Super Mario Run announced for iOS (Android later), Dec 2016, Screens/Info in OP

The mobile offers aren't aimed at anyone posting on GAF and that's the smartest thing about them. It's more like, "if you happen to enjoy them, that's great and more money for Nintendo."

My only question is do people still play runners? I mean, like, do A LOT of people play runners? While I personally never really got into them I feel like most people moved on from playing those kinds of games, but I could very well be wrong. I can appreciate that not everything Nintendo makes is going to be for its OG fanbase. I've made my piece with that years ago and I'm fine with that, but I just wonder if an endless runner is really going to move the needle for them. Anyways, isn't there a Sonic endless runner? THE RIVALRY RESUMES.

I wonder if this will have longer legs than Pokemon GO. GO was an original idea with a new userbase, this is an old idea with an established userbase.

Smart choice by them l, not anything I'm interested in admittedly, but smart.

Now they just need to prove it low enough to not kill it straight off the bat...

Nintendo just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about 2d Mario Culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is on mobile devices where you can become successful by releasing endless runners. If you screw someone over who loves 2d Mario game, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Nintendo fans, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase Mario for either system, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo has alienated an entire market with this move.

Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel Mario Runner or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I was wondering how long this would take.

Wasn't expecting this. Legitimately shocked when I opened my conference feed and saw Miyamoto/Mario on the stage.

Game looks pretty fun too. I'll bite.

I wonder if Nintendo will charge for this on iOS and Android but make it free for NX.

Can't wait for iOS 10.1 which breaks the game. NIntendo has to continually support iOS revisions or risk damaging their reputation on mobile! People will expect to play this in 3 years still

Honestly, with Mario Maker already here, what could they have done more for 2D Mario?
It's the best decision for now and will raise the IP's awareness just in time for the NX.

This is the most rote, boring idea ever. Guess they will make money though.

Nintendo is now the super talented musician who tries to sell their original CD but has to play bars and weddings doing Nickelback songs to pay the fucking bills.

I guess, if it makes money they might as well.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
IOS is prioritised because although the userbase is smaller its more willing to spend money and revenues are usually higher there.

They are prioritizing Apple because its easier to optimize the game for the couple iOS devices to have the game ready this holiday season. Well and the marketing push they will get from Apple because of the exclusivity,

Expect this game to dominate this Holiday on mobile/iOS.

That's my question. What's hot in mobile is always changing I think. While Mario will get this game attention are runners as a genre HOT right now or have they been recently?

Nintendo's getting big PR spots lately. Olympics may have been luck, but this isn't. Mario on Apple's 'primetime'.

That's the whole goal of Nintendo on mobile: Brand marketing.

Besides the obvious value in getting your brand out there in the most attractive spot:

The fact that these experiences, including Pokemon Go, are limited, is exactly the point. They remind you that you'd (rather?) play the real deal (on their hardware). And Pokemon sales prove it.

I guess people can get a taste of Mario gameplay with this one-button game, then they can graduate to the more advanced course:

*Gets so hyped for a Mario Endless runner*

*Sees its only on mobile. No way to play a actual Nintendo game on a Nintendo system*

Gotta love Nintendo not letting their most hardcore fans play games on their actual systems. I don't have any mobile device so I'll never be able to play a Mario game. Never thought I'd say that. :(

Looks great. Online multiplayer battles should ensure they make a truckload of money off of this for a while.

And lol at people asking for the full fledged experience. One of Nintendo's mobile strategy pillars is about creating brand awareness and making people want to buy their consoles with the full experience on them. They aren't going to release a full game like the ones you get on their consoles on mobile.

Rumors (and common sense) say that NX will get every Nintendo mobile game.

If Pokemon Go didn't convince Nintendo (even though they had so little to do with it) this surely will, even more so since this will actually impact them financially

Super excited but Sega burned me really bad with Sonic Runners. I thought it was a great game that Sega trashed towards the end then gave up. Put well over $100 in that game, but I did put over 100 hours into it. Oh well. Day one.

Rumours suggest NX will be compatible with Nintendos mobile games, but still, we have no divine right to play each and every game imo.

I bet this will be the best selling endless runner game of all time.

It's a smart move. There are third grade boys in my daughters class who don't know who Mario is, they just looked at her like she was crazy when she told them about Super Mario and Princess Peach.

This should really help with that young iOS audience.

Not to forget bout piracy on Android.

Thread moving fast, but I wonder if anyone has mentioned about how Super Mario Run could be a launch title on NX? Wasn't there that post that Nintendo would have their mobile games available on the NX?
