from out of space (read: another realm) that posed as "the dancing clown" to make sure kids didn't run away from him at first sight (read: not the fucking slender man in a harlequin outfit) because it likes it's meat well seasoned with fear (not with just a hint of salt & pepper).

Another dimension. The "space/darkness" between alternate worlds. His counterpart was in The Dark Tower- The Dandelo/Joe Collins

Pennywise/Bob Gray fed off of fear. Dandelo/Joe Collins people to laugh hysterically and fed off of that until they died. They were both insect like in true form, and also took the form of a clown.

They ran out of budget and partly had to change it. Still the second half as whole is a pretty big let down apart from Pennywise. Tim Curry gets a lot of justified praise, but the child actors were also pretty good. I wonder what they could have pulled off if they actually included a lot of scenes like the basement.

Lol looks terrible. Not even scary tbh and I fucking hate clowns.

If the original Pennywise was in my house, I'd be shitting my pants. This new one, lol. Looks like a bad comic book villain.

I'll hold my opinion until I see more.

Pennywise changes his shape all the time, this could be a more sinister version after he's already baited the kids in.

But, having said that, the "victorian" motif of the costume leads me to believe they're trying to make some kind of iconic design for the clown, when the whole point is to be as unassuming and friendly looking at first to the children he feeds on.

Looking at the Losers photo, when is this supposed to take place? Is it an update where they're all kids in the 80s or are they kids today and adults in the 2040s?

So overdesigned for Pennywise. Like some sort of custom tailored outfit for a Victorian clown hipster. "I'd prefer to be referred to as a Harlequin, thank you.".

Riding that 80's vibe. They even have the Stranger Things kid.

Y'know, I could see the new Pennywise being simply a case of them trying to play up his creepiness in promotional material, but have him be deceptively funny and approachable like Pennywise was in the original to some extent.

Also as far as the kids go, that doesn't look 80s to me; the girl has a fairly modern phone it looks like.

Looks better than the Pennywise reveal IMO at least. Still not very optimistic.

It should be noted that this is a photo of the cast of the Loser's Club, but they are not in character/costume here.

I know that the Frankenstein, Mummy, and Teenage Werewolf are all but confirmed to be out since they're updating some of Pennywise's forms to fit the new era.

But I really hope Mike's bird makes the cut.

FWIW, Silver was described as being pretty beat up/worn looking even when Bill was a kid. I seem to remember a passage about "silver" being a rather optimistic name for a dull grey old bike.

I'm pretty sure he won't always look like an evil clown, this is just to show his evil side.

I'm guessing they will use Pennywise a lot in the movie, with most people knowing IT as the clown. It does seem like people forget that in the book, IT doesn't turn into Pennywise as much, using other monsters and fears quite a lot, so I hope they still do that stuff too and not just focus on the clown form, because Pennywise not played by Tim Curry will just be judged hard on that fact.

Edit: jeezus lol. My bad.

Really wishing they stuck closer to what he was described as being in the book, which I feel the Tim Curry version hit out of the park.

Wow. Worse than expected.

Who made this and thought "he needs to look like a pissed off jester with an attitude!"

It's not even that they merely made an inferior clown.. It's that they don't get it at all.

I'm still optimistic overall, after looking at Andy Muschietti's instagram and other pictures. Pretty much anything that isn't of Pennywise. And as others have noted, I also think we'll see a less creepydark clown Pennywise in the movie, as he's not supposed to immediately scare children anyway.

what kind of Jared Leto as Joker, hit you over the head w/ a sledgehammer mess. -__-

this isn't scary. What was scary about Pennywise was how... colorful & cheery he looked despite everything + Tim Curry's voice!

Image-searched the actor playing pennywise: he certainly looks odd, but he's only 26. Curry was 44 when he did the part. We're getting some millennial bullshit I'm afraid. An older clown would be way more creepy.

Yup, was about to say something similar. Pennywise - and most clowns, TBH - are scary when they're not overtly trying to be. With Pennywise in particular it was that menace that just barely bubbled under the surface, just enough to be unsettling, so effective. This one doesn't get it at all. That the filmmakers have so whiffed on something so fundamental to IT has me worried for everything else.

Expectations are rock bottom.
