Battlefield 1 PC Performance Thread

R9 280 3GB, FX-8320 3.5ghz and 8GB ram.
DX11, 1080p, SSAO and Medium settings (except Lighting and Effects at Low quality).

Getting mostly 60-80fps, Operations mode occasionally dips fps to 40-50.
No micro stuttering or crashing.
Works pretty well imo.

Is it worth to try DX12 if you are using older GPU and CPU? I'm reading mixed DX12 impressions here.

Getting pretty bad performance on my system in multiplayer:

Win 10
3570k 4.2Ghz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3
980 TI
HDD
DX11
1440p

Too lazy to go ingame so here's the rest:
KrcCjvf.png

It fequently dips into the low 40s and even the single digits occasionally. There's nothing open in the background. The fix posted above doesn't seem to last for me. My FPS counter goes away after a few minutes of play so I assume both settings are getting reset.

Not bragging, but might as well post my info if it's useful.

Running 1080p, maxed out settings, and 120% resolution scaling. 60fps locked, not a single frame dropped that I've detected (also recorded lots of shadowplay footage, which I'll get around to editing and uploading soonish). Been playing SP and 64-player conquest only (so not avoiding high impact situations)

1070 running at stock
i5-6600k at 4.3GHz
16GB of 3GHz DDR4 RAM
installed on SSD

Ok so after I turned on max performance it made it smoother but didn't fix the freezing. I turned off the Nvidia optimization thing in Game Experience and so far...no freezing. I might have jinxed myself but I went a full round without it. I think it's safe to stay it's Nvidia that's the problem here.

I would install MSI Afterburner and use a custom fan profile. Can monitor temps etc with it.

There is something seriously wrong with this game. In multiplayer, my frame rate is 80-100+ except for completely random occasions in which it PLUMMETS to what feels like ~10-15 for a few seconds before jumping right back up to 80-100+.

I played all the way through the campaign and didn't have these issues, so it seems to be multiplayer-related.

My specs are as follows:
  • i7-4770 CPU
  • GTX 970 (OC'd, latest drivers)
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Windows 10

I'm running at 1920x1080, High settings.

I had a very similar issue in the beta. At the time I was convinced it was some sort of memory leak, but now I'm not so sure.

I've also played a ton of other games recently--GTA V, Deus Ex, and Mafia 3 to name a few--and haven't had any such problems with those. I even play PlanetSide 2 from time to time, and that game doesn't give me any problems either.

Is anyone else suffering from this? I thought for sure everything would be ironed out after the beta, but I guess I was expecting too much. Sigh...

EDIT: SuperBanana and I might be having the same issue.

Here's a video I captured of my problem thanks to Shadowplay. Look for it at around the 6-second mark:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7A3xbWqeENc

You can also see my GPU, CPU, and RAM usage in the corner just for reference.

(Note: the footage might not be finished processing at the time of this post, but it should eventually be available at 1080p60.)

Have you tried running it in Fullscreen and is V-sync forced off ingame and from drivers ? Thats about the only things I can think of.

Anyone struggling with overly high CPU usage should really look at this reported fix.

https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/42847/high-cpu-usage-low-fps-potential-fix/

It's done wonders for many, especially on i5s.

Limit fps to your desired framerate + set pre-rendered frames to 1 or 2 in NVIDIA control panel and there seems to be an instant boost in performance.

Thanks! Seems there might be a patch in the works going off that thread.. Fingers crossed!

Titan X (Maxwell) SLI here. Performance doesn't drop below 60 with everything completely maxed out at 4K. SLI scaling is fantastic. Very impressive stuff!

On a side note, is there no timestop/freecam feature for the campaign for screenshots? Can't find any tools online either!

Are those noted to cause problems?

In BF1 ? No idea but some games don't perform that great if not in Fullscreen mode and as for V-sync, that can drop your framerates so to make sure its off and stays that way you should force it off in game and in drivers as sometimes it can still get enabled even if its set to "application controlled". Had it once with an older AMD card where my framerates were fluctuating wildly even though I thought V-sync was disabled but after I forced it off in the control panel too, the issues went away. Not saying it happens anymore these days but you never know.

I'll have to maybe mess with some of these fixes but I was playing a little today and had some strange performance issues. Generally the game will run at least 50+FPS on most maps but some like Monte Grappa feel really stuttery. That's playing with everything defaulting to Ultra at 1440p. Funny thing is, I can change all the settings to Medium or Low and that stuttery feeling is still there and the frame rate really doesn't change that much from when its on Ultra. Weird.

