CONFIRMED: COD:IW & MWR - no crossplay support between Win10 Store and rest of PC

the fact that activision is willing to fragment their player base for a deal with microsoft is significantly worse than microsoft wanting a game in their store

people got a lot of misplaced anger here tbh

Exactly. Given the treamtment this port is getting, its more likely Microsoft didn't pay to have it on there. So Activision was like "Fuck it, we won't spend a cent either, have fun".

Activision had no reason or incentive for a W10 version in the first place and had any plans to work the crossplay themselves. MS paid to have CoD listed on their store.

Benny_a the real MVP.
Smart move, you get Xbox Live achievements which are worth so much more than Steam achievements, and you get the security and peace of mind that Xbox Live provides that nobody will be cheating and you won't be getting keylogged using Chrome.
Also, because its on the PC you can be sure you're getting the best quality pixels.

Okay I was seriously wrong...all I can ask is why? Why bother if no crossplay? Why was this not announced before....why bother at all?

EDIT: Well i guess its time

Exactly. No one can cheat if no one is playing. Brilliant move.

That would imply that there's a relevant part of their audience who's going to buy the game on the W10 store.

We all know that's not going to happen.

? Of course MS paid for it to be on the store. Activision isn't going to rework the game to a UWP and rework the network connectivity to XBL instead out of the blue randomly on their own volition. For a couple dozen units sold at best.

I'd say it's literally impossible that MS did not pay for this.

The majority of their player base won't give a shit. I'm sure there will be like 10 angry people though, poor them.

I think it's because this game calls into question Microsoft's entire PC gaming initiative. Not only does the game not play on Xbox via Play Anywhere, but it also doesn't play nice with the other PC version of the game. This stuff should be built in to the core of their Xbox Play Anywhere push. As it is, everyone is left wondering why they are even bothering here.

Sure it does damage to Activision short term but, long term, this just lets PC gamers know to avoid anything Windows 10 Store related and another instance of MS not getting it.

I feel bad in the future for people who go. "Oh COD IW legacy for 50$ On Windows Store? Sweet! Been wanting to play COD:R multiplayer."

They are going to log onto multiplayer with no one there.

Lol this is a terrible idea, wow I don't even...

The history of gaming on the windows 10 store can literally be told through a series of disasters.

The horrific truth, I can only hope for the best of the Windows 10 store in the future, maybe they'll make a new platform that is compatible with it or something?

You got really upset at this news.
You attacked the OP.

When someone posts news about something that sounds too ridiculous to be true about the Win 10 store or UWP, give them the benefit of the doubt. Historically, that news has a decent chance of being true.

My bad seriously...seemed too stupid to be at all possible...definitely seems like Microsoft wanted it...but why no crossplay?

Well, I give you credit for admitting it and not trying to defend this shit. Seriously, that people try to defend this is even more unbelievable than the clusterfuck itself.

why would the game run on play anywhere? activision would be losing money. that's clearly only been for first party games

microsoft are not developing and publishing this game, that falls on activision. microsoft having a place on their store for call of duty is one thing, but to assign missing features to them is ridiculous. if no crossplay is something microsoft mandated (i can't see why it would be because they'd have to know it would cripple their sales, but let's say they did) then that's a stipulation activision willingly accepted at the cost of their player base

LMFAO. i really cant believe this to be true. how do you expect the game or store to even sell or survive in these conditions? jesus, wtf.

bish gets all the credit :)
Will probably have less people playing than the Wii COD games have today (assuming they're still up).

I'm sure the Win10 community will be a very tight 20 man group, they will probably end up becoming life long friends and end up enjoying the game much more than the Steam community with their game full of randoms. Another win for the Win10 Store.

In my experience, the smaller the COD player base is, the better the community is. UWP best version confirmed

EDIT: goddamn that's strange timing

It's getting better one step at a time.
First big third party mega hit franchise available at Windows store, that's crazy improvement. It will be steam greatest competitor in no time.
Next up, RDR2 Windows store exclusive.

It's on them. Microsoft didn't "have a place" for Call of Duty. They paid for it to be released on their store at all. It's contract work, and MS got exactly what they asked for. If they are sincere about their PC push, it's entirely on them to invest on it and adquire cross play. That they don't just confirms once again they do not give a shit.

Bear in mind that even if there are no MS UWA related certification requirements regarding interoperability with XBL and Steam (which there almost certainly are), there would have been practical implementation issues anyway, as all W10 appstore games have to go through MS cert.

Which means any patches or bugfixes would automatically create version differences that put UWA owners in their own tiny pool until a bugfix went through cert anyway.

I can't tell if trolling or not.

I'm gonna go with trolling.

I'm sure the Win10 community will be a very tight 20 man group of like minded individuals who were dumb enough to buy it, they will probably end up becoming life long friends and end up enjoying the game much more than the Steam community with their game full of randoms. Felt it needed to be added

But then why put it there at all?

Not to make money that's for sure.

Seems that goes both ways. I know Microsoft can do dumb shit, but to pay for a game to be on a store that no one will buy AND no one will be able to play online? That's next level dumb. Too dumb to believe.

MS does no wrong in his eyes.

Oh bullshit. Fuck off with that crap.

lol! Yeah right, Activision just like that decided by themselves to publish on W10 store.

But the alternative seems even dumber.

I feel sorry for the dozens of people who buy the game on Windows 10.

Who spends boatloads of $ to land a title that only 15 people will purchase, mostly by accident

Like, even if this sells only 5 copies, I am curious who those 5 persons are, because.... Why?

Sure is going to suck for the 3 people who will get it from the Win 10 store.

Will probably have less people playing than the Wii COD games have today (assuming they're still up).

How low can you go?

Play Anywhere is just another checkmark for their bullet point wars. Theyve never had any real commitment to PC gaming, and it remains rather unlikely from the looks of things that they ever will

MS wants the name in their store. Maybe they care about how healthy the multiplayer will be or how much it will sell, maybe they don't. What we know is they are willing to take a dead multiplayer in order to have the name in the store. That's the focus here. That shows you MS either doesn't care or isn't powerful or flexible enough to make this happen. TLDR: Win10 Store is a joke.

All MS wants out of this is to say that they another third party AAA game on their store. Nothing else matters to them.

Is that how it works with Rocket League?

That just seems so dumb. Beyond dumb. This scenario hurts the store more than it helps it. I can see some people are thinking I'm defending the Windows Store here, but I'm not.

I'm trying to find a logical explanation for some that seems to defy logic. There's a difference.

MS has something to gain from this, a big name game on their store. Activision has nothing to gain whatsoever from this.

It's way more logical than Activision wasting their money and resources for something nobody will buy.

I was one of many who raised concerns with this months ago, about Microsoft essentially forcing the creation of 2 SKUs on the PC platform via UWP/Win10 Store, and the problems PC developers would have if they were going to attempt crossplay via Win32/UWP but were subject to Microsoft's certification process as opposed to Steam/GOG etc's more open update policy.

Nice to be vindicated with a major AAA title from a 3rd party publisher after these exact concerns were handwaved away by the usual suspects.

Cross play would expose Windows store community to cheater. Gotta protect value customers.

I don't even know why anyone would doubt it, the Windows 10 store has been the biggest disaster imaginable. It's like MS are trying their hardest to make it terrible so next year they can pull out and be like "welp look PC gamers we tried our best at PC gaming and you rejected us! Buy an Xbox Scorpio if you want to be able to play Forza Horizon 3 at 60fps!"
