I'll be watching the Bloomberg stream with the Viceland twitterfeed on the side to see what the Bodega Boys have to say about everything.

lol

CNN just did a run through of how important first debates are.

1976: Carter vs Ford. Carter was winning before debate, Ford made it close after the debate, but he lost the election.

1992: Clinton vs. Bush vs. some guy. Clinton was winning before, and he was winning after. Sooo, how was the debate important?

2000: Al Gore Vs. Bush. Al Gore was winning before, and Bush was leading after the debate. We all know what happened at the end. So, you can say that the first debate made a difference, somewhat even if the result is still debated to this day

2012: Obama vs. Romney. Obama was winning before debate, Romney was leading after. Obama ended up winning pretty comfortably. Sooo, the first debate wasn't important in the end...

They didn't even bring up Nixon vs. Kennedy

It's sort of like hockey in October. You can't win the Stanley Cup in October, but you can sure lose it (i.e., get so far behind by putting up L's that you miss the playoffs). This is something we say a lot here in North Carolina because the Canes start like shit almost every year.

The point being that a gaffe here can turn things sour for either candidate.

Exhibit A: George H Bush checking his watch, as if he had somewhere more important to be. Hurt him pretty bad against Clinton.

Exhibit B: Gore constantly and loudly sighing every time Dubya said something that Gore then felt he needed to discredit. Again, hurt him pretty bad because he came off as easily frustrated and way too nerdy.

If Hillary gets a little too Gore-y tonight, where she feels like she needs to correct every stupid thing Trump says, or starts to look frustrated by him, it may actually hurt her worse than his antics will impact him. We all know he's a blowhard buffoon, even his supporters know he is. That's what they like about him, that he's not a conventional politician.

I feel like this whole debate can hurt Hillary far more than it can hurt Trump.
