Skyrim: Special Edition - Mods Thread: Thomas the Tank Engine Strikes Back

I've now come to terms with the fact I've apparently actually never played Skyrim without the Macho Man mod installed. Never realized that until I started Special Edition and went "...Huh, those sounds are new aren't they? Did dragons always sound like that?" It's so bizarre actually hearing the dragons as they are meant to be heard...hope that mod gets ported haha.

Don't know if it's been posted, but this looks like a possible good alternative to vivid weathers.
Weather and lighting overhaul
https://mods.bethesda.net/#en/workshop/skyrim/mod-detail/3021736

Vivid Weathers was actually based on Climates of Tamriel, IIRC. They're both good mods. I don't know which is the better of the two, though.

In other news, it looks like the JK series is starting to appear for Special Edition - Riverwood and Whiterun are available on the Nexus.

This is a general Skyrim mod question (not just SE) that maybe someone here can help me with. Back when I was playing Skyrim last, I must have had a mod that displayed the rank (adept, expert, etc) of a spellbook right on the screen that shows the 3d book and information, but I can't figure out what that was now. Any ideas? I looked at some sorting mods, and that doesn't seem to be it. I know you can estimate it when sorting books by cost, but eh.

Might've been Skilled Spellbooks.

Yup, vanilla weathers look gorgeous in the SE.

I think I can deal with them like they are for a lil bit.

Are there character mods that don't make them look like models and CW actors?

Waiting patiently on Windsong.

He's dealing with some broken meshes atm but said the patch should be up by the end of the day I think.

Looks like Isoku just updated the Realistic Water Two mod, about an hour ago, to address some issues.

https://mods.bethesda.net/#en/workshop/skyrim/mod-detail/3017538

Gonna give it a shot now I think.

Checking it out now. Thanks!

How do I install this? The Nexus Mod website doesn't give instructions other than "NMM, or MO." I assume NMM is Nexux Mod Manager, but I don't want to deal with having a 3rd party mod program for maintaining other mods (I mostly would prefer the official built-in mod manager). I also want to be able to have the ability to disable it later on.
I felt the same way as you when I started bro. Trust me, you would be doing yourself a favor by learning how to use NMM. It isn't just a third party mod manager lol, it's pretty much the defacto mod manager for Skyrim. The Nexus is where the vast majority of modders put their mods and some of them are so proud of the nexus and it's community and the support it has given them that they sometimes will only put their mods up on it and not let anyone put them anywhere else like the in game one I think. At least this is what I have gleaned from what little time I've been using it. I hope it's not viruses or something you are worried about.

Realistic Water Two working fine on xb1. No issues at all thus far. Looks gorgeous. Amazing at night when the northern lights are out.

So I have Skyrim on PC and played it for a ton of hours and the mods I liked were the real basic ones. I had some fixes for busted textures, a mod the allowed arrow crafting, one that made the quest horses like Shadowmere unkillable. Little things like that for the most part.

I snagged this for PS4 mostly to try it out on a console and see how it feels as a couch game. My question is, despite the mod stuff being bare bones on PS4, are mods like the later two I mentioned doable/available on PS4? I don't need anything crazy, just QOL type stuff.

Craftable Arrow's and Unkillable Shadowmere should be possible, since they'd only be modifying existing values and adding context options within the game.

Another issue is whether mod authors want to commit to putting limited mods on PS4, and whilst it is getting a reasonably healthy amount of support, I'm sure authors are much less enthusiastic about it than Xbox One and with Special Edition on PC requiring slight reworking on mods, I doubt PS4 would be a priority.

Nah. It's just that there's going to be too much cruft to manage once I have NMM installed. The manager itself will need constant updating, and then there's the whole issue once you want to transfer over to a new computer, reinstalling, etc.

I've worked with mods before (Freespace 2 Open and enhancements), and just found it too tedious constantly checking for nightly updates and whatnot. So micro-managing all the games along with their perspective mods can be far too time intensive.

I hope Sony gets a bit more open with mods down the road and also make it like 5gb and remove that dumb assets from game only restriction.

Finally a chance to have some cool mods on consoles and Sony is like nah.....

Planning to switch over to the equivalent hosted on Nexus for the unofficial patch and Even Better Quest Objectives from Bethesda-hosted ones (as a "hey, I wonder how the in-game mod menu works?")

Would the game think I'm loading a different plugin when I'm loading a save that wants them?

If Sony's going to do it they need to strike while the iron's hot. Who knows how many mod authors might not even bother going back to add ps4 support potentially months and months down the line if Sony were to finally open the gates.

Sorry to answer you late! Yeah, I pretty much flopped into bed right after that post lol.

Yup, both of them are compatable as the grass one that I posted only affects grass. He even says they are compatible somewhere on the mod page.

I didn't see the flora overhaul before I went to bed! Checking it out now!

No worries. Yeah, I've been using them both and it's fantastic, but..

The grass mod is a frame rate killer.

Indeed. With Verdant and Flora overhaul installed, I really have to settle with 30fps cap.

