Rise of Tomb Raider isn't even top 20 for this gen, forget about all time.

Actually, I didn't bother reading the entire list until just now. All I can say is...what the fuck? The top ten seems perfect to me, but Rise of the Tomb Raider over the original Tomb Raider or Tomb Raider 2? Wings of Liberty over the original StarCraft or even WarCraft 2? It's waaaay too early to be putting either of those games in a top 50 list. Seriously. It's like the top ten was well thought out, and then the rest were just drawn from a hat.

I think that probably has to do with the fact that it was bringing a previous poster child of everything wrong about male focused exclusionary gaming into the new century.

I don't think it's one of the 50 "best" games ever made, but this seems more to be the '50 most influential games' list, and you could make the argument that ROTR was the tip of the spear in more inclusive gaming and because of the franchises previous position as male gaze on steroids, is a fairly important game in that regard.

I would point towards Mirror's Edge or Beyond Good and Evil as the tip of that spear, but they were relatively minor releases in the scheme of a main stream publication.

I honestly can't see how you can argue that Rise of the Tomb Raider did anything substantial for more inclusive gaming over other games. It didn't release to mindblowing sales and post-release excitement for the title died down faster than anything released in 2015. If anything it marched on along the footsteps created by the first Tomb Raider reboot, which coincidentally did a lot better and was a better game to boot. Why isn't, say, Metroid there?

RotTR has neither had the industry influence nor the quality to be at #18 in the list of best games of all time. It didn't break any new ground.
New Lara Croft might as well has been a generic male adventurer and it wouldn't have changed anything.

Considering there's essentially two companies that make "Souls" games, and only one of them so far has actually done it the right way, it's too early to mention them. Although I guess that logic doesn't fucking matter when you consider some of the entries lower than the top ten.

To me it seems like it was done by various groups. The "informed" group, and then the "me too" or "uniformed/young" groups. I'm surprised that Uncharted and The Last of Us aren't on the list either (not that either should be). Plus, even though it made the cut, Resident Evil 4 is pretty low. It should be in the top 20 at the very least.

The list is a little too reliant on getting the first game of a series in the rather than a superior sequel. Castlevania, Smash Brothers and Mario Kart, for instance should have used later games in the series because most of the forthcoming games were better.

I don't think this list works even as "most influential". Metroid-style games are completely absent. Modern Warfare is absent. Street Fighter II is absent.

More influential? No, it's not, when compared to 7.

Depending on who you ask though, 6 is the better game. It's probably just personal preference with the writer that put 6 above 7.

It's been said already, but I repeat: no Street Fighter is 100% pure ignorance. It's only the cornerstone of an entire genre. It's as bad as leaving out Mario, Doom, or Tetris.

Including Mortal Kombat instead is just trolling. May as well have included Sonic and not Mario. GG Time.

It's a shame though that the list lacks Puyo Tsu, which is a better game than Tetris.
But Tetris really is a timeless classic, you can play to this date and it's still as good as it was day one. it doesn't age. The closest to chess or go.

It's best TR game in more than 10 years, i honestly don't see what's wrong with it. Game deserves to be on the list, maybe not in TOP 20, but there really isn't anything wrong with game being on the list. I repeat it's best TR game in more than 10 years and this is deserved.

It's a shame so many of the seminal 80s-90s PC games are so often overlooked, games like Ultima Underworld, System Shock, Ultima IV, Wizardry, Dungeon Master, etc. The lack of accessibility really hurts there. It's easy to load up an NES emulator and play SMB 1, but less easy to configure Dosbox and deal with archaic PC interfaces.

Whoever wrote this list has a very strong bias towards PC and Nintendo games. Opinions, and all that, but things like no SotN, no Daytons USA, no Dance Dance Revolution, no Suikoden II, etc, is a glaring oversight. This list is inherently flawed because of this.