EDIT: SuperBanana and I might be having the same issue.

If you have the same issue as me try going into Nvidia control panel > Manage 3D settings > Program Settings and put the Power Management Mode for BF1's profile to Max Performance. Also, go into GeForce Experience and turn off Optimize on BF1 as well. Try that.

Thanks! I will def try this out after the update. I am hoping the update will do something about the high CPU usage.

I have similar specs with a stock 970 and a 2500k@4.5Ghz. My rig has 16GB ram though, and I don't have the problems you describe.

Seeing as ram is dirt cheap, I would add some more to your system.

My RAM isn't even being maxed out, though, as seen in the video I linked above. I really don't think it's a RAM-related issue.

Similar speccs(4670, 16gig ram) but haven't had the FPS drop below 60fps ever. Could be RAM-related or just driver trouble.

Auto-downloaded and installed the ~700MB update, but have not seen any patch notes as of yet.

Has Dice stated what has been addressed?

My 144hz monitor has made me a monster. When the game drops to the 60's I get pretty annoyed. It's the new 30!

Tell me about it.

Instead of trying to keep games over 60fps I'm now demanding over double that from my PC... I see an upgrade on the horizon!

What I've found so far is that the 100% CPU + frame drops issue is not occurring in the first match I play. Before I jumped into a CQ game on Amiens first up, a map that has given me most issues, and it performed fine without the CPU bottlenecking the GPU. Next game was Fao Fortress, and after about 5 mins there, the problems returned on a map without a gigantic amount of geometry.

I think you're on to something. I've not had it cause any problems, but my CPU usage seems to go up from about 50% during the first map to about 75-80% on subsequent maps. I log with HWInfo64 so the jump is always obvious.

With the new patch and 2 pre render frames, I get solid 60 FPS on my i5 2500k, but it still dips down to 40 and 30 when alot of shit explodes. I already tried lowering Effects, but it doesnt seem to help.

Should not be allowed to breed
for all the balance crap i give this game, the performance and stability side of things as been flawless.

290x + i7 2600k 4.8ghz 1440p >60fps ultra (in 10 hours of gameplay. No slowdowns.)

The only issue I had was the game alt-tabing on its own in the last hour I played, with windows unplugged/plugged sound.

My RAM isn't even being maxed out, though, as seen in the video I linked above. I really don't think it's a RAM-related issue.

That's because it takes as much as is available to it. If there's more memory open, it will use more. In my game, for example, just being in the menus it sits at 6.8 gigs and during gameplay it goes up to around 8 normally.

I'm running the game at pretty stable 60 with ultra settings at 1080p and 120% resolution scaling. I'm not saying it's a matter of RAM for certain, but it's a possibility. In any case, I've never experienced any significant dips apart from like 6 frames less when something explodes in my face.

I use the FPS counter in ShadowPlay. The console command line code kept going away as well for me.

I'm not sure if I should get this on my PS4 or desktop. What do y'all think? What graphics level would I be able to run this game on?

-AMD 8350 CPU
-770 4gb GPU
-16gb RAM

While I do have a really powerful rig I must say I'm impressed.
At 1527p with everything on Ultra I get 70-80fps during heavy 64 player matches.
GTX 1070, 16GB DDR4, 6700K at stock, Win 10. Not running the latest video drivers.

No fix for not being able to shoot when revived or not being able to move while in a turret or tank? Those are the most fucking annoying bugs ever.

So with the whole 'not being able to shoot when revived', when playing Scout I can switch weapons, zoom and shoot, then switch back to scope and it's fixed for me.

Dunno if that fixes it for anyone else but its worked consistently for me.

Interesting that this game and Titanfall 2 require 16 GB of RAM for recommended settings. I guess 8GB is not the sweet spot for gaming anymore?

I just ordered 32GB of RAM off of Amazon, yay for futureproofing. Though it was DDR3, not DDR4. >_<
Oh well, hopefully this 4670k will last me a few more years. Just OC'd it to 4.4 GHz last night.

Hopefully this RAM upgrade and last night's OC will smooth out my performance on Ultra on the Operations maps!

I have capped my fps to 59 so it doesn't go over my monitors refresh rate and have disabled Vsync, but I'm getting bad screen tearing even though my monitor is Gsync.

Anyone know what is happening here?

For the latter you have to ALT+Tab out and back again. Then it works. Seems to have something to do with the Origin overlay, too.