I can't say I like this at all. Area around Whiterun looked like total shit after this. It was too clean, lacked the fog and atmospheric effects that masked some of the lower level LOD stuff.

Totally agree. It seems that Vivid Weather has the same issue.

Vanilla SE weathers > any weather mods so far

You really want to install NMM. Yes it's a 3rd party program, but it'll make your life much easier.

Imagine this. If you're installing textures mods manually, you'll have to extract and place the files and folder in your skyrim folder. The problem rises when you have several texture mods manually installed. First, you have to choose which mods get the priority to overwrite other texture mods. Second, you have to choose which folders and files to delete when you want to uninstall the mods. Which means searching through dozens of folders inside your skyrim folder. With NMM, all of that hassle can be done with one or two clicks.

As stated above, it's WICO.

Does it work in conjunction with Bethesda Workshop mods? I already have some mods installed from the built-in mod downloader, but I don't want them to conflict (I have them disabled for the moment, but they have already been installed).

Yes, it does. Your Bethesda Workshop installed mods' .esp will be visible in NMM. You can enable/disable Bethesda mods from there.

For console (Xbox) are there any Game of Thrones immersion type mods? Like clothing, armor, weapons, etc?

Armor and clothing has been trickling out the past couple days but nothing too substantial for consoles yet. Give it a week or so and we'll have a lot more to choose from.

I do recommend the Black Mage robes though. They look cool as shit.

Also Triss and Yennifer (Witcher 3) clothing is up.

Trust me mate, for the first couple of days I thought the same as you, that I would only stick with the besthesda mods, but it's clear that Nexus is the clear preference for modders. I switched over, it's really easy, easy to sort, heaps more mods, picks up existing installed mods too. Make tge switch now.

Keep an eye out for Winter is Coming. It's not available for SE yet, but it was an immensely popular mod that I'm sure will get ported eventually. As the title suggests, it adds many Game of Thrones inspired cloaks.

You're really trying hard to sell me on this.

Are there any good displacement mods out there?

So if anyone else here hates the vanilla fences, and the SMIM fences, I recommend this heavily.

Fences of Skyrim

To me, this is THE fence mod to use. I'm more happy than I probably should be that it works without issue in SSE.

I think Achievements should still pop up for Skrim/FO4 MODS, just don't give them any points, same achievements pop up, friends can see you got them, but for zero points., doesn't add to your gamerscore.

Man there are some more awesome mods out there I can't wait to be ported over, the Dwemer Power Armor being one of them. I always thought the Dwemer could create exoskeleton suits and there it is!

Also, I'm eagerly awaiting more weapon mods. I love new weapons and stuff, and there's a lore-friendly beam saber mod out there.

Are there any lighting mods that do not use reshade? Are there any mods that can also enhance the parallax/displacement mapping, especially on rocks??

Fuckin Daggerfall skeleton FX mod is terrifying. The noises those things make.

Also the Static Mesh improvement is out for xb1, 900mb. The mod author isn't sure about performance on console though. Gonna wait and see on that one.

Was waiting for true storms. The creator has been on reddit past few days posting previews. Seems like he has spent some time tweaking it for this edition. His weather system accounts for the snow n rain not falling through roofs etc too now like the original skyrim had.

He said he has pretty much rebuilt the whole thing.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE!

I ran into a couple of snags. First and foremost, I re-made every visual effect to attain the highest performance. SE runs so good that having any FPS dips just felt atrocious, so now even with the fog effects there is zero performance impact that I can measure. YMMV but it should hold up well on any system.

ENJOY and thank you for all the support.

EDIT: The #1 question I am getting across all platforms is about god rays... I'm out of the loop as to why that is, but yes! This mod carries over all of the new colors/effects/godrays/etc. from Skyrim SE. Bethesda re-made all of the weathers for SE, and they're beautiful, and all of that data was carried over. I essentially made this over from scratch for that reason
.

Part of the reason why this was delayed was because I realized a lot had changed in Skyrim SE, and that Bethesda re-made all of the weathers (all of the colors, everything is completely different and gorgeous IMO) so I decided to re-build TS to account for all of that. I was "late" and came in like 4th place to all the other weather ports, but that's OK :

Explains why climates etc are all messed right now. They rushed them out and didn't account for Beth's new systems

Nice. I just got done reinstalling SMIM & not selecting the woven fence meshes this time around, because I couldn't stand the flickering. With this mod, there are no flickering from a distance & the fences are better looking to me as well.

Very tempted to jump on True Storms. Been waiting for something to tweak the weather a little bit, it's all my game is missing right now (I think).

The Fallout 4 version is very cool, but I ended up going with NAC (Natural Atmospheric Commonwealth) there. It's more of a complete overhaul though and I'm not sure Skyrim needs that, some more extreme storms and blizzards might just do the trick.

Ordinator perks overhaul is pretty fun. I always have a perk I'm looking forward too, and a lot of them are pretty cool. In vanilla you exaust the perks pretty quickly and they mostly only increase your damage output while in Ordinator they can change the way you play.
